Yearly FSD Subscription
They should add a yearly FSD subscription for $999. They already have it for premium connectivity, why not FSD.
Monthly subs suck, yearly makes it a little better because you usually save money. I’d keep it if it was an option

I had rather have a lifetime option. Intend to keep my vehicles for 7 to 10 years. Sometimes longer as a second. It has kept me from upgrading my current Tesla. If they allow me to transfer it to a new model, I would be very tempted.

u/hamburgernet 21h ago
This is the best option. Though they got rid of one time purchase it’s unlikely they’ll bring it back
1
u/nathonkim 19h ago
I want the $8,000 lifetime option back.
1
u/Alive-Intention-5679 5h ago
Reason I bought my 24 m3 in January to get that before it went away, and just plan on keeping it forever. My truck was getting old and wanted a nice daily driver but still have my 2000 Silverado as well. Drive it a couple times a month just to keep it going. Plus it's nice having a truck when you need one.

u/Mother-Syllabub-5214 18h ago
I’m not getting another unless they come back with the Model S
1
u/RandomGirlOnTheWeb 18h ago
I was just having a similar conversation. I like my x. Maybe a YL, but it just is not selling me yet. I hope we see more FSD competition and vehicle choices but the market.
The $8000 option is what came with mine, long before the subscription model. Now for a whole different issue, when will the computer get upgraded as promised? That 8k was supposed to go a long way.

u/DiscombobulatedBee0 18h ago
Lifetime is great as long as someone doesn't total your car on your behalf, or it meets some other catastrophic event.
I'd take an annual option as well, if for nothing else than not having to be nickel and dimed every month if I know I'm going to use it.
1
u/RandomGirlOnTheWeb 18h ago
That is a good point. I don't think my insurance will cover the software. Maybe a lifetime of the driver option... But I am sure the cost for that would be more than lifetime of the car.

u/ShoelessB 23h ago
You misspelled "an option that comes with the car"
1
u/hamburgernet 21h ago
Of course it should or have a 1 time license like they used to. I don’t necessarily mind paying for FSD as it’s something that’s actively developed
1
u/AGirlDad 19h ago
I don’t want annual.. I only run it when I take long trips.. I’d actually like a daily or weekly option
1
u/NutellaOrgies 17h ago
An annual wouldnt get rid of a monthly. It's just another choice

u/stef_ro 15h ago
Are you able to turn it on and off? In my experience, turning it on takes a few days to a week depending on the next update when it will be available. It’s not like premium connectivity that you can turn on instantly. So if I know I will have a long drive tomorrow, activating the subscription today may be too late.
1
u/Montecristo510 14h ago
It'll turn on immediately after subbing. If you mean getting the latest update after you've let your sub lapse,, I did that recently. It bumped me from v12 to v14.3 lite in less than 24 hours.

The only hope for a change is rivian. If their point to point fsd “autonomy +” goes live this year and is successful then Tesla will finally have some competition in the fsd world. Competition will lead to better pricing, right now they have none and can do whatever they want with pricing.
1
u/notabot_123 18h ago
Hahah! That’s what we thought of the streaming world! How stupid were we. My bet is both these M’Fkrs will increase the prices together.
1
u/This_Confection_990 18h ago
True and Tesla is probably the Netflix of streaming so it will always be the most expensive and lead the charge in price hikes for everyone to follow.
1
u/Anxious-Doughnut-224 14h ago
Can’t raise the price when no one is buying and right now very few buy FSD and they don’t even have competition
1
u/Anxious-Doughnut-224 14h ago
Netflix is still cheaper than cable which it replaced hence the ability to raise prices
1
u/EitherCharacter9342 19h ago
The Rivian point to point could be good alternative but not on the same level as FSD
1
u/This_Confection_990 19h ago
It won’t be as good, but it will be comparable and force Tesla to potentially incentivize their fsd. Rivian also just needs to get a 40-50k vehicle out too.

u/Glittering-Fuel-5055 18h ago
If one of the systems lets people actually set their speeds like cruise control, it’s not gonna matter how many people tell them that the Tesla system is better.
It won’t be better at setting speeds
1
u/Michael-Brady-99 9h ago
You don’t think Rivian will jack the price up once they have a comparable product? I don’t think $99 a month is crazy for FSD level software. That’s what, $3 a day or so? It costs more than that to park for 1 hour in Seattle.
1
u/CAD-newbie1487 19h ago
I think Volvo might surprise us all and beat Rivian to it. (this assumes Rivian will not deliver point to point this year)
1
u/twofiddymillion 15h ago
Tesla is like Apple. Competitors may come and go but Tesla UI + software is just too advanced and unparalleled. They have too much data and AI power to be able to match and/or overcome. It’s best to stop wasting time searching for alternatives. Tesla is the king of autonomous driving and AI.
1
u/Positive_League_5534 12h ago
Lotus, WordPerfect, Harvard Graphics, Blackberry, Palm, Kodak, and a slew of other companies used to have the same thing said about them.
1
u/Michael-Brady-99 9h ago
True, but Tesla is not one of those companies…they are on the other side causing those companies to go bust.
1
u/JohnJAM33 15h ago
Competition is good for the consumer. Go Rivian go Lucid go Chevy go Toyota...! Tesla is only currently kicking everything out there.
1
u/andrewsz__ 15h ago
I leave the insane people in the iPhone duo sub only to be exposed by the same stupidity in another..this crazy pedastle y'all put apple and tesla on is fucken insane and how quickly y'all are to parrot it the second you find the opportunity to online. Y'all give me second hand embarrassment lol
1
u/Michael-Brady-99 9h ago
Meanwhile Apple is a 5 trillion dollar company and the other, well are not. That takes actual sales and profits regardless of anyone’s opinion (good or bad) about the product.

