Milkweed

A few months ago there was two separate requests for milkweed, specifically milkweed vine and common milkweed. At the time my seeds weren't ready but they are now... except I can't find the original posts!

If you wanted common or vining milkweed, I now have some!

You’re a good egg! What does vining milkweed usually climb in nature? That’s a plant I don’t have and could possibly trade seeds for.

Everything. It is incredibly good at climbing, can and will self seed everywhere, and comes up thickly. If it wasn't absolutely loud with visiting bugs humming, fluttering, buzzing for months, I would consider it nearly on par with bindweed or autumn clematis as a vining weed! I will say that it doesn't counter pull like bindweed (ripping apart plants). Each individual milkweed vine will often curl together with its neighbors to make a stronger, thicker rope to reach higher and hold stronger. They climb my 6ft Shepard hooks every year (birds love it!).

But for all the headache to keep it mostly contained and not choking out other beloveds, where it grows is vibrant with insects. My honeybees seem meh on it but native bees, butterflies, and moths go crazy the entire time the milkweed vine is blooming (usually mid June through mid sept for my area).

I’d love some vining MW too if you have enough?
