True mixed builds are hard to use competitively, not to say mixed mons are bad, a lot can in fact be good (and they especially shine on close sheet games where the element of surprise of not knowing if the iron valiant or lucario etc... will click a physical or special move), although they suffer from having most of their BST wasted where more specialized mons with the same bst might have higher bulk or speed or dedicated offensive stat. For more special attack it is also worse as both confusion self damage and enemy clicking foul play would use their high physical attack against them.
Some special mons can manage to fight against dedicated special walls with moves such as psychock, the signature move of Mewtwo and Keldeo or body press, but physical mons are often vulnerable due to burn halving their offensive potential unless you can abuse guts facade, there's also intimidate and parting shot, there are counterplays but not everyone has scrappy or defiant or clear body, snarl exist but with frostbite left in legend of arceus physical mons might have a reason to use a special move to break into physical walls and deal damage to kill specific meta pick targets.
Then there's the "move that can't be abused unless you have contrary or plan on switching out/u turn". It has lots of issues, can't use a choice item, you end up with relying on 3 slot moves, often less in double battles where you often need protect, considering you might also run recover, a status move or a way to setup plus a stab or coverage move it is quite limited, in single it works better at least but it's not the most efficient way to build your mom.
But damn it's satisfying, your 130 physical attacker with a 110 non invested overheat/draco meteor can still deal decent damage, it's really satisfying. If we had more moves of different types like that it might be used more, or an alternative for special mons cause superpower also lowers your defence, imagine a physical move that tired out and decreased your physical attack by 2 stages, could be useful for special mons too, or an electric variant for the mixed electric attackers to justify their 95 special attack cause they either use super slam cell, wild charge, forget their stab options or are forced to be run special. Overheat and lead storm also have the advantages of being booated by sun/grassy terrain, a water or electric move in a meta game with terrain and weather wars might be strong enough to deal gold damage even with an uninvested mon, and they'll become even more common if they add the paradox mons or the tapus or miraidon/koraidon, a water or electric or psychic variant could be nice.

Here's the server, and it looks like they're interesting in running tournaments after the bugs get ironed out. I know this isn't a TCG subreddit but it's a smogon-centered one and I think this is really cool to see.
Here's a random replay so you can see what it looks like

I’ve been a competitive player for a while and one thing I can’t stand is the other competitive players. They’re so toxic, examples can be the lower ladder saying the higher ladder is too tryhard and the upper ladder mocking the lower ladder. Also tell me why the Lobby mods on Showdown are some of the most annoying ppl ever when you get to know them more. Another thing is people getting mad that people aren’t using their favorites when playing and that they’re tired of losing to the ”same teams” like kindly stfu. It doesn’t matter if you like the pokemon or not. If it can win, then you use it.

Would this silly Blaziken special be viable? I think it'd be really funny to use.

I exclusively play Gen 3 random battles. It gives a speed stat spread for the opponent, and of course you know your Pokemon's exact stat.
It seems that the actual stat is always either the max of that spread, or 1 below the max. Is that right? And does anyone know why?

Like I get why they slap Life Orb on everything due to the equal EV distribution, but please for the love of everything holy just give me a Leftovers or Boots.
Most of the time you get one boost, take 40-60% of your HP from the opponent, (sometimes) one shot a single mon, then die to priority or LO recoil immediately after. And God forbid your opponent switches around and you don't predict perfectly. It's way too overused.
Like look at the Blaziken set. You're never sweeping with that bc the combo of LO and Flare Blitz only let's you take out a mon or two. I could name a bunch of other examples but you get my point. If that Blaziken set had Leftovers, it could actually sweep teams, or not drop to a single priority move every time.
I'm just glad that the existence of boots means that rock-weak Pokemon usually don't hold LO anymore, because it used to be WORSE. Could you imagine the pain of using LO Weavile in randbats before boots were a thing?

I believe the knock off buff inspired the use of pre-buff knock off in past generations, any other examples?

The items Choice Band and Choice Soecs are very overrated items in competitive pokemon. It just locks you into a move which can force switches or cost you a game even sometimes if you’re trying to 1v3 clutch. The reason why Scarf isn’t overrated is because it helps out speed your team’s threats and revenge kill

I've been wondering this recently because there's been several more in Champions, and I'm curious on what everyone else thinks. I'm not talking about removal of moves or new Pokémon additions, targeted buffs and nerfs. Here's some of my picks:
Inteleon: This is about both a buff and nerf to Inteleon, who has consistently paled in comparison to Rillaboom and Cinderace, so when Inteleon got added with Rillaboom and Cinderace for the terrain update, Inteleon got a buff...which was giving 5 extra BP to its signature move. Even Grassy Glide got nerfed and it's still more powerful than it with the Grassy Terrain boost, and Pyro Ball is nearly 1.5x that amount still. And it got Focus Energy back- but it was also unnecessary that it lost it in Gen 9. You gave Meowscarada a move that always results in a critical hit, what makes them any different?
Azumarill: Azumarill is definitely not bad at all. It has Huge Power, Belly Drum, Aqua Jet and a great typing in general, which has resulted in some fun Hyper offence strategies at times. In Gen 6, it gained the Fairy type, which was definitely a necessary buff for it to the point it went to OU- but this isn't about that. It's about it gaining 10 points to special attack, even though the entire strategy of it uses the opposite stat. And no one wants to take 60 special attack compared to the insane numbers Huge Power can result in, so it just ended up being ultimately unnecessary.
Woobat: No, not Swoobat. Woobat. In Gen 7, specifically Woobat and not Swoobat got an increase in HP from 55 to 65. So is Woobat any more useful with it? Well in LC everyone's Level 5 anyway so at most you got like one more HP point with that. This genuinely might be the most unnecessary buff in all of Pokémon.
Well, that's what I think, and now I'd like to hear what you think. What's the most unnecessary buff and nerf in all of Pokémon, and do you disagree with any of my picks?

Hey everyone! Welcome to Mega Monday!
This is a thread for focused Theorymon discussion. Today, we’re focusing on Mega Evolutions! Check out our Theorymon Thursdays for less regulated discussion.
Make-A-Mega Rules: - All Megas must be posted within this thread - Give us a complete breakdown of the Pokémon - Tell us how the 100 extra base stats are distributed - Do not alter the HP stat when adding the extra 100 stats - Don't move around more than 40 total BST in a single stat - Tell us what types and abilities work best for it - Try to avoid broken or over used abilities like Huge Power, Speed Boost, or Shadow Tag/Arena Trap on Pokémon that don't need that large of a boost. - Do not change the primary type, but you can add or change a secondary type - You may teach the Pokémon up to two new moves that it does not already learn - Give us its best move set in Showdown! export format - Please include artwork if you're feeling artistic! - If you downvote a comment, please provide feedback by leaving a response to the original comment

(Note before I start, I'm broke on VP and haven't bought a miracle seed, so coba berry is a place holder) I was making my Garchomp Z team and realised while looking for a secondary mega, Scizor and Garcomp Z synergize at least semi decently. Scizor covers its weaknesses (Ice, Dragon and Fairy) extremely well and Garchomp Z resists fire and can hit fire types back pretty hard, and with the set I'm using, it can take out the steels that wall scizor too. Too further elaborate on this team, I built it to see how well volcarona functioned based on a video I watched, which lead me to develop a fire water grass core and then decide on garchomp Z as the primary mega. I just want to know anybody elses thoughts on that particular synergy and how I could improve this team
