As the year wraps up: what’s the project you’re most proud of building and why?

Like the title says, instead of what you built or how much money it made, I’m curious what project you’re most proud of this year and why.

Could be a client site, a personal project, something that never launched, or something that made £0.

Any lessons learned?

Would love to read a few reflections as the year wraps up.

Weekend project: Full Mario 64 in Mixed Reality!

Full Mario 64 in Mixed Reality! Running in real 3D natively at 90FPS and also running on my desk! 😋
Opus 5.5 + PICO CLI + Unity CLI combo made it quite straightforward.

Such a bliss to play an oldie at 90 FPS in 3D.

Disclaimer: I own an original physical copy of Mario 64. This project is not associated with Nintendo or PICO.

I accidentally became a dog grooming software company

i accidentally became a dog grooming software company

Back in march my cousin who runs a grooming van asked if i could make her something better than the paper calendar she kept in the glovebox. I built it in lovable over 2 weekends, mostly to stop her texting me screenshots of double bookings

She showed it to 3 other groomers at some trade thing. Then those showed it to more. I never posted it anywhere and didnt have a landing page until july when someone asked where to sign up

Now its 140 groomers, 23 pay $19 a month, and i get feature requests like im a real company. Invoicing, SMS reminders, a field for which dogs bite. One lady wants it to work offline becouse she grooms in a barn with no signal

I have no roadmap. I have a notes app with 60 requests and a day job

Last week someone asked for my company phone number. I gave her my cell and then sat there for a while

I know I saved it somewhere, I just can’t find it. So I built a map for my notes.

Search only works if you remember what to search for. I often save a link without remembering the site or even the title. In a list, it’s as good as lost. On a map, I remember roughly where I left it.

Same reason I remember what I was thinking when I return to a certain rock on a hike: we remember things through their surroundings, not in a vacuum.

So I built Qoyra, a landscape for your notes. Each project or topic is a peak. Height means detail: broad ideas sit low, specific ones climb higher. Each contour line is a level you can open to browse everything on it.

Just type to create a note, then leave it or move it. Link notes into chains you can scroll through in seconds. To delete one, throw it into the sea.

Browsing the map, I often stumble upon notes I’d forgotten. (And yes, it’s dangerously easy to procrastinate by flying around.)

I use it daily. Works on PC and iPhone. It’s a solo project, so expect some bugs.

🗺 Explore the map, no signup required: https://www.qoyra.app/?share=1f9c5acd47f449dcbca5ea922e9d8907

Do you remember old notes by the words, or more by the “where”?

[30 day update] My Codex reset alerts service passed 500 subscribers

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I recently built a text alerts service to ease my Codex usage anxiety called Reset Alerts.

It texts users when resets are announced (with the idea to burn remaining usage before it refills to 100%).

Some of the tasks / workflows when building this:

  • Set up the text channels: SMS in the US + Canada, Telegram otherwise
  • Backdating: scanned Tibo's tweets since April 2025 (when Codex launched) with the X API to backdate all resets and learn how to detect them
  • Prompting: 18 prompt versions to differentiate between a fresh reset, an update on a previously announced reset, and an automatic vs. banked reset. Using the OpenAI API for this
  • Put together an on-time chart: this was inspired by flight on-time percentages, but instead of flights, we show how often resets are on time
  • A calendar tracker for OpenAI's 28-day reset challenge: (currently 23 of 28 days in, with 11 resets and 24 Codex improvements issued).

The 28-day calendar was the most popular of all the pages - according to Vercel Analytics, it received 14,100 visitors in the past 30 days.

The site is at ResetAlerts.com - I know 500 free subscribers isn't life changing, but it feels great to have some positive momentum every day.

Open to any feedback, and will continue posting more updates as the project develops :)

Anyone else building a boring, non-AI project right now?

• Upvotes

Every time I scroll this sub, it feels like everyone is shipping AI wrappers in a weekend.
Meanwhile, I’m over here building a niche site the slow, old-school way. No big Stripe screenshots to flex yet, just late nights and Notion docs. If you're working on something outside the SaaS/AI bubble, what are you building? Would love to see what the rest of us are up to!

