Here is some old Shumako Art I did during my initial playthrough of Royal when I was trying to adapt the characters to my art style so it is pretty rough

Seeing Makoto hug Ren during the Futaba arc was such an adorable scene and fully settled in my mind that these two where meant for each other

This may be insane but these MCR songs feel really Shumako coded to me

Demolition Lovers- This song from the title alone shows the parallels between the two and their attraction and their comradery and how they complete each other

Famous Last Words- "I See You Lying Next To Me With Words I Thought I'd Never Speak, Awake and Unafraid, Asleep Or Dead" I could end it year

The Only Hope For Me Is You- Again this song shows their connection and how much the other lifts up the spirits of each other

She beams so brightly when she responds "It means a lot hearing that from you". And is that a little smirk I see when he says "It was worth the wait"? 🤭

I also like how they had Ren fan himself to indicate he's talking in this scene. Certainly worth the wait for us Shumako fans to see them both in yukata!

I wanted to write an America-set persona story with a leading couple inspired by Shumako, so I've been writing with the intention of having them meet my OCs and give them advice, both as former(?) phantom thieves and as a happy couple.

I finally got to that chapter, and really wanted share it here. Hopefully that's okay. They currently only appear in chapter 10, but they will return much more as the story progresses. Feel free to skip to the second half of chapter 10 (the header is "Peter Phillips, 2/2, Late night, unknown location") if you don't want to read my OCs doing shit you don't care about 😂.

Naturally, it's Makoto who responds to the best dialogue option (allowing her to openly compliment her man if you choose to see it that way, and I do so choose :P). Haru and Futaba respond to the other two.

For their first Jail, Queen was understandably worried if they did succeed in freeing Shibuya's citizens from Alice's abuse and influence. Jails are different from Palaces and it's their first "job" returning as the Phantom Thieves. Joker reassures her it will be all right. Now it's her turn to support him. When they worry, they worry together and find a way to do something about it.

The game was this close to having the "cliche lost child who the MC and main love interest must look after and subsequently mistakes them as her parents (face it, it's always a little girl for the UwU)" anime romcom scenario. But nope! Chuck Testa Zenkichi Hasegawa.

But seriously this is a nice character moment for Zenkichi. He may be Pub Sec and acts like a shady old man at times, but here we see he's one of the good ones. The concern he shows for the kid (even though he gets no appreciation here 😅) tells Makoto he's a cop who looks out for children, like her father was. She'll reference this later on when she has a talk with Akane. The fact that he sees Ren and Makoto stepping forward together like responsible parents is just icing on the cake.

And everyone else just has to nod in agreement and wait for Joker to say it's Natsume Boss Raid time! Dat how the Phantom Thieves do.
