Hi everyone!
I’m planning to apply for the MSc in Computational Neuroscience at Technische Universität Berlin (TU Berlin) for the Winter Semester 2027, and I would really appreciate advice from current students, alumni, or anyone familiar with the admission process.
A little about my academic background:
- BSc in Chemistry (2020)
- MSc in Organic Chemistry (2022)
- 12 months of full-time Research Scientist experience
- Currently interested in transitioning into computational neuroscience and building my technical skills.
I’m particularly interested in understanding how the brain works and would love to pursue this field, but I come from a Chemistry background and need to strengthen my mathematics and programming knowledge.
I have a few questions:
Admission process: What is the complete application process for international students applying from India?
Entrance exam: Is there an entrance examination, written test, or interview as part of the selection process?
Mathematics prerequisites: How strictly are the mathematics credit requirements enforced? What should I do if my previous degree does not include sufficient mathematics credits?
Preparation: Which topics should I study first? Should I focus on linear algebra, calculus, probability and statistics, Python programming, or neuroscience?
Study resources: Could you recommend textbooks, online courses, YouTube playlists, or other resources for beginners?
Chemistry background: Has anyone with a Chemistry degree been admitted to this programme? If so, how did you meet the prerequisites and strengthen your application?
Application profile: How important are grades, research experience, recommendation letters, and the motivation letter?
Application timeline: When should I start preparing for the Winter Semester 2027 intake, and are there any important deadlines I should know about?
I’m serious about preparing for this transition and willing to put in the work. Any honest advice, personal experiences, or guidance would mean a lot to me.
Thank you so much! 🙏
