Almost 30 years
I can't believe Subspace is roughly 30 years old. Started playing beta 0.95 back in 1996 (pretty sure).
Anyone remember some 17 year old dork named "Sleet"? Well, I'm 46 years old now and I would totally go for some 1600X900 resolution Running/Jackpot zone carnage.
Trixter, D-Tox, Babamonkey, kaboom!....etc.
What a trip that was.

I think Tucows is where I found 0.95 beta. That was maybe May of 1996??

What servers are still active? I wish Trench Wars was still busy, that was so perfectly balanced.

Wow so people are still talking about this game and even playing it. Maybe I should check it out again. :-) I've played it so much back in the day, especially Trench Wars. The last time I played it must be at least 10 years ago. I remember it made me a little sad to see the player base decline... There used to be so much activity there.

I started playing in the late fall of 96 (I'm 51). Only name you posted that sounds familiar is Trixter. My "home zone" was Extreme Games but honestly I haven't played SS in almost a decade. I went by the name "Wormhole Surfer."

I'm 50 now. I played this game on dialup. I never got more than 2.4Kbps so I could never do a real curve. The game made it easier to turn and aim at low bandwidth. The wife and I played together for a few years. All my coworkers in the early 2000s hated it because it was all keyboard controlled, the way things should be.

I downloaded the beta when it was V0.95 and thought it was the Windows 95 version.
Just pure coincidence.
