Seeking Advice 40F, is it too late to switch to a new IT career?

I am currently contemplating on pivoting a new career. Background: I make custom bridal wear and womenswear but the competition is really high ( Vietnam, people renting instead of custom order, etc). The pay is also absolutely low, and the labor is also high. I am feeling the crunch!

With the economy so sluggish I want to switch to Data Science or something in IT so I can work remote. I really dont have any idea how to start, what is the best advice you can give to someone who wants to pivot career?

Random Discussions For non-tech people looking to transition into tech, how are you keeping up with AI?

With how quickly AI is evolving, how do you keep yourself updated, especially if you’re a non-tech professional looking to transition into a tech-related role?
What skills are you currently learning? Are you taking online courses, earning certifications, building personal projects, or learning how to use AI tools?
I’d love to hear from people who have successfully transitioned from non-tech to tech roles, as well as those who are currently making the shift. What would you recommend to someone who’s just starting out?

Seeking Advice Is it difficult to switch from Desktop Support to DevOps?

I’m from Ahmedabad, India, and I’m starting my corporate career with my first internship in IT support. My current work mainly involves desktop support, Windows troubleshooting, hardware-related issues, and ticket handling.

I’ve been learning and practicing DevOps for around a year and hold RHCSA, RHCE, and AWS Solutions Architect Associate (SAA) certifications. However, I couldn’t find opportunities in System Administration or Cloud Support, so I decided to accept this internship to gain corporate experience.

My question is: Can I transition into a Junior DevOps or Cloud Engineer role after gaining some corporate experience in desktop support, or will it be difficult to make the switch?

I’m continuing to practice DevOps and work on projects alongside my job. I’d appreciate advice from people who have made a similar career transition, especially in the Indian IT industry.

Seeking Advice Career Advice Needed: Returning to IT After a 2-Year Maternity Break? Need Advice on Upskilling and Getting Back to Work

Hi everyone!

I have 3 years of manual testing experience, but I took a 2-year career break after maternity leave. Now I’m planning to restart my IT career, and I want to learn new skills and upgrade myself before applying for jobs.

I’m confused about which path would be best for me at this stage.

1.With my 3 years of manual testing experience, would it be better to continue in testing and learn automation testing or switch to data analytics by learning SQL and Power BI?

2.Are there any other IT skills or career paths you would recommend for someone returning to work after a 2-year break?

3.What skills should I focus on learning over the next 3–6 months to improve my chances of getting hired?

  1. i want to return to work, while building skills that will be useful for long-term career growth.

If anyone has faced a similar career break or works in these fields, I’d really appreciate your advice and honest opinions.

Thank you in advance

Seeking Advice 2nd year Biomedical Engineering student already working as a Data Engineer , drop out for CS or pivot to Bioinformatics?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

I’m currently in my second year of a Biomedical Engineering degree, but over time I’ve realized my interests lean much more toward software engineering than the biology or materials side of my major. In fact, I’m already working as a Data Engineer alongside school, so my practical focus is already centered on tech. This leaves me at a major crossroads about whether I should make a formal switch or stick it out.

One option is to drop out or transfer to a pure Computer Science program, but that means effectively losing two years and falling behind in school. The alternative is staying in Biomedical Engineering and eventually aiming for hybrid fields like Bioinformatics or Digital Health for graduate school or longterm career paths, though I honestly don't know if those niches are worth the effort compared to staying strictly in software.

I'm wondering if having an actual CS degree is critical enough to justify resetting my university timeline. I'd really appreciate any insights, especially from anyone who transitioned from Biomedical Engineering into tech or ended up working in Bioinformatics.

Seeking Advice Career advice

I'm 27M. Hey everyone, my life has been a little different from that of most people, and I don't have a strong educational background.

Right now, I'm working at a grocery store, but I want to improve my life and learn some stable, valuable skills that can help me earn a reliable income.

I've come across these four skills:

Python

SQL

Excel/Spreadsheets

Power BI/Tableau

I don't know much about these skills or their demand, competition, value, and future prospects.

Technology is constantly evolving, trends are changing, and AI is replacing some jobs. The value of different skills also changes over time.

Before I start learning, I want to understand whether these are the right skills to invest my time in for a stable career and income in the long run.

I'd appreciate your advice. Should I go for these skills, or would you recommend something else?

Seeking Advice Suggestions for a fallen Compsci degree student?

I kinda wasted my undergrad degree by not studying properly and even though I feel like I know a lot of stuff and am willing to learn, I am so fallen behind. At the same time, I have experience working as a live sports broadcast cameraman, and in IT Support. Now, thinking about switching the career a little bit towards IT or broadcasting. DevOps also seems interesting to me.

What master’s degree should I pursue as your advice? and why? Thanks.

I’m on F-1 visa in the US, so it’s a bit complex for me, as I gotta get a job in my degree-related field to get visa processing done.

Seeking Advice From Non tech to tech - Very tough journey

Hey everyone

So My journey has been very tough from the beginning.

I graduated from a Tier-3 college with a non-tech degree (BSc). After that, I learned web development and mistakenly joined a small lala company as a web developer. There, I was assigned different kinds of random work as I was the only guy there. Somehow, I completed 1 year there, but I forgot most of my tech skills.

After that, I was looking for WFH, so I joined a BPO chat process while preparing for an IT role side by side.

Now, I am going to join an MNC as a Software Engineer. Please guide me on what and how I should prepare for the role.

Thank you.

Is it necessary to have a tech background? Currently, I’m pursuing a BSc Maths Hons from DU, but I want to enter the tech field. Should I have done a tech degree like BTech, or is there still a way to enter the tech field by learning skills, etc.? Currently i m in 1st year btw
