I had recently gotten off the bus at the SFU Burnaby campus. Everything was normal at first as I began walking to class and checking my schedule. I noticed someone move amongst the dense fog (SFU is on a mountain so it's often foggy in the morning). I thought it was my friend, so I pursued it, hoping to grab some notes for midterms.
It wasn't my friend though, looking back at me was another person with his outfit, but his eyes were empty. I saw no backpack, and I double-checked to make sure it wasn't a holiday. He didn't stay long, he looked at me and quickly ran into the fog. I pursued out of curiosity, but he was gone.
I continued on with the day, not sure what to think. As I went to my lecture I saw things that seemed out of place for the burnaby campus; small tunnels in the concrete, small perfect pyramids made of sand in the pond, and groves of trees with all their leaves cut off. I would constantly think I saw my "friend" deep in the fog, but I never got a better look at him. I tried to call him whenever I thought I saw him, but to no avail.
I got to my lecture hall and posted on reddit to see if anyone else had found the pseudo-person. There were none. I created my own post telling of the man and asking if anyone had a similar experience. The post was deleted within five minutes. I tried again and the topic was deleted even faster. I received a PM from username "Herobruin" containing one word: 'Stop.' When I went to look at Herobruin's profile, the page 404'd.
I received an email from another student. He claimed the profs can read the student messages, so we were safer using email. The emailer claimed that he had seen the mystery person too, and had a small 'directory' of other users who had seen him as well. They had seen that SFU was littered with obviously strange features as well, and described their mystery person to have no pupils.
About a month passed until I heard from my informant again. Some of the people who had encountered the mystery man had looked into the name Herobruin and found that name to be frequently used by a Dutch professor. After some further information gathering, it was revealed to be the brother of Joy Johnson, SFU's president. I personally emailed Johnson, and asked her if she had a brother. It took her a while, but she emailed me back a very short message.
'I did, but he is no longer with us.'- Joy Johnson
I haven't seen the mystery man since our first encounter, and I haven't noticed any changes to SFU other than that day. I was able to take a picture when I first saw him. Here's the only evidence I have of his existence.
