The sub is reopened!

I have reopened the sub for public posts, and will be working over the next few weeks to revamp the sub and make sure it is a welcoming environment for pipe smokers to share their pipes and smoke. If you have any suggestions or issues, please send me a ModMail so I can address them!

Air hole bore is nothing to be proud of but so far it smokes well. Got me back into it after 5ish years. I was initially aiming for a straight Dublin shape like Vauen New York 126, but I’m happy where it is atm. Maybe I will reshape later or pick up another block for it. Stem is from a corn cob so it has 6mm filters.

I got my dad (a die hard cigar guy) into pipe smoking. He just returned from a trip to St Louis, and made a detour to the Missouri Meerschaum factory/museum. He gifted me this GORGEOUS Horn Cobbit Shire! Cant wait to give this a go with some PS Nougat😤

Have been dabbling in the English blends lately with Peterson EMP and Nightcap. Loving both, with Nightcap taking the cake though. I have some Quiet night and Chelsea morning on order, what would be some other English blends yall recommend?

Very recently just got into pipe smoking. Here's a couple of pipes I just received yesterday. The one on the right is a used estate sale pipe I bought from an Ebay seller who restores them. The one on the left is new from Pipes and Cigars. Love the Poker style pipes.

Wondering if anyone has any tips?

These have been colored just from smoking them, I probably should have waxed the skull more. It was very wild jump to the darker color. I smoked it for a few months. Put it away for one of my briars, and started smoking the eagle. When I opened back up the case it had darkened up a load. It always had a “spotty” side to it, I don’t know if that portion is just has larger pores or some user error. I probably put 3 bowls a day through them these past few months.

What tobaccos do you most associate with autumn? Spiced Cider, Caramel apples, decaying leaves, cold crisp nights, sitting fireside with a great book, and a strong cup of coffee.

Corn cob upgrade

Hi guys, I bought a corn cob I had one year ago and still have the forever stem, was thinking about mudding it, my question is: should I cut the stem that protrudes in the chimney or keep it in and fill the gaps with mud to level the bottom?

Hope my question is clear English is my second language

#I’m having trouble replying properly, so I’ll add it here instead.

Every now and then, when I want a different flavor, I press the tea into a plug like this.
It used to be a PS400.

#I’m having trouble replying properly, so I’ll add it here instead.
I made it using square aluminum tubing, acrylic plates, and pieces of wood as spacers.

I tighten the vise until I imagine the tobacco leaf cell membranes have ruptured and the resins have started to seep out.

The pressing time varies. Sometimes I even heat the plug on top of my espresso machine. I just play it by ear.

Little penny pipe with some C&D night train.

Very fun little pipe. It’s something I like to pick up when I see them, just to keep around. Put some C&D Night Train in there it’s honestly delicious! I get spicy, sweet, earthy notes like warm autumn leaves. Very pleasant! I definitely recommend.

Question about my first tobacco:

Post image
8 Upvotes

Hello guys.

I'm a complete pipe beginner in search for my first tobacco. I'm interested in sweeter types, so aromatics seem like a good choice, but...

I have heard aromatics are far harder to smoke for beginners and prone to cause tongue bite, and also that they are more carcinogenic because the sugars from aromas turn into aldehydes when burned.

I am interested in the Ashton's Smooth Sailing if I'll go for aromatic and Consummate Gentleman if I go for non aromatic one...

So I ask you, pipers, can, or should beginner begin with aromatics or should I start with a simple non-aromatic type and work my way to aromatics?

Thank you very much for your answers and I'm sorry for any grammatical mistakes or disinformations about pipes :)

Cheers gentlemen, to the days we find ourselves in good company, with a good pipe & a glass of whiskey enjoying good conversation. Thought of this sitting solo in the bar patio next door to the cigar shop waiting for my pipe night #2 to begin. Enjoying the journey so far, but seem to be longing for some good brotherhood. Life is good nonetheless.

What pipe pouch would you recommend that is relatively weather-proof, can hold a small tin's worth of tobacco, pipe cleaner, etc, plus 2 pipes of decent size?

I have this pipe and it doesn't fit in that pouch I linked to: https://us.amazon.com/dp/B015CI1N7I