I turned my Claude Code token usage into a cozy village builder

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I spend most of my day in Claude Code, and watching the token counter go up felt like wasted dopamine. So I built Token Kingdom: a small plugin counts the tokens of each Claude Code reply and turns them into gold, wood and stone for a 3D village in your browser.

How it works ?

  • You code with Claude as usual, and resources trickle in
  • You spend them on buildings, walls and defenses
  • Monsters raid your village, and your towers fight back
  • Upgrading your town hall unlocks new buildings and spells
  • There are leaderboards, and you can visit friends' villages

Privacy

After each reply, the plugin sends token counts and the model name. It never sends your prompts, replies, code, file names or paths. The plugin is open source: https://github.com/MartySalade/token-kingdom-plugin

Feedback I'd love 🧡

  1. Does it run smoothly on your machine?
  2. Is the progression too slow or too fast?
  3. What's confusing in the first 10 minutes?

Did you ever cut your side project down to one feature?

I spent months on something with sync, sharing, cloud runners, chat... and realized I only use one feature of it every day.

Now I'm tempted to throw the rest away and ship just that.

Has anyone done this?

  • Did the small version do better?
  • Did you ever add the rest back?
  • Or did you regret cutting it?

After my paid clipboard manager went subscription, I built a free, open-source one for the Mac

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

• Upvotes

For years I used a paid clipboard manager. I bought a license, then the developer changed everything: a subscription, a pricier paid version, sold elsewhere and differently. My license stayed stuck on a version from years ago, no updates, no support. After a while I got fed up and built my own. It's my first real macOS app.

It's called encore. ⇧⌘V opens a shelf of your recent copies: text, links, images, files, colors and code, each as a card you can recognize at a glance. Return pastes into the app you were in, Space previews, ↑ opens the full library with search and filters.

Version 0.5 came out today:

- Snippets: ⌘S on any card gives it a name, a language (guessed among 85) and tags. They get their own tab and never expire

- {{placeholders}} ask for a value before pasting

- Favorites and snippets sync between your Macs, peer to peer on the local network, end-to-end encrypted, no cloud

Everything stays local: no account, no subscription, no telemetry. Native SwiftUI + AppKit, 30 languages, MIT licensed.

A few things I learned along the way:

- Pasting into "the app you were in" is harder than it sounds: you have to give focus back to the right window at the right moment

- Without a paid Apple developer account, a stable self-signed certificate is what keeps the Accessibility permission across updates

- Pairing two Macs safely with just a 6-digit code took more reading on ECDH than I expected

Website: https://kamasoutra.github.io/encore/

Install: brew install --cask kamasoutra/tap/encore

Source: https://github.com/Kamasoutra/encore

Not notarized yet, so the first launch needs System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway. Feedback and feature requests are very welcome!

Finally created a tool for my itch

• Upvotes

Hello All,

I have been working recently on a side project, penandsheet.com, and would love to hear your feedback and thoughts.

I have been tracking my monthly expenses since 2019 offline using pen and paper. I always thought of bringing the experience to a digital format. A couple of things I considered before proceeding:

  • No AI to read my personal transactions.
  • No annoying notifications every now and then to note down anything I have spent.
  • No bank accounts to connect and fetch data.
  • No subscription. Just a one-time payment of $4.99 and everything is yours forever.

It's a ready-made Google Sheet you can copy to your personal Google Drive and start tracking right away. Fully private and nobody has access to your data. Simple but informative enough to show you exactly where you stand.

I'd also love to know:

  • Have you tried tracking your expenses before? How was your experience?
  • Is a one-time payment sheet something you'd pay for rather than having a recurring subscription OR free app with ads?

Thank you.

fixed fitness plans don’t care how your week went. i’m building an app where your workout and diet change every day based on your progress

• Upvotes

i was logging food in myfitnesspal and finding workouts on youtube, and neither one knew what the other was doing. it was getting very tedious because i had to sit there and calculate and figure out what i should be doing next every single day

so i built an app where the coach looks at your meals, weight and lifts, and your workout and diet adapt based on that. every single aspect of your diet, the way you trained, and your overall progress will be carefully studied by the coach and it will then give you inputs on what you need to fix and what you need to improve

the app has all the capabilities and features of a calorie and meal tracking app, and also has a a module just for workouts and training, these both are infused together sort of, so they both adapt to whatever is best for you

it’s for people who are tired of following a plan and then having to create a completely new workout depending on the scenario. it’s almost done, and i want to see if people would actually use something like this.

what’s the most annoying part of how you track things right now?

