I've been working on image matting (background removal) for the past six years, and I recently released the third generation of withoutBG, an open-weights background removal model focused on difficult cases like hair, fur, transparent objects, and fine details.

You can use it in several ways:

Example outputs:

Release I built a local index MCP so your agent stops grepping the whole disk. It reduces up to 42% of tool calls and 21% cheaper on a 33k-file monorepo.

I don't know if you've noticed, but when Claude Code, Codex, or any other agent needs to find code, it runs grep. It searches your files for an exact string, reads a few results, and greps again until it finds what it wants. You pay tokens and wait for every round.

That worked fine when repos were small. But codebases are growing fast, partly because agents now write so much of the code. Every grep round costs more than it did last month, whether you notice it or not.

There's a second problem: grep only finds what you already know how to name. Ask it for "where we handle rate limits from the billing provider" and it gets 0% right on the first try, because it needs the exact string.

So I built Pensieve. It's a local index of your code, documents, and past agent sessions. Any agent can query it over MCP and get the few files that matter on the first try. A few cents saved per lookup doesn't sound like much. It adds up over hundreds of lookups a day.

Check out Pensieve!

Release anarlog - open-source AI meeting notes that run locally, no bot joins the call

Anarlog's new-note screen on macOS

i'm one of the founders of Anarlog, an open-source (MIT) meeting notetaker. it captures mic + system audio directly on your device instead of sending a bot into the call. notes, transcripts, and recordings stay in a local SQLite database and local files by default.

transcription and summaries can run fully locally too: on-device models on supported Macs, pick which local Whisper model runs, or point Anarlog at Ollama, LM Studio, Unsloth, your own API key, or a subscription you already pay for (ChatGPT, Grok, GitHub Copilot, Kimi Code).

shipped v1.4.17 today: nested folders for organizing notes, more resilient on-device speaker diarization for separating who said what during batch transcription, and a set of recording reliability fixes.

Release [OS] SpareDisk 1.2: Free up Disk space on your mac

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

I saw lots of Disk Space Analyzer and Cleaner with > $10 price, which are basically a good interface for your Mac native storage.

I built SpareDisk over the last few weeks, kept it bare minimum in terms of bloat features but focused on speed, parallelism, and queue management for storage scan and space free up.

You can review your whole file system without hanging the computer. Version 1.1 is live on Mac app store (1.2 is live on website download.) I have tested it well over multiple laptops.

You can download the app from the website for "pay whatever you want" (minimum $4.99)

DiskBuddy has inspired the project. This was initially sold at $12, and users complained about memory leaks, permission issues, and app blocks when you run Duplicate File Finder.

If you are a developer, it can find spaces occupied by Xcode, node packages, files form 2021, and many old cache you don't need.

SpareDisk is App Store friendly(App is pending for review). It is sandboxed, following Apple's permission guidelines and memory optimisation.

SpareDisk V1.2 includes:

  • My Mac storage overview with live used and free space
  • Treemap, sunburst and list views
  • Folder, external drive and network share scans
  • Large files, older files and file type breakdowns
  • Developer caches: Xcode, simulators, Homebrew, npm and more
  • Duplicates verified by file contents, extra copies staged in one step
  • App removal, related data and leftovers from removed apps
  • File size and size on disk, changes since your previous scan
  • Search, filters, exclusions, Quick Look and keyboard navigation
  • Review queue with live progress, rechecks and retry
  • Cleanup history and a Trash total that follows what you moved
  • Optional menu bar summary and finished-scan notifications

No account. No uploads. Your files stay on your Mac.

On cleaning space: You can view your files from the app itself, and it doesn't directly delete your files in one click. It sends them to "review cleanup" section from where you can move items to Trash. You only delete files when you clean the trash.

Exception is App uninstall (if the app is not running, you can uninstall the app from within the interface).

Full disclosure:

App is also available as 'Pay whatever you want (minimum $4.99)' for the Apple notorized app you can download after web checkout. All future updates will be on Website and Mac App store downloads.

You can also download the app from website: https://sparedisk.minilabs.cc/ (V1.2 is live)

Please leave star on the repo, it will be very helpful!

Release BurnGuard - open-source design workspace that runs on the Claude Code or Codex you already pay for

Claude Design keeps your files in a hosted workspace and runs on your plan's usage. I built BurnGuard to keep them on your computer and use the Claude Code or Codex CLI you already have.

It's a desktop app for Windows and macOS. You pick a design system, describe what you want, and it makes websites, slides and graphics next to a live canvas.

It ships with 41 design systems, each with its own navigation, hero and footer layout rules. You can edit on the canvas or leave pinned comments, then export HTML, PDF, PPTX or PNG, or publish a site to your own Vercel. Files stay local.

What it doesn't do well yet: generation isn't instant (the one-line landing page in the README demo took about five minutes), PPTX slides come out as images with the text in speaker notes, and the installers are unsigned so you get a security warning on first launch. macOS is Apple silicon only.

I'm the author. It's free and Apache-2.0: https://github.com/ashmoonori-afk/BurnGuard

Feedback on what's missing is welcome.

Release RemoveMacAI 1.0, a free open source app to turn off apple intelligence and clean up macOS 27

Thumbnail gallery
6 Upvotes

macOS 27 dropped the one switch to turn apple intelligence off, and the models sit on your disk taking around 12 gigs whether you use them or not

i made a tool for it last week and 1.0 is a full app now instead of terminal commands

it turns apple intelligence off and removes the models, but you can keep any feature you actually use

privacy stuff like mac analytics, personalized ads and the siri improvement thing off

stops other apps' background updaters, stops the play key from opening music, clears old installers and caches

plus a bunch of finder and dock tweaks people kept asking for

you see every change before it applies and there's an undo page for all of it

SIP stays on, nothing in /System is touched, no network requests, no account

apple silicon on macOS 27 only for now

Release Zaku 26.0 beta - Local-first, open-source API client desktop app

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Hey, I wanted to share that the initial beta release of Zaku 26.0 is now out!