This 100%. That being said I’m not holding my breath on that one from Rivian. If indeed the problem out there is there’s not enough batteries how are they gonna even sell many cars?
1
u/yetiflask 13h ago
If you think Rivian can have a solution to rival Tesla, I don't know what to tell you. Maybe in 5 years. MAYBE
1
u/Tupcek 12h ago
Tesla has their own chips they spent 10 years developing + several of their own data centers + billions spent into R&D every year to get where they are now.
Rivian might compete in advertising of their autonomy+, but not much more. You can’t really do such grand projects when your company is almost bankrupt. If there will be some competition, it will be Chinese, as XPeng and many others are not that far behind

Hot take …. I don’t find $99/mo super unreasonable for the product. I’m kind of happy to pay for the development cost of unsupervised. It makes such a huge difference in my daily life and stress… I find it reasonable
1
u/LEDaddyLights 6h ago
100% agreed. I was telling the wife that I’m shocked it’s only 100$ for what it does and how it alleviates that burden from me. To each their own. Some ppl see more value in it than others. Both sides can be correct in their own life/environment.
For instance, I have a genetic ,degrading vision issues, so for me, given my circumstances, having a reasonably pricing car that can drive it self (supervised) is the best thing since sliced bread, from my (crappy ) point of view! Lol I completely get that ppl come from different backgrounds and lifestyles etc, so I don’t think either side is absolutely correct or not. If I had to put a guessing # on it, for me, I’d still consider paying it if it were 400-500$/month. That’s probably the limit I’d be waivering back and forth if I should or shouldn’t, but again, it’s because of my situation and how much it helps MY level of living
My neighbors has a S and he doesn’t pay for it or use it at all. And in my brain, that’s crazzzzzy. Why have a tesla then?!? But I also understand that different people put more or less value on different things in life. For me it’s a life saver item, for him it’s an unnecessary expense!

I don’t mind monthly as I can’t really use it for 6 months of winter.

I too would re-sub if they did a cheaper annual
1
u/Mephistito 9h ago
I've read a ton of threads on this and overwhelmingly $50/mo is the tipping point where damn near everyone agrees they'd pay it every month without question.
Curiously I've asked people in real life and they've also always said the same price.

u/Prestigious_Sell9516 18h ago
Needs to be cheaper especially for HW3 cars. If it's worth 99 USD on on hwd4 it should be at least 50% less on hw3. Tesla needs to see that a drop off is coming for a lot of hw3 cars and cash in now instead of being greedy.

u/ThirteenHills 23h ago
They should do a permanent licence too like they used too.
But they won't do either if they can make more money with a monthly subscription.

u/Voidfang_Investments 23h ago
I’m with you - absolutely hate paying monthly. Try to do all subs annually.
1
u/IndigoBroker 16h ago
Yeah, but monthly sub means you don’t save money. And that’s what they care about.
1
u/Flashy-Bandicoot889 22h ago
Monthly subs are great for people who like flexibility. There are months I don't need FSD and I don't have to pay for it.
1
u/jsn3604 20h ago
I wouldn’t be opposed to that. I wonder how many people turn their subscription off and back on throughout the year. Answer to that might be the reason they don’t do it annually.
1
u/DevilsAdvocateFun 16h ago
I will and did. 3 month trial, paid for 1 at month for a trip. Turned it off oct 10
1
u/Mindless-Safe-7812 16h ago
as someone who only commutes like 20 minutes to and from work everyday. i dont really need it. but on those months i take a road trip its nice i can pay 100 bucks and my foot wont have to get tired. sure i have auto steering, but its nice to know it just automatically drives to the next destination on its own and passes all the traffic as well 😌
1
u/juan003 9h ago
Yes but if it’s only $99 per year, many won’t bother to turn it on/off end of season etc, and just let it run and auto renew each year. Many of those who turn it off are more hesitant to turn it back on later and become a dropped subscriber.
I do think a $99 yearly plan will help drive up more net subscribers.
1
u/gre3nl4nt3rn 7h ago
Man, I remember when there were posts about a year ago on how folks thought Tesla was dead in the water because no one was going to pay the monthly subscription for FSD since folks saw it to be too expensive.
Goes to show how much better it’s gotten and the mass appeal to the public.
1
u/South-Ad1426 4h ago
Here’s an unpopular opinion, charge us the cybercab rate when we use it, on demand, along with the subscriptions for regular users.

u/BaxBaxPop 23h ago
Why discount something that's already selling like hotcakes?
Usually you raise prices when you have the market cornered on a product with explosive demand...
1
u/hamburgernet 21h ago
I can go months without paying for FSD because monthly payments suck. If I had the option to buy once a year, I’d absolutely would. That 2 months free vs the 6 months I don’t pay for is more for them
1
u/nathonkim 19h ago
Yup. People will pay and use it more if they think they can justify the purchase.
1
u/BaxBaxPop 21h ago
I'm going to make a prediction: it's just a matter of time until you don't own a car and instead pay for a $400/m unlimited Cybercab subscription.
In a few years, the only people who will pay for FSD will be rich people. But that's fine, because the only people who will still own cars will also be rich people.
1
u/DiscombobulatedBee0 18h ago
I've seen this prediction on and off for over a decade now and it still hasn't happened.
Anyone who thinks the $400/m Cybercab subscription will become "reality" for everyone have never lived the rural life or had to tow something, or had a job that depended on your vehicle, or had a family of 5-6.

My guess, they will offer a yearly $1200, and monthly $120 soon.
1
u/DevilsAdvocateFun 16h ago
That might turn off a lot of users. Everything is more expensive so that is a luxury that would get cut
1
u/UpbeatPhilosophySJ 14h ago
The problem with the yearly subscription is when you gotta sell your car or your car gets wrecked... You just lost that on a lot of money.