I made an Oregon Trail-style game where you can't play your way out of the racial wealth gap

Sixty to One follows two families from 1865 to 2025. They hit the same events and get the same choices, but one of them faces sourced historical disparities: wage gaps, redlining, smaller inheritances and higher costs for being poor.

Every number in the model is cited. I also built in a check: if you set all race-keyed inputs equal, the gap disappears. Free, no ads, no signup.

System Design Playground. An interactive way to refresh the fundamentals

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone! Sharing System Design Playground, which you might find useful for refreshing system design concepts in a visual, interactive way.

You can build architectures with servers, databases, caches, and queues, increase traffic, and see where bottlenecks appear. It also includes examples and guided lessons covering scalability, availability, and other concepts.

It's a simplified simulation built for learning and experimenting. It runs in your browser, is free, and requires no account.

The code is open source on GitHub. Contributions are welcome, whether that's new scenarios, clearer explanations, or bug fixes.

If you give it a try, I'd love your feedback, especially on what’s missing or could be clearer!

Cheers!

I built a side project that tells me to stop working on my side projects

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

• Upvotes

I'm a freelancer. My whole life runs on Google Calendar: client work, personal stuff, and the evenings I spend on side projects.

This year I did the math: 4 projects launched, none of them really worked. And on top of the money I lost, I noticed something. I was so focused on the next goal that I never took any time for myself. There was always an excuse. No time, no budget, later.

But when I actually looked at my calendar, there were gaps. A Thursday with no meetings. A quiet Friday. A bank holiday right after a free Wednesday evening. Enough to get away for a couple of days, two hours away, without spending much.

So I built PERQO.

You connect your Google Calendar. It only sees when you're busy, never what's in your meetings. When a cheap direct flight lands right on your free days, you get one message: you leave after your last meeting and you're back before the next one. At least 25% under the usual price for that route and those dates, and the price is checked again right before it's sent. 3 messages a week, max.

Not another deal alert. Just the one that says: you can actually go.

Where I'm at: launched today days ago, 0 signups, 0 paying. Departures from 15 cities in Europe, Google Calendar only for now. First deal is free.

What I'd love to know:

  1. Would you connect your calendar to something like this? What would hold you back?

  2. Do you also have gaps in your calendar you never use, or is it just me?

I'll reply to everything, criticism included.

See PERQO

I built SubFlow, a 100% offline Android subscription & free-trial tracker with multi-currency conversion (no account required)

• Upvotes

Hey everyone!

Like many of you, I kept losing track of recurring bills and getting hit by surprise charges from "free trials" I forgot to cancel. When I looked for a subscription manager on Android, most apps either forced me to create a cloud account, linked to my bank, or locked basic multi-currency support behind hefty subscriptions.

So I built SubFlow — a fast, privacy-first subscription and renewal tracker where 100% of your data stays locally on your device.

What it does:

  • Free-Trial Countdown: Dedicated countdown ring for trials so you can cancel before your card gets charged.
  • Smart Renewal Alerts: Get notified 1, 3, or 7 days before any weekly, monthly, quarterly, or yearly bill renews (plus missed-alert catch-up when you open the app).
  • 40+ Currencies with Auto-Conversion: Log subscriptions in their native billing currency and see your true monthly/yearly total converted into your home currency (works offline too).
  • 34+ Built-in Presets & Custom Icons: One-tap setup for Netflix, Spotify, ChatGPT, Perplexity Pro, cloud storage, or fully custom services.
  • Home Screen Widget & True Dark Mode: Check upcoming bills at a glance and export/restore anytime via local JSON or CSV.

Google Play Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.dpdns.alwaysup.subflow

The free version tracks up to 5 subscriptions, and there is a one-time Lifetime Pro option alongside monthly/yearly plans for unlimited tracking, 6-month trend charts, and zero ads. I’d love to hear your honest feedback or feature requests!

I built a Windows utility that copies 20,000 files in 7.7 seconds instead of File Explorer's 3 min 11 s

Hi everyone! I'm an independent developer, and over the last few months I have been working on Saetta, a small Windows utility that copies, moves and deletes files. I'm sharing it because I put a lot of work into it and I'd be glad if someone found it useful.

