Saw someone accidentally use the new emergency drive away feature

Was charging around 6 AM this past Sunday in Austin before heading to the F1 race and heard a pop. Looked over and saw the new emergency drive away feature in action. Genuinely felt bad for the dude when he got out and realized what happened since he looked exhausted and only seemed to half read the prompts.

Maybe Tesla should add some better soft gates like the whole screen flashing red and a loud emergency sound (similar to when you get the "take over immediately" message in FSD/AP) to snap people out of mindlessly clicking through the prompts, but still allow someone in an actual emergency to quickly be able to use it.

Happened in a Starbucks parking lot. It was a teenage driver in a Porsche Macan. Just took delivery of my MY on 9/21 too 😞. I could tell they were panicking on the inside, but assured them everything was fine and things happen. Pics of damage: https://imgur.com/a/9AH8iEh

Goodbye AI4, Hello SI4: Tesla Renames Its FSD Computers

It looks like a precursor to Tesla officially renaming the computers in its vehicles. Under the new naming scheme, HW2.0, HW2.5, HW3, and AI4 would become SI2.0, SI2.5, SI3, and SI4.

FSD saves pedestrian (or me)

As title says, was on UCI campus on a dark rainy day and bam. Girl just runs crossing a non crosswalk area. I was fully aware and didn’t see the girl crossing and FSD did a great job stopping right away. This is my first month of owning a Tesla as well.

This is an amazing representation of what and how FSD can handle these situations!

5 months parked 77% battery

I am in CHINA with a Tesla MY and traveled for five months, charged the car to 90% before I left, turned off all the Sentry and other stuff, filled the tires to the recommended psi, covered it up and flew away.

I did not log into the Tesla app once while I was gone, so I really didn’t know what I was gonna be met with when I came back home.

I logged into the app upon arrival and saw that it had 78% - thinking this has got to be a joke. I dismissed it as an anomaly or problem with the app. I knew I probably had to call service out to get a charge later, I arrived home, removed the cover, opened the door and was met with 77%. The tires do need to be inflated only about four psi, but I couldn’t believe it. 77% after five months - makes me feel easy travel again.

Review: larger tires on Y performance

Post image
8 Upvotes

I love the 21’ wheels on Y performance, but hated how the stock tires are like rubber bands. My stock tires lasted about 36k miles before the infamous inner camber wear showed up on the rear.

This time, I decided to go 265/40/21 on front and 295/40/21 on rear, with continental extreme contact dsw06+. Damn these tires are huge! I love the look and ride quality! Still can feel every little thing on the road, but honestly I feel so much more comfortable with these larger tires. So far seeing a 20% higher Wh/miles consumption hit. That’s the only crappy part.

Hit and Run; Las Vegas, NV Rainbow Area

You have sensors, mirrors, and cameras everywhere… HOW IN THE WORLD DO YOU STILL MANAGE TO HIT A CAR??

And instead of taking accountability, you decided to make yourself look even worse by driving off. So, congratulations! Now your license plate is getting exposed.

4 people witnessed you hit my car and drive away. Las Vegas people, this happened around the Rainbow area, in the parking lot where Jollibee and Smith’s are located.

To the driver of that Tesla, don’t think for a second that I’m letting this slide.

Yearly FSD Subscription

They should add a yearly FSD subscription for $999. They already have it for premium connectivity, why not FSD.

Monthly subs suck, yearly makes it a little better because you usually save money. I’d keep it if it was an option

[Update] M3 battery failed. I paid Tesla $8,500 for a replacement battery. It is 76% degraded.

Comrades,

This is an update to my previous post: https://www.reddit.com/r/TeslaLounge/s/96rXOJZOmE

Background: My 2021 Model 3 SR+ battery failed for the second time at ~115k miles, out of warranty. The pack that failed was itself a warranty replacement that lasted a little over a year. This time I paid out of pocket: $8,500 for a remanufactured pack from Tesla.

Update: At 100% charge, the replacement shows 201 miles. EPA rating for this car is 263, so that's about 76% of new. That's the on-screen number, not a Battery Health test result. I'll run the test once I have the car back.

I raised it with service. Their answer: the replacement is "comparable" to my old pack, based on a reading of the old pack from a few weeks before it failed. I get that as a benchmark for a free warranty swap. It makes no sense for a pack I'm paying full price for and nobody mentioned it before I approved the repair. This battery is %6 away from being considered failed by Tesla's own standards.

They've been unresponsive in the app. Then I got a call today saying return the loaner or it's $100/day.

I've put the dispute in writing and asked for three things: the measured state of health of the pack they installed and the capacity standard a paid reman pack is sold to meet; the old-pack reading they compared it to and its date; and whether the warranty on the paid pack has a capacity floor. If so, 70% of what (new capacity, or the capacity it had the day they installed it?).

Still waiting.

If you're paying for a replacement pack, get those answers in writing before you approve the repair.

Asks:
1) if you've had a remanufactured pack installed, specially if you paid for it out of pocket, what did it show at 100% (or on the Battery Health test) right after delivery? Trying to figure out what Tesla's actual standard is.
2) Did your 100% range estimate changed after some driving and charge cycles? Do you think I should get the car and give it some time to adjust?

Error from my car when it failed :-(

2017 75 S fusc, battery dilemna

Lucked out and bought a 2017 S "unicorn" car back in early 2017, with free unlimited sc, fsd, no interior camera, no subscription for connectivity, etc... I had no idea it would turn into such a ridiculously cheap and reliable car to operate, 10 years later. I did the MCU upgrade years ago and I just got the 14lite release recently which is pretty decent. My only struggle: 75kw battery can barely sustain a 200 mile range, more like 150 "real world" range. I'm at the SC almost 4 times a week charging it to 95-100%. 170k miles later, it's still rock solid... of course typical Model S issues with door handles and the charging port latch, but overall it's been incredible, it's still on original brake rotors (pads changed once). Literally zero cost to operate....I don't think I can ever part ways with it even when it turns 20 years old. Will perhaps consider a 90kw battery upgrade down the line, but to be honest the 75 has been rock solid even from years of abusive supercharging.

Was this the only way to charge. What about that sideways one that would be directly in front of the charge port if parked there.

22,920 km averaging 110 Wh/km. Tesla Model 3 Highland RWD. Mostly manual driving, at posted speed limits, with normal overtaking and some highway driving. No deliberate hypermiling, just anticipating traffic and avoiding unnecessary braking.
