I mostly grew up with the PS1 and Game Boy and missed out on the early 90s era. Yet, I’ve always had a weird nostalgia for the SNES because the games and soundtracks are so iconic. So I decided to get one and see what I missed.
This is a PAL SNES, with a few aftermarket mods for improved IQ output etc. It routes into my RetroTink 4K Pro and looks stunning considering its age. Sadly I no longer have my CRTs to try it with.
So far I’ve played through some Super Mario World (amazing) and Donkey Kong Country which, the soundtrack especially is just incredible. I’m surprised just how well these hold up even all these years later.
I also have a copy of Chrono Trigger on the way as I see it recommended so often! If you have any other games you think I should pick up please let me know!

I played this game for the first time just recently and I was baffled by the similarities to Cybernator (actually I used to play Assault Suits Valken, which is slightly superior to Cybernator) - the controls, several weapons, the visual style of the map, even some of the enemy designs are almost identical. I was really surprised about how blatantly this was ripped off, only then I read that parts of the development team were in both projects.
Anyways, Gun Hazard was done by Omiya Soft and published by Squaresoft - makes sense that there's some RPG elements to it. As someone who loves Assault Suits Valken, this is an interesting variation, although ultimately, I must say I prefer the insane over-the-top action combined with just a bit of a story. The narrative in Gun Hazard is quite extensive, there are frequent and lenghtly dialogues, which get in the way of the action and slow the game down, imo. Also, there are several missions that feel like fillers to stretch the length of the game and to let you grind for EXP.
There are at least some design weaknesses that I noticed, e.g.: Twice I ran into sections where I could not progress unless I bought the most recent Vernier Unit (jetpack for your mech, basically), which I guess would be fine in nonlinear exploration games, but seems a bit misplaced here. The thing is, obstacles like these are not at all common here. Also, you need to have a specific level to even be able to buy these items.
I suppose the most annoying aspect of the game is that, although there is no contact damage, exploding enemies hurt you. A lot. That wouldn't be so bad if the enemies would not constantly try to sit on your face, and as a result, you're mostly busy trying to keep a distance from the enemies, which becomes real tedious.
On the positive side, I like the variety in weapons and items, as well as the high number of party members with unique functions, which adds a lot to replayability. I mostly was joined by Clark during my first playthrough and hardly used any primary weapon other than the shotgun, so I guess I will be back for more.
The graphics are beautifully made, in particular the diverse locations with their distinct backgrounds are amazing, as are the light and weather effects. The animations are so smooth, all of this combined is just mindblowing for a SNES game. I also love the fact that you can leave your mech to move around small corridors, like in Metal Warriors, which adds a bit of an exploration element. I avoided this during my first playthrough, since it's mostly deadly lol, but again: replayability.
The music is just terrific, most of you may recognize the composers' names from the Final Fantasy series and from Chrono Trigger. However, comparing it to Valken, the SFX feel like a downgrade.
Anyways, overall, I'm sure I will play it again, although I am much more in favor of action games and therefore am more into Assault Suits Valken. However, since the SNES library was heavily leaning towards RPGs and attracted the players accordingly - meaning the community is probably more interested in RPGs than in action - I am wondering which of the two games you preferred? (Maybe also throw Metal Warriors into the ring, which I did not play yet.)
Moreover, as the game is quite beautifully done, overall well polished, and by no means targeted at a Japanese audience exclusively, I am wondering why it was never released in the west. Probably because it would have required considerable censorship for the American market? In Cybernator, basically one key cutscene was removed - here it would have been more work, maybe, idk. Does anyone know?

I wonder something wants to ask, on the Metal Max Returns for Snes… I notice something and been looking info about (without luck), after using the “Suicide Sword” on a solo Soldier Run, specially on bosses but on units too, find out this… One hit death.
That immediately kills the target, even manage to kill Valdez on the fourth turn, First barely hurts him, one miss and the third cause no damage but the fourth hit instant kill him.
The HQ Salmonella shoot once time, she attacks and kill it on a single blow, similar with Gomez, I came out the Buggy (Yes I was using the Buggy all time, sword can’t be use even inside it) to face it once his tank was destroyed.
And he dies on the first hit, as well other enemies.
Looks this weapon have the chance to insta kill any enemy on attack regardless the Hp left. But only see it on “No mechanical enemies.
Anyone else see it before? I try find info about it, but only found a Faq telling where to get the sword (I already got it)😅

Inspired by recent projects like Griffey30 and others, I created a mod of Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball ,which was one of my favorite games growing up. Recently, I turned that classic into a college baseball project to fill a gap and desire to play a classic with a college baseball twist: Omaha Bound: College Baseball '27.
It's an unofficial fan project, not affiliated with the NCAA, MLB, Nintendo, any school, or the original developer or publisher.
I'd love feedback, bug reports, and to hear which school you take to Omaha first.

Long story short, house pet chewed up cords for both controllers, power and input cables. This happened a while back and just wondering if anyone knows where I can get any of those items that were destroyed. Would really love to get this thing back working so I can play and enjoy this again.

Hello! I recently started an SNES OST restoration project under the name 64kbf. The Lawnmower Man's OST was a blast to work on. If anyone know the exact samples/synth patches used by Allister Brimble, let me know the sources and I can try to rework the current tracks. Enjoy!

Here's an interesting video comparing the hardware architecture of the SNES and other 16-bit consoles.
It takes a detailed look at the technical differences between these systems and their unique hardware designs.
Full English audio and subtitles are available.
What do you think about the SNES hardware compared to other 16-bit systems?

Picked up two of these Imagineer ProPads recently. They're third-party controllers with a built-in LCD and programmable button sequences, plus AUTO and SLOW functions.
They're a bit dirty, and one has quite a bit of yellowing, but both work perfectly.
Anyone here ever owned or used one back in the day? I'm curious how useful the programmable functions actually were.

Very proud of my collection at this moment and wanted to share with everyone. Which of these games is your favorite and why? Also, which game would you add to the collection that isn’t here?

So I don't think this has been posted here yet. I was kind of surprised, but then if you look at their channel, they have like not even two hundred subscribers
So yeah, anyway, this is a super Nintendo homebrew game made by some dudes from France. It looks like it kind of combines like a bunch of different elements from various jrpgs back then. Looks really cool. There really aren't enough good SNES homebrew games.

Hi, I've recently stumbled across a tutorial from Voultar that allows you to flash a translated ROM onto a chip/across multiple chips to an original super famicom cartridge. I'd like to do this, since I'd prefer it to just playing them on a flash cart if I can help it, but all of the stuff in his shop hasn't been in stock for a while. Are there any alternatives?
