Want to connect with other offer holders ? With multiple other whatsapp gc we created a discord server

Hi there ! If you want to connect with other students holding an offer for st. andrews feel free to join our discord

https://discord.gg/SGsF4z3fpH

Why discord ?

There is a better moderation system available, whereas whatsapp has virtually no moderation possible. ( we are so fed up of random ppl joining in to make advertising)

Feel free to also ask for modifications on the discord !

Thanks again for your time and see you in the server 👋

Interview/Comments about Fright Night Ticket Resellers

Hello! My name is Lea, I'm a writer for the student newspaper, The Stand. We're currently working on an article about scam resellers and overpriced reselling of the Fright Night tickets. I've noticed a few people have discussed this here so I wanted to reach out and see if anyone would be willing to give an interview or detail an account of your experiences with this!

If you'd be happy to be in the article, please send me a message or drop a comment and I'll get in touch!

How difficult is it to defer an exam in St Andrews?

Hello everyone! Im a masters student. I have an in class test in 3 days but I don’t feel ready and also I am competing for BUCS. Is there anything I can do to defer it? Like get a note from GP saying that I have problems with my mental health? How strict is St Andrews in these kinds of things?

Thanks!!

Looking to make some friends

Hi everyone!
I’m a second year student at St Andrews, originally from England, and I’m looking to meet some like-minded people and make a few friends.
I love driving, cars, cooking, and generally trying new things like ice skating. I’m probably a bit of a nerd given that I study medicine, but I enjoy learning about all sorts of things. I also absolutely love dogs!
If anyone has similar interests or fancies meeting up for a coffee or doing something together, feel free to drop me a message

Missing St Andrews and all the people, birds, and plants I met there

Feeling a little nostalgic for this time in 2025. St Andrews, Scotland, was such a beautiful place, full of nature and genuinely lovely people.

One of my favourite memories was a community litter pick at Kinness Burn. A bunch of wonderful people came together, and we ended up collecting 94.5 kg of litter! Still can't believe how much rubbish we found.

Tabea and Tommy were incredibly kind and welcoming. Huge thanks to both of them for all the time and effort they've put into looking after this place. And Emily and Caeleigh, who always joined in with so much enthusiasm!

The cleanup also brought together people from different backgrounds, including Zian Wang, founder of Rebirth Planet (再生星球, formerly known as Recycling Planet), an environmental initiative started in China. There were also St Andrews undergrads and local residents whose names I unfortunately can't remember.

Just people from different parts of the world, spending a little time doing something good for the place we shared.

We took a group photo at the end. Nothing extraordinary, just one of those lovely little days that stays with you.

Really miss St Andrews and everyone who made it special.

Anyone selling a Fright Night ticket (St Andrews)?

Hey, I missed out on getting a ticket for Fright Night at 601 in St Andrews and was wondering if anyone has a spare one they’re looking to sell. Happy to pay a bit over face value.
Please DM me if you do, thanks!

Applying physics major

I’m an American student currently taking AP physics and AP calc ab, and I heard that unconditional offers are typically given to students at my school. Is it guaranteed that I would have to wait until these two AP scores come out to be accepted into a physics program (only if I get the required score ofc)?

Or do they look at school grades in the classes and decide from that? I’ve already taken 4 other APs and gotten 4s and 5s, 5 in chem (which may help?). My grades and SAT are good for the school. I just don’t wanna wait until July for all of my decisions, but I know that these two APs are most important to the course.

Expensive re-sell scams - fright night

Anyone selling a Fright Night ticket for £25–£30?

Hey! I’m a first year living in DRA and missed out on the Fright Night ticket sales. I’d love to go, but most resale tickets I’ve seen are £50+, which is literally insane for 1 night

Does anyone have a spare they’d be willing to sell for around £25–£30? Or know if there’ll be another chance to buy tickets? I would really appreciate it, thanks divas

I'm sad to read that Douglas Dunn has died. He was a member of staff in the English department when I studied in St. Andrews and was an inspiring figure.