It is available on Linux, macOS and Windows.

I've been working on this rewrite in Rust™ for the last 7 months full-time, tbh things got carried away and it has a lot more functionality that the original app didn't have (command palette, auto-updater, git integration, etc.) so it's not just a plain rewrite.

Little bit about the app, it stores collections as folders and requests as TOML files. Everything is stored locally on user's filesystem, it doesn't have any login functionality (and never will).

There is a barebones Git integration for now to show branch, status indicators and stuff.

This app is very early, if you try it out please let me know if there's something missing, not working or things you'd like to see added.

Release LumoTray BETA now available for macOS

Thumbnail gallery
8 Upvotes

Hi all,

LumoTray is a multi-monitor wallpaper, screensaver, lockscreen manager with also a custom menu builder and hot-corners implementation.

I've been developing LumoTray for Windows for a few years now and decided it was time to see if something similar could be done in macOS.

The result turned out surprisingly better than I expected and I have managed to include all the features that are available on the Windows version in a simillar UI.

Download and more info at https://lumotray.com/mac/

Any feedback or bug reports are very welcome.

Cheers!

Release Holeberry – a native macOS menu bar app for Pi-hole (free, open source)

Thumbnail github.com
2 Upvotes

Hey r/software ,

I've been running Pi-hole for a while and got tired of opening the web UI every time I just wanted to check status or unblock something for five minutes. So I built Holeberry, a native macOS menu bar app for it. Free and open source (MIT).

What it does:

  • Lives in your menu bar, shows status and total queries/blocked at a glance
  • Manage up to two Pi-hole instances at once. Every action (block/unblock/allowlist) applies to both, so they never drift out of sync
  • Disable blocking globally with a timer (or indefinitely). An auxiliary countdown will be right in the menu bar; re-enables automatically
  • One-click unblock of whatever site broke in your current browser tab (Safari, Chrome/Chromium, Firefox/Zen), without a global disable
    • The standout feature for me and the one I've been using the most
  • Browse recently blocked domains and allowlist/unblock them straight from the menu
  • Trigger a Gravity update right from the menu bar, on all your servers simultaneously
  • Now fully notarized with a paid developer account
  • Supports passwordless Pi-hole instances

Why Holeberry and not another app?
I looked around before building this. Some of the existing companion apps for Pi-hole weren't in active development anymore; felt outdated or didn't do the things I actually needed day to day: keep two instances in sync, unblock just the tab I'm on instead of disabling blocking for the whole network, and being able to glance at it quickly. Those ended up being the features I use most, so they became the core of the app.

Requires macOS 14+, supports Pi-hole v6 (and v5, though less tested). Credentials live in Keychain, nothing written to disk.

GitHub: https://github.com/pedrovieira/Holeberry

Happy to answer questions, and open to feature requests / bug reports.

Release I made a program to move all files from multiple folders to a single folder

I often face the problem that in a project or in personal files everything is in extra folders and subfolders. I decided to make an application that would help with this easily, quickly and accessible, so I share my pet creation Aftof. https://github.com/vladane/aftof

Mac and Windows supported

P.S. It is especially convenient to sort the asset folders in the engines and the personal photo folders. 😁

Release Radix: Native macOS Disk Space Analyzer (Open-Source DaisyDisk Alternative)

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

Hey everyone! I recently released Radix, a macOS disk space analyzer.

The code is open-source, available here. You choose a path (directory, folder, volume, etc.), and the app scans it and displays the results in an interactive sunburst chart.

I built Radix as an alternative to DaisyDisk ($9.99). I tried using SquirrelDisk instead, an open-source Rust alternative, and it's great, but it hasn't been maintained since the start of 2023, and as you might expect, it has a bunch of issues right now.

Apps like GrandPerspective and Disk Inventory X are amazing, but Radix also competes with them, offering more efficient scanning and a much more intuitive and native UI. The main difference between those apps and Radix is that Radix uses sunburst visualization instead of treemaps.

Here are the main selling points in my eyes:

  • Native macOS experience. Built with SwiftUI elements almost exclusively for an intuitive UI that fits right in with macOS itself. Native technologies have many benefits for an app like this.
  • Really fast scanning engine using iterative traversal. Faster than all the competitors in my tests... uses a couple of cool shortcuts to save time!
  • Lots of cool features that don't exist in some alternatives. Use Quick Look on any file, search just the current folder or the entire scan tree, and closely inspect the metadata of any file by clicking on it.

If you have low storage space on your Mac and are curious about what's taking up space, try Radix (it's only 3.41 MB)! Other solutions are great, but I've been trying to make Radix the best way for anyone to analyze their storage.

I also made a beautiful website for Radix (thanks Claude!), so feel free to take a look here and download the app there: https://radix.colinkim.dev/

Thanks so much! Feedback, bug reports, and feature requests are all welcome, and if you like the project, I'd love if you could star the GitHub repo (linked on the website).

One thing to note: My M1 and M5 MacBooks are both on macOS Tahoe, so I haven't been able to test Radix on Sequoia or below. Rather than ship something that might not work well, I've set the minimum macOS requirement for Radix to be macOS Tahoe 26, because I don't want to give users of older macOS versions an unpolished experience. Sorry about that :( — if there are a lot of you guys on older versions, I'll try to set up a few VMs for testing and allow older macOS versions to run the app.
