Discussion Okay, I'll Ask: Is "Neon Odyssey" just 'Starfinder 5E'?
First, I want to make clear: This is NOT meant as a put down to the producers of "Neon Odyssey".
From what I have seen, it looks like a very interesting game and setting, and it has the honor of being the most heavily supported kickstarter for a TTRPG product ever (16 MILLION! đ )
I just watched a Youtube video by Bob Builder on the 'Kickstarter TTRPG Bubble': https://youtu.be/ntwwALztXbo
He mentions Neon Odyssey and its success. However, upon looking at it myself, it does seem to be doing a lot of the things that Starfinder (1E or 2E) does: A Space Fantasy/Opera setting using some variation of the D20 Rules system.
Again, I'm not saying its a 'copy' of Starfinder, but maybe a entry in a genre that's already a bit 'glutted'? Then again; there are far more "Tolkien-esque Fantasy" kickstarters out there than Sci-Fi/Space Opera ones, so.....
That being said, I have looked at 5E iterations of other properties, and liked them, like the various Unofficial 5E Dark Sun conversions, Star Wars, and Even Mass Effect (...cold 40 for Bioware, folks đ )
I'll probably pick up the core rulebook pdf at some point, just to give it a look see, even if I never intend on playing it (still got way too much SF1E stuff I haven't used to switch to any new system đ )
Just curious as to anyone else's opinions.