Good fit for a neurodivergent non-drinker?

American mum here. My kid has fallen in love with St Andrews and is interested in applying for joint honours in Classical Studies and English. They’re neurodivergent, don’t drink, and not into parties.
How accurate is the BBC show "The Bubble"? And can a non-drinker have a real social life there, especially during Freshers' Week and Raisin Weekend?
Would love to hear from neurodivergent students or alums, non-drinkers, or anyone in Classics or English. Thanks!

Lonely in StA

Hello everyone!

I've just started 2nd year. So far I have failed miserably to make friends. I'm not great at striking up conversations/joining in/socialising in general. I'd like to change the lonely vibe I have there.

About me:

I am a mature female student, I commute from Perth 4 days a week.

I study a mixture of biology and psychology (neuroscience).

I am incredibly nerdy, love to share what I'm learning about, and would love to learn from others too.

I am always up for a game of chess (I have a chess.com).

I come from a healthcare/bioscience background and am a widening access student.

Big fan of anything science, psychology, philosophy & open minded to more... 😄

About you:

Friendly.

🫶

BRING BACK THE PABLO RAINBOW

Sorry for shouting but I’m a bartender at the union and have learned that there was once a pablo rainbow. You could have white, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, and pink pablos! But due to cutting costs (and I suppose a lack of demand for the disregarded colours), we now only have five colours; white, red, blue; orange, and yellow.

From my understanding, and for pink pablos especially, they were cut because vk started charging more, classifying pink, purple and green as *special* flavors. Which is stupid

Last week, a girl came up to me and asked for a pink pablo. Obviously, I explained that we don’t carry pink vk anymore. She asked if there was anything I could do to try and make her a pink Pablo, and I just kind of winged it. I put white vk in, and instead of two shots of Smirnoff, I did two shots of raspberry schnapps! She said it was amazing :)

I also tried it when I got home and she was right, probably best Pablo I’ve ever had, so yummy

Anyways, this got me thinking that why not just use a white VK base to bring back our forgotten flavors? Like midori or apple sours for a green Pablo, chambord or cherry sours of a purple Pablo, and raspberry schnapps for pink!

Then we can finally have the Pablo rainbow back, just in time for raisin

Also yes a Pablo automatically has no ice, this is how we are taught to make it. Please stop getting annoyed with staff when they give you a Pablo without ice. If you want ice, just ask when you’re ordering

What nicknames have you heard for places in and around St Andrews?

I ask as part of a linguistic study covering this topic!

Examples could include things like The Cri, Strath, Honky Tonk, Super Cupar or St Andys (never mind how common they are)...

incl. nicknames for schools, parks or other institutions/geographic features

Rector Race

Don’t know if anyone cares, but does this race for the rector position seem to be a total pisstake to anyone else?? I graduated last year, but come on - an American celeb who is campaigning because he plays golf here a lot, another American who has impressive credentials but whose only connection seems his child having attended the uni some years ago, and an MSP, who, while being a graduate, is actively representing a constituency elsewhere seem to be the front runners. Is this not insane? What value do these people bring to the table for the student body?

Tbf I’m probably being a bit of a neek about this and yea, not really my problem anymore. But a shame to see how it’s playing out. Best of luck to the other candidates, I hope reason prevails and you lads get a crack.

Postgraduate Accommodation Stanley Smith and Angus House

Hello! As an offer holder I have been looking into some postgraduate accommodation options and I was looking into the Angus House and the Stanley Smith House options, but I haven't been able to find much about the pros and cons of staying there, does anyone have any recommendations or pictures of how it is???

Comp Lit / art history

Hey!!

As someone currently in s6, St Andrews is my top uni choice rn and I was wondering how hard it is to get in for the joint honours of comparative literature and art history.

The open day didn’t give me that much insight into the admissions, just more about the town itself so I’m wondering if all the stress I’m feeling about potentially being rejected is really worth it or not (I have a tendency to overthink).
