Hi everyone,
We’ve had our little tortoiseshell girl for just over a month, and I’m already completely smitten. I lost my dog last year, and I think that’s made me extra anxious about getting everything right with her.
She’s around 15–17 weeks old and weighs 2.1 kg (4.6 lbs). Our vet says she’s doing great and is a perfect size. She’s recently had a growth spurt, including gaining 300g in one week. Her appetite, poos and wees all seem normal.

She has IAMS Advanced Nutrition dry food available to graze on, plus four Whiskas wet pouches spread throughout the day. She’s also due to be spayed and microchipped in the next few weeks.

She’s affectionate on her own terms: lots of slow blinks, nose bumps, licking my hands and sleeping flat on her back beside me or on my gaming chair. Her favourite activities currently include 4am zoomies, walking across our faces to sniff us and trying to lick my PS5 controller buttons 😂

Does her size and general appearance look about right for her age in these photos? I’d also really appreciate any first-kitten tips, especially what helped you learn what’s normal and feel more confident as an owner.
I just want to give her the best life I can. Thanks!

Deli was SO timid when we rescued her 1.5 years ago! She is now 6 years old.

Roughly we had…

First 6 months - would tolerate being in same room, but not a huge fan of you looking at her. Spent daytime under bed and evenings roaming the house
6-12 months - happy to hang out in same room and sniff hand if offered. Kept good distance
12-15 months - first breakthrough! Would bump up against hand if offered and accept limited pets to head - no chin or back
16-17months - a lot more trust- asking for more pets and liking strokes around back chin and head
18 months (last couple of weeks) -meowing to demand pets and cuddles, jumping up onto sofa to hang out, flopping and climbing on us for cuddles. Hanging out during the day in same room. Following to the toilet 😂

Got her a laser pen a few months ago and was fun for keeping her active but shes like insanely addicted to it - once i get home she enters play mode and escalates her pestering of me from polite throat ‘ahems’ to full scale taps and clambers up my back when im at my desk .. this doesnt bother me tooo much but i feel like shes addicted.. what do u guys recommend ? I tried to play with her other toys yesterday but it wasnt enough … and the general advice on ending the laser on a toy or treat is way below her , we have very intelligent torti on our hands

Every autumn and winter my mom hand makes her grandbabies a blanket….. including her grandkittens. 😂

So today was a complete show of tortitude, or maybe just Mei's personality showing more. She will be 4 months in less than a week and she's showing some interesting behaviours. I woke up with a noise of something breaking, two plant vases on the floor, Meimei was spooked with a raccoon tail but after a couple seconds started rolling in the dirt while I was trying to get her off and clean up. While cleaning she was trying to roll around and even bit the broom a few times. I took her out of the room for a bit to vacuum the remaining dirt, she got PISSED. When I opened the door, she saw my older cat Yumi and got raccoon tail again, then she started charging with airplane ears, making tiny kitten angry noises, she tried to start a "fight" with Yumi but she whooped her disrespectful kitten ass and ran away. I then fed them some wet food and tried to play with Meimei so she can spend some energy. Appearently I didn't have a choice on when to stop, after 10 minutes I went to get a coffee and as soon as I put down the wand she jumped my leg with airplane ears and tried to bite me without biting (kinda like a smooch, she does that a lot) then ran away in circles (with airplane ears at all times) and jumped on Yumi again. I think it's been like an hour I'm trying to calm this beast down by playing with her and she JUST got tired and is taking a nap. She is the princess of tortitude 😭

She's a member of a semi feral colony that's cared for by the shopkeepers at a local shopping center. I've seen and interacted with this group plenty before but I never saw her before! My sister used to work in this area and says she's seen her around plenty.

This is my boy Baby Bird!! I adopted him last week!! I at least think he’s a tortie, this is my first cat i hardly know any of the cat lingo😅😅.I love him so much!! he’s about 18 weeks old I was wondering if he is kind of small for his age? The last photo is for scale him next go my laptop. I saw somewhere that male torties can be kind of small, and I’m really hoping this doesn’t open him up to any health issues…. I’m a broke college student lol… I actually didn’t know he was a boy till the moment I was filling out the paper work to adopt him, they put the wrong sex on his card! But I don’t care either way he’s such a sweetie and I’m lucky to have him!!🩷🩷🩷

this specimen might look like a beautiful and cute little angle but under her moe façade lies a Devilish Spirit that loves to gnaw on every device in my home...... especially (but not limited) to my phone/pc charger and the corners of screens??? id be doomscrolling on my phone and there she comes and bites on the edges of my phone screen for no apparent reason, when im watching youtube on my tablet she does the same and also bites my case and pencil (esp when im drаwing which is annoying), and when im doing uni work on my pc SHE DOES THE SAME!!! no flat screen is safe from her and she bites down pretty hard so im kinda worried about her denting the screen or WORSE because im not in the financial state to repair nor replace any of the aforementioned things. why would she do this??? is this behavior common?? ive never heard of cats chewing on screens (chargers yes) so i dont really know what it could mean. could she be bored? i spend a lot of time with her and play with her every day too but shes incredibly energetic so maybe its not enough? should i invest in a chewing toy? do you guys have any recommendations because i dont want to spend on something that shes just gonna ignore like half of the toys ive gotten her.....

Hi! I recently adopted a beautiful kitten who I believed to be a Calico (first image), but once I brought her home, I realized her colors are less patchy and more mottled, like a Tortie, so I did some digging and discovered that Tuxedo Tortie’s are a thing. This, along with my regular Tortie and Dulite Torbie, complete my accidental Tortie Clan. Say hello to Olive, Ophelia, and Millie!

I promise there’s a tortie a few seconds into the vid lol. Ue the foster kitten doesn’t understand the big cats’ water bowl. I tell Skooma (resident cat/tortie) to show her and drink and I might be crazy but it looks like she understands TWICE in a row lmao.

Maybe some more helpful context: Skooma uses talking buttons since she was a few weeks old and uses them very accurately.