Why I made it

The idea came from copying folders with thousands of small files: File Explorer took minutes, and I got curious about why. It copies one file at a time, and with small files the time goes more into handling each single file than into actually copying it. I wanted to see how much better it could be done while staying inside File Explorer, without changing the way you use it.

How it works

I wrote a copy engine from scratch in native C++. Before it starts, it looks at the kind of drive it is writing to and changes strategy: * SSD: it copies many files at once. * Hard disk: it writes them in one ordered stream, so the head does not jump back and forth. * USB stick: it writes small files in parallel. Deleting runs in parallel too. I use robocopy only for network folders and folder sync.

The times I measured

On my PC (i7-9750H, Samsung 990 PRO SSD, Windows 11, median of three runs), compared with File Explorer: * 20,000 files of 64 KB, SSD to SSD: 7.7 s vs 3 min 11 s * Deleting 10,000 small files in 2,000 folders: 1.6 s vs 17.8 s * 20,000 files from one external hard disk to another: 37.6 s vs 2 min 38 s I published every measurement, the ones where the difference is small too, like copying a few very large files, because it seemed right to be transparent.

How you use it

  • From File Explorer's right-click menu, on Windows 11 and in the classic menu.
  • If you turn it on, also with Paste, Ctrl+V, dragging files and Delete.
  • The window shows the real speed and the time left, and you can pause.
  • A file in use does not stop the job: it is skipped and reported at the end. ### Free, no ads It is free, with no ads and no account, and it collects no data. There is also Saetta Professional, a one-time purchase for those who want something more, such as verified copies or scheduled backups: it is how I hope to support the project. ### A gift for the first 30

Update: all 30 licences have been claimed, thank you! The link no longer works.

To thank those who try it, I have 30 Saetta Professional licences to give away: the first 30 who open this link get it for free, for good (a Microsoft account is needed).

Thanks to everyone who read this far. If you try it and have any questions, I'm here.

LetterBoxD was complicated to use + UI is not the best => I made my own version of it!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

• Upvotes

My friends introduced me to LetterBoxD and a couple of other movie (and also restaurant) ranking apps and I had some problems with all of them!!

First of all, how should I compare something like F1 movie with something like God Father! They are in different genres! And how should I rate them on the same scale? Even worst, I don't think that we should compare movies and series on the same rankings!!!!!

In addition to that, letterboxd makes it so complicated to use that I don't bother adding half the movies I watch on it.

So I decided to come up with my own version called Cinephilia. In Cinephilia we compare movies head to head and only within their own genre so that we have a fair comparison. I have developed a small recommendation model of my own on top of the app which runs locally (no api, or external AI is used for the recommender and everything is in house) on the devices and recommends movies to the users based on what they have seen. When you search for movies, you can see the description, where to watch, and the rankings of your friends for that movie.

You can keep track of the rankings and the ones you have seen in the cinemas. It also shows record for the actors, directors and studios you watched the most movies from.

I have recently published it for free (no ads, no hidden fees, no in-app purchases, nothing! This is a side project not a business lol)

Feel free to give me any advice that you think would be useful for this app.

You can get it if you like it from App Store from here.

been building opennmind for about 4 months. it's an ai workspace for validating startup ideas before you write code. launch is nov 16

the waitlist is past 800 now which sounds good until you remember nobody on it has paid me a single rupee

i've drafted a $12/mo pro plan and i keep not sending the email. part of me thinks if i ask now half of them leave and i find out the 800 was fake

did you ask your waitlist to pay before launch or wait till they actually used it?

also curious if a cheap founding plan worked better for you than a normal price

10 months ago I turned my grief into a product on this subreddit and a stranger’s DM changed my life. Today I’m one small step from the finish line - and about to lose it all.

• Upvotes

10 months ago, I was at the lowest point of my life.

I’d just lost my dad to cancer. Months earlier I lost my job too - for missing one senseless Zoom meeting while I was caretaking. I was struggling just to survive.

But in all of it, I still found the strength to do the one thing I do best: create.

I designed Pandora - a smart lid that turns an ordinary jar into a self-sustaining little world. I built the 3D model in Blender, rendered an animation of it, put up a landing page, and posted it right here on Reddit.

