Currently trying to find it's exact location, but by all context clues, it's likely to be near Alberta Canda.

On May 22, 1981 Dr. Erik Rasmussen of the NSSL 'Sound Chase' project filmed a series of highly photogenic tornadoes from Alfalfa to Cordell, Oklahoma. One of these is the famous Cordell tornado whose funnel bent in such a rare way that resembled the one that swept Dorothy and Toto away in the classic Hollywood film. These films contain some of the most memorable imagery from the early 1980's, used in numerous educational films, television broadcasts and documentaries for years afterward about tornadoes.

I’ve been traveling down I-69 to Bloomington for IU football games this fall and have taken several photos of the extensive tree damage left behind by the June 17, 2026 EF3 tornado that tore through Morgan-Monroe State Forest.

The tornado had estimated peak winds of 140 mph, traveled 18.49 miles, and reached a maximum width of 880 yards.

According to the Indiana DNR, the tornado affected approximately 2,008 acres of Morgan-Monroe State Forest, including an 852-acre core damage area. Significant damage occurred across seven forest compartments, with countless trees snapped or uprooted along an approximately eight-mile stretch through the forest.

The National Weather Service also documented widespread hardwood tree damage and debarking near and east of I-69, which helped support the tornado’s EF3 rating. Survey crews initially encountered so many fallen trees that they couldn’t continue farther into the forest, ultimately relying on satellite analysis to help trace the damage farther east.

Nearly four months later, the destruction is still remarkable to see in person. Entire hillsides remain covered in snapped trunks, fallen timber, and heavily damaged trees.

One thing that really puts the extent of this tornado’s destruction into perspective is how drastically it changed the landscape along I-69. Before the tornado, the forest was so dense that you couldn’t see the opposite side of the interstate or vehicles traveling in the other direction. The trees completely blocked the view.

Now, after the tornado tore through the area, you can clearly see across the interstate to the opposite lanes. It’s incredible how much forest was destroyed.

In the comparison photos, you can see just how dense the tree coverage was before the tornado crossed I-69. In picture #10, the red circle in the upper-right corner marks where the tornado came through, while the other red circle in picture #11 highlights a vehicle traveling on the opposite side of the interstate that is now visible through the damaged forest.

That really puts into perspective just how much vegetation and tree coverage was wiped out. An area that was once completely obstructed by dense forest now has a clear line of sight across the interstate.

All photos were taken by me during recent trips to Bloomington this fall. Absolutely insane to see the lasting impact of an EF3 tornado on an entire forest nearly four months later.

Does anyone else have pictures they have taken from this damage? Does anyone have pictures of the actual tornado? I have only seen like one picture. This tornado occurred in the evening-night hours.

This footage was taken just before a tornado touched down 6 miles north of Canyon, Texas on September 29th, 2026. This was the second one in the Panhandle, the first touching down 2 hours prior in Claude, Texas.

i just like making tornadoes and interceptors in blender. i decided to make a wedge today.

I love digging up these more obscure stories about tornado events, 19th century ones like this and Natchez are some of my favorites to research. Anyone know any interesting 19th century tornadoes that deserve more attention? I'd love to read about more.

i made an interceptor in blender based off the tiv 2 and was wondering if there was something i should add/change(besides the fact that the inside isnt finished yet)

Sadly I couldn't find any news source in English but only in Thai. No injuries reported but local farms and vegetation were damaged.

Fun Fact: The most photogenic and documented tornado of the family reached wind gusts up to 201 M.P.H on DOW for a brief moment.
