I’ve used this as my new tab every day for over a year, and I recently published it.

You pick widgets (tasks, habits, bookmarks, TV shows, tab audio and more), choose their sizes, and drag them where you want them.
You can put sticky notes anywhere on the page like a Figma or Miro board, and keep separate spaces, including a quiet Focus space.

The dashboard is free and works without an account. Cloud sync across devices is paid. Your tasks, notes, and bookmarks stay local unless you turn sync on.

Would love honest feedback. What’s the one thing that would make you switch from your current start page, or what would stop you?

I've always liked the idea of having a beautiful, personalised New Tab page, but I wasn't particularly keen on paying a recurring subscription just to make my browser feel like my own.

I wanted something that looked and felt premium, without putting the nicer parts of the experience behind a paywall. So I started building my own.

It's called StillTempo.

The idea is that your browser doesn't necessarily need to look or feel the same throughout the day.

There are two modes: Workspace, with cooler blue tones and a more focused atmosphere, and Lounge, which brings in warmer amber lighting and a more laid-back feel.

You can switch between them whenever you like, or let them change automatically based on a schedule you set.

Both modes share the same features: a little task list called the Hitlist, a focus timer, website shortcuts, weather, curated photography, and some jazz or lo-fi radio for background company.

I wanted it to be useful without constantly reminding me to be productive. Sometimes you just want to open a tab and enjoy the view.

There's no account or subscription required, and things like your tasks and preferences stay in your browser.

StillTempo is currently going through Chrome Web Store review, so I've put together a short preview of how it works.

I'd genuinely love some feedback before it goes live.

Does the idea of a New Tab that changes with your day appeal to you? Or is this one of those things that looks nice in a demo but wouldn't make much difference in everyday use?

Either answer would be helpful.

Hi everyone, I’m the creator of Fluent New Tab!

It’s a new tab extension inspired by Microsoft's Fluent Design 2, built entirely with vanilla web technologies, focusing on clean UX and visual comfort.

Because it uses modern web standards without heavy frameworks, it’s super lightweight, has a near-instant load time, and keeps RAM usage to a minimum.

Key features:

- Extensive shortcut grid: 4x10 grid with full folder support (each folder holds up to 40 shortcuts).

- Dynamic wallpapers: Support for local wallpapers and daily "Picture of the Day" APIs.

- Integrated search: Switch search engines directly from the search bar, with built-in voice search and quick hyperlinks to your favorite AI tools.

- RSS/Atom reader: A lightweight, fully customizable feed drawer.

- Dynamic display: Adaptive greetings based on the time of day and a customizable clock.

- Community-driven localization: Available in 20+ languages translated.

- Privacy-first: Zero tracking and permissions requested strictly on demand.

-The best part is flexibility: you can customize every single element into a full productivity dashboard or hide everything to enjoy a clean, minimalist wallpaper and clock.

Feel free to try it out! It’s available on the Chrome Web Store, Edge Add-ons, Firefox Add-ons, as well as an offline local build on GitHub.

This is Mist, a new tab extension I build on my own.
I wanted a start page that looks good and stays out of the way: clock, weather, search, shortcuts, a wallpaper. That's it.

What's in 1.17:

• 5 developer palettes: Monokai, Dracula, Nord, Catppuccin Mocha and Latte
• Optional widgets (to-do, focus timer, habit tracker) that collapse into a small dock, so the wallpaper stays visible
• Clock size, bold, outline and high-contrast controls
• Custom wallpapers (PNG, JPG, WebP) with a palette generated locally from the image

No account, no telemetry, and everything is stored on your device.

Chrome, Firefox and Zen. Link in the comments. Feedback is welcome, especially on the layout.

I originally created the 1st version 7 years ago just for my own use and I’ve been refining it ever since just for myself. After using it locally all this time and having friends & colleagues constantly ask for it, I finally decided to finish it and make it public 🎉

Every bookmark manager I tried wanted me to import everything into its own database. After that I had two copies, a sync problem, and one more place to forget about.