Then 24 hours happened that changed my life.

The post went semi-viral: 100k views, 1k upvotes, around 300 people on the waitlist. And then a DM. Someone (anonymous at the time) asking a simple question: how much would it take to get this Kickstarter-ready? Days later, he and a colleague - at one of the biggest companies in Silicon Valley - wired me the first money.

An autistic no-one from a country most people can’t find on a map got a life-saving investment based on a single Blender animation. A Christmas miracle, basically.

I promised them 4 review prototypes in 2 months. They said, “Take 3, there are always delays.” I started the very next morning.

They were right about the delays. Tariffs, chip shortages, supplier nightmares. 10 months of around-the-clock work. One sandwich a day (we don’t have ramen over here). But I built a dream team along the way, including someone who’s worked on some of the biggest Kickstarter campaigns there are.

And today, I’m holding the first fully working, virtually production-ready Pandora in my hands.

  • A slick machined, brushed and anodized aluminium case (I’m told it’s aluminum, but I’ll keep spelling it the right way 😄)
  • A gold-plated PCB covered in shamanic symbols (SHMN, read “shaman” is our brand name)
  • A bunch of state-of-the-art sensors and actuators
  • A black glass top
  • 4K HDR Sony camera for timelapses
  • And an ML agent inside that keeps whatever lives in the jar alive and thriving

It’s real. It’s not vaporware. People want it.

So here’s the hard part.

The delays burned through the budget. My angels and investors have already extended my runway three times - and I’m endlessly grateful for that. But the money has hit zero again, and I need a four-digit amount for the finishing touches before the marketing push for the Kickstarter. I asked for a 4th extension. They said no. I don’t blame them. It’s fair. It’s on me to deliver this time.

I’m running on fumes. My ISP cut me off over unpaid bills (I’m burning mobile data to write this). My team’s Google Workspace gets disabled in a matter of days. It genuinely feels like a dream I’m about to wake up from - straight back into last December's hell.

I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I AM at the end of the tunnel. But there’s a thin, invisible, bulletproof wall between me and it. I’m stuck, I’m scared af, and I honestly don’t know what to do next.

So I came back to Reddit - where all of this started. Maybe the Universe gives you one last chance when you’re this close.

I’m linking my original post and photos below as proof it’s all real. If any of this moves you, drop me a line.

Fingers crossed. And thank you for reading.

Sincerely,
Seb

ive been building a supercharged airdrop that works between any devices, from anywhere

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

hey! im a solo dev and i’ve been working on this for about 3 months now. its called cubit.

cubit is a little cube that lives on your devices and lets you send stuff to each other, kind of like a supercharged airdrop. i’ve made him and animated him myself, most of his expressions by hand, and i do all the sound design and music too. its been a lot of fun and I'm releasing a video demo really soon where I show what he’s capable of!

it works between any devices from anywhere. iphone to samsung, pc to mac, all of that works. (the video only shows a mac and a phone, but that’s just the 3D models I had access to)

its a smart sender that knows what you send, so you get the right buttons for what you receive. if you send a link you get a copy button or an open button, so you can send a link from your pc to your phone and just open it straight away.

cubit also has link sharing, so you can share with people who dont have it downloaded. you share it the same way you send to a device, but you get a link at the end that you can send to anyone. and everything you send is encrypted.

i use it a lot with people i work with. i highlight some text or a link i wanna share, send it to their pc, and it pops up on their screen. i’ve found that its actually hard to work without it now...

right now me and my friends are testing it, and im getting close to a beta that’s ready for more people. thats why i’m starting the waitlist now, so i have people to send it to and can see which devices to focus on first.

i’m putting a lot of time into this, so if it sounds interesting at all it would mean a lot if you joined the waitlist and told a friend. i know it’s a bit weird to sign up for something you haven’t really seen yet, but i’m doing everything i can to make it worth it. :)

Here's the waitlist: https://heycubit.com/waitlist/ pick the devices you’ll actually use it on. once you’re in you can invite friends too.

If you wanna start using cubit already today, you can use link sharing here: https://heycubit.com/ it works just like wetransfer. would love to hear what you think, or if you have any questions. any feedback is welcome!
