Hi! I've been exposed to both kpop and ppop, albeit a bit newer to ppop (casual listener since Go Up of SB19 since ppop songs come up on my OPM playlist sometimes)
And I wanted to ask if my hypothesis is true or maybe I just haven't gone deep into PPOP yet and haven't seen more uglier sides than KPOP (considering this is more famous globally too)
I got curious considering we (filipinos) are probably one of the biggest consumers of KPOP since before, and quite shocked to see the community actually quite lenient to idols now that SB19 and BINI took off really well on international stage.
Even in terms of dating? It's not much of a big deal (or maybe it's just because i'm new?) because afaik fans also acknowledge some members of SB19 allegedly dating, and they seem to be taking them well (on a surface level comments to say the least)
If it IS true, then why? and how? It got me thinking that maybe it's because kpop focuses advertising the group mainly through fanmeetings and heavily rely on fan services? (The way they actually hold their idols' fans to act like a couple lowkey creeps me out)
Meanwhile a lot of PPOP groups have to breakthrough the influx of music first BEFORE entertaining the idea of fanmeetings/CD signings? Even as a solo artist, it's dofficult to gain attention with so much OPM out these days.
Honestly, even with their good voices/dancing, I think SB19 wouldnt have gained this much attention locally if they didnt show off their good lyricism showcased during their MAPA era. It showed that these boys actually ARE something, and not just writing typical songs for the sake of it
What do you think? Discussions and opinions are most welcome! (Enlighten me)