Pikamark skips all that. It’s a new-tab page that works on your actual browser bookmarks. Rename, move or delete something in it and the browser’s own bookmark manager shows the change; change something there and the board follows right away. Uninstall it and nothing is lost, because nothing was ever copied.

What’s in there: your bookmarks as columns of folders, or any folder as a gallery of tiles. Notes and checklists as cards right next to the links. Favorites, color labels, a command palette, a toolbar popup, some widgets like a timer, countdown and counter.

Privacy: no account, no ads, no analytics. The only network call is a license check, and only if you activate Pro.

Free (fully functional): the whole core, forever, with no bookmark limit: board, gallery, notes, favorites, labels, search, themes, trash with undo, backup.
Pro (optional, with extra features): tags, comments and reminders, workspaces, pinned links, backgrounds, the extra widgets, bulk rename, automatic backups. 14-day trial and no card.

Try it here: Chrome / Firefox / Edge / Opera / Brave / Vivaldi

P.S. A pika is a tiny mountain animal that stashes all sorts of things for later, a lot like us with bookmarks. Hence Pikamark 🐹

update on the catppuccin / gruvbox / nord one I posted here last week. 3 more palettes went live today, official colors, tokyo night has day + night and rosé pine has main + dawn. dracula is dark only

other stuff that changed since then: a true black theme for oled, save selected tabs (highlight a few tabs and one click drops them all in a stack), and tab bankruptcy, which stashes every open tab in every window and gives you a dumb certificate lol. also fixed the brave bug from the last thread, Beginning-Tank-1022 tracked it down

still just your normal chrome bookmarks laid out as a board, no account, nothing leaves the browser. links in the comments

Hey all! I built Tabscape because every new tab page I tried was either cluttered with news and ads, or too plain to enjoy looking at.

What it does:

- Your go-to sites in tidy, colour-coded columns. Pick from categories on first run, then rename, recolour and drag them however you like

- Animated backgrounds drawn live: starry night, city lights, rain, fireflies and snowfall (or your own image)

- A greeting with your name, an optional clock and search box

- Syncs between your computers with Chrome sync

- No account, no tracking, no servers. Everything stays in your browser

Chrome: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/tabscape/lcfglngeemnollbmimbfjmlifgbhiclk
Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/tabscape-new-tab/

Try it in your browser first: https://heyjeay.github.io/tabscape/demo/

Firefox version is in review now.

It's open source (GPL), so feedback, bug reports and pull requests are all welcome: https://github.com/heyjeay/tabscape

Chrome extension, links and source in the comments

• Build your own widgets. Write a widget (HTML/JS) and load it straight onto your new tab, next to the built-in ones (clock, weather, todo, pomodoro, calendar, and more).
• Build your own layout. Drag cards anywhere and resize each one. Every widget, your favorites and the activity feed are separate cards. There are also preset layouts if you don't want to fiddle.
• Tab grouping. Open tabs are grouped by domain automatically, so 14 GitHub tabs become one tidy group.
• Desktop sync (optional). The desktop app (macOS / Windows / Linux) syncs your tabs with the new tab page, and adds a launcher and a sidebar.

Appearance

• Custom themes
• Unsplash wallpapers: 25 hand-picked featured ones plus more to browse
• Your choice of fonts

This is CGT: Customizable Glass Tab, a Chrome start page I'm developing with AI assistance.

The layout is adjustable: move the clock, weather, notes, and other widgets where you want them, keep your bookmarks in a dock, and use your own image or video as the wallpaper. You can change the blur and tint to make the panels fit the background.

I've had very little feedback so far. I'd like to hear what you think of the layout, especially whether the glass panels stay readable over busier wallpapers.

Demo: https://www.reddit.com/r/chrome_extensions/comments/1x1znul/i_made_a_glassstyle_new_tab_for_chrome_with_live/

Extension: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/cgt-customizable-glass-ta/hgfjjhjombnndompgbipafmmbmnkklhf

This is the start page I made and use every day. Every new browser tab opens the same desk: clock, weather, calendar, to-dos, books, and a small spreadsheet, a notes editor and a canvas for quick flyers. You move and resize the widgets, pick colors for each one and for the background, and the layout is saved.

