Hello! I am looking for some feedback on something that happened with my scholarship funding this week.
I received $1,500 in scholarships this semester, split between two scholarships. My university distributes these scholarships in August via email and applies the amount as a credit towards your tuition and fee statement (basically, it's deducted from what you would otherwise owe). My tuition was paid in full on September 1st and was due September 21st, and showed a balance of $0 at that time. I received an email today (October 27) stating I owed the university money, even though I owed nothing just a few weeks ago. They sent me the breakdown of my statement, saying changes had been made to one of my academic (solely GPA-based) scholarships and showed the date of change as October 13th. They removed $500 from my scholarship 6 weeks into the semester, 3 weeks after tuition was due. They are now saying I owe the difference for what they revoked, and that it is due October 29th (this is the first I have heard from them, by the way). Also, my university has a clear policy that if you meet a certain GPA, you are entitled to a minimum scholarship amount. My scholarship no longer reflects the GPA I hold.
I have searched for clear policies on this matter at my institution and across other institutions, but found nothing. To my knowledge, I have not violated any of my terms. Regardless, my amount shouldn't change halfway through a semester, right?
I would love to know if anyone has experience with this or has gone through something similar.
PS. My friend received the same scholarship (different amount but same name) and had no changes incurred to her account. Loo