Since my previous post, I created brand-new widgets, like the Sheets widget, the Notes widget, the Canvas widget, the Focus widget and a few more.

It is free as an extension for Chrome and Safari (Mac). Links in the first comment.

Hi r/startpages! I posted about nextDash here a while ago, but so much has changed since then that I'd like to give you an update.

nextDash is an open-source start page and bookmark dashboard that you host yourself. It runs as one container, keeps everything in a folder of plain JSON files you can read and take with you, and you can run most of it from the keyboard. Here is what it does today.

Bookmarks

• Pages, categories, tags and your own shortcuts per bookmark. One search box for bookmarks, tags and commands, plus your own custom search engines.
• Edit inline, or in the Bookmarks view: one line per bookmark with its tags, health score and 30 days of opens. Group, filter and bulk-edit.
• Smart collections sort your dashboard around what you actually use. Import from your browser, and keep backups.
• Add links with a browser extension or Ctrl+V, or park them in the inbox and triage them one at a time.
• Opens are counted on your own server and feed a Statistics section: usage over time, your most opened bookmarks, cleanup candidates, and a "needs attention" list. Export it as CSV.

Health

• Broken, stale or never-opened links are flagged, each with a clear next step.
• Set any bookmark to Monitor, every 5 minutes to every 24 hours. Alerts go to Slack, Discord, Telegram, Gotify, ntfy, Pushover or your phone, and certificates warn you before they expire. Maintenance windows keep planned downtime quiet.
• Every check and outage is kept, so you can see uptime and a trend.

Widgets

Weather, calendar, RSS, uptime, certificates, inbox and a custom widget for services like AdGuard, Sonarr or Jellyfin.

• Notes: Markdown, with checkboxes you tick right on the tile.
• Processor, memory and disk: the state of your machine at a glance.

A wide widget shows more detail, and falls back to a compact version on a phone.

Docker containers

nextDash can also manage the containers on your Docker host. Mount the Docker socket and you get a Containers view next to your bookmarks:

• Monitoring: status, ports and a link to each web UI, live logs, CPU and memory, a timeline of crashes, restarts and updates, and notices when a container crashes, turns unhealthy or runs hot.
• Updating: update checks against the registry, release notes before you update, update history and rollback, and optional automatic updates in a nightly window that roll back if the container fails afterwards.
• Control: start, stop, restart, update and remove containers, one at a time or a whole compose project at once.
• Clean-up: a Disk tab shows what images, volumes and build cache take, and clears what nothing uses.

The Docker view is read-only until you turn actions on. Starting, stopping and updating need an explicit setting and a write token, because a writable Docker socket is root on your host.

A container can be linked to a bookmark. nextDash finds the match by port, subdomain or title, or you pick one. The container then shows its bookmark's health, and the bookmark links back to the container. A container can be running while its web UI is broken, and this is how you notice.

Looks

The theme studio is a panel that opens beside your dashboard, so you see every change on your own bookmarks and widgets. Nothing is saved until you press Apply, Cancel puts everything back, and Compare shows the look you started with.

• 300+ themes, light and dark. Each has a character (glass, paper, terminal, neon, velvet and more) that sets shine, glow, corners and grain, not only colours.
• Backdrops: 26 of them (mesh, aurora, bokeh, nebula, topo, blueprint and others), drawn from the theme's own colours and adjustable in blur, brightness and saturation.
• Surface and headers: card glass with its own opacity, blur and border, and five category header styles.
• Twelve ready-made looks (Glass, Frosted, Aurora, Paper, Blueprint, Terminal, Neon and more) to start from.
• Icons: bookmarks and containers get their app icon automatically, thanks to the integration of dashboard-iconsand selfh.st/icons. The icon follows your theme between light and dark, and you can always pick another one.
• Theme editor: recolour any theme, or use "Save as theme…" to turn what is on screen into your own theme, backdrop and surface included.

Try it

nextDash itself runs as a single Docker container, as a multi-arch image (amd64 and arm64) on GHCR and Docker Hub:

docker pull ghcr.io/jordibrouwer/nextdash:latest

It is also available in the Unraid Community Applications store. Search for "nextDash" in the Apps tab and install it from there.

• All features, one page each
• Source code on GitHub

Questions and feedback are welcome, especially from people moving over from another start page.

Hey everyone!

I’m currently developing a lightweight, minimal new-tab dashboard extension focused on a clean aesthetic and zero clutter.

Current features so far:
• Real-time clock & greeting
• Weather card with local conditions
• Quick search bar with keyboard shortcut (/)
• Custom wallpapers / dark glass theme

Since it’s still early in development, I’d love to hear your thoughts:

1. What essential widgets or quick links do you look for in a new tab page?
2. How does the layout and spacing look to you?

Any feedback, recommendations, or feature requests would be really helpful!

Hello r/startpages!

Over the last couple of months I have made Startpage Gallery, a gallery for browsing and sharing startpages made by this community!

You can browse the submitted startpages, search for specific tags or keywords, and sort by date added, date updated, number of stars, and more. You can also easily submit a startpage you enjoy, or one that you have created, by filling out submission form on GitHub.

If you have any suggestions for the website, feel free to ask, and if you wish to submit a bug report, feature request, or pull request, feel free to submit one! I am quite excited about this project, and I would love to see it improve!

Direct link: https://startpage.gallery
GitHub: https://github.com/InterstellarOne/startpage-gallery
Submit a startpage: https://github.com/InterstellarOne/startpage-gallery/issues/new?template=submit-startpage.yml

Why I made it:

Last fall I had the idea to make an up-to-date list of startpages. I love checking out what startpages people have made, but after I saw one that I like when browsing Github, extension stores or this subreddit, I didn't have a good way to keep track of it or share it. There are lots of cool startpages that people have made that you may not know about, just because you've never come across them.

I had looked for a list of startpages at the time and didn't see one that had been recently updated, so I decided to make my own. I then realized it would be nice to have an image and a link to each platform that each startpage is on, but if I were to just do so in a single markdown document, it would have been pain to navigate. That is when I had the idea to make a standalone website!

At that time I did not know JavaScript, and I was also really busy with university. So I put the idea on the back-burner, made a concept mockup over winter break (which ended up being scrapped anyways due to UI issues) and earlier this summer I learned JavaScript and Astro in order to make this website, which I have spent the last two months putting together in my free time. JavaScript is actually quite similar to C, which I was already familiar with, so it was easier than I expected, but still a lot of fun.

If you made it this far, thanks for reading! If you want to help in a small way, submit a startpage or two that you enjoy and use! That way, more people can discover the startpage you are currently using.

building a startpage that just reads straight from chrome bookmarks, so links sync everywhere and survive if you ever ditch the page. but bookmark folders are kinda rigid and a lot of you clearly put real love into custom link lists

which way do you go and why? and if you're on a custom list, what would it take to get you onto browser bookmarks (or the other way round)

so for the past 6 months or so i've been trying to build a real operating system for web apps

the idea is pretty simple. it's a real, programmable system with a web desktop you can reach from anywhere, but the apps on it are built with normal web tools. what's new is that you build the app inside the system, and it takes care of auth and communication for you, so you only worry about the app's own logic

everything you see in there is an app built on top of the system (i call them programs), not part of it

the other thing is it's designed for agents first. any agent can use these apps directly, you don't have to build a separate interface for it

tested it on macOS and linux. windows, honestly no idea yet

it's fully open source (MIT)

https://github.com/PhreshOS/system

demo (it can handle about 5 sessions at the same time, so if it's full just try again in a bit)

https://demo.phreshos.com/

you can also run it on your machine or in a github codespace

https://phreshos.com/docs

would love to hear what you think, good or bad
