Weather 🌡️ PSA: IT’S JUST WATER

• Upvotes

Yes, first snowfall. Yes, white stuff coming from the sky. No, DO NOT GO 30 UNDER ON CIRCLE. The entire stretch of boychuk to clarence has felt like a school zone and it’s only gonna get worse if people continue to go 60 in a 90 because of the snow. You won’t crash if you don’t have winter tires on. Please just go the limit, it’s meant to create and maintain a safe flow of traffic and going slower breaks that. I’m all for reducing speed when conditions require it to be reduced but this is 2cm of snow that melted the second it hit pavement. Please, just go 90.

Question ❔ University Bridge Polished?

• Upvotes

Wondering if anyone knows what is going on with the new surface on University Bridge and/or has had the opportunity to see it up close? I drove it yesterday for the first time since it opened, and I noticed that it looks shiny and polished. I assume some type of protectant/sealant was applied to the surface, possibly a methyl methacrylate product or something similar.. but I am genuinely curious about how the traction will be with winter weather arriving. It doesn’t look like it’s got any grip. Has anyone seen the surface up close or tested how grippy it might be with a quick brake check yet?

RCMP says investigators are working to determine if foul play was involved after human remains were discovered inside a vehicle that caught fire south of Pike Lake on Monday.

In the early hours of Oct. 26, Warman RCMP responded to a report of a vehicle fire on O’Malley Road, about six kilometres south of Pike Lake in the RM of Montrose, according to an RCMP news release.

Montrose Fire Department also responded and worked to put out the blaze. Once the fire was out, the RCMP says human remains were found inside the vehicle.

Investigators are working to identify the remains and to determine the nature of the death, police say.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Warman RCMP.

General Saskatoon has changed alot in the last decade.

Wether you are looking at the new neighbourhoods, the rise in immigration, the increase in homelessness, and also closures and relocations of homeless shelters. Its beginning to feel like a real city. When im on the bus I can feel lost in a busy sea of unfamiliar faces. For me its not all a bad thing. But its been dizzying, and im really curious about some things that long time Saskatooners really like about this city's atmosphere. Are there negatives? Positives?

Personally i feel a bigger gap between communities than is comfortable. But ive also really enjoyed my coworkers from different nationalities. Im looking fwd to more indian recipes and currys, as well as working with and hopefully drinking with some decent slavic people. You?

Question ❔ Has anyone tried the City of Saskatoon Adult Swimmer 1 lessons? Are they beginner-friendly?

Hey everyone!

My girlfriend and I are both in our mid-20s, and we're a little embarrassed to admit that neither of us knows how to swim at all. We also have a pretty significant fear of water, especially floating and being in deeper water.

Because of this, we've missed out on a lot of fun activities during summer vacations, and we really want to change that. We're hoping to learn this winter so we can enjoy more water activities next summer. Plus, swimming is an important life-saving skill.

We're considering the City of Saskatoon's Adult Swimmer 1 lessons, but we're wondering how much you can realistically learn from one course.

Would we actually learn to float independently and swim short distances without assistance by the end of Level 1? Or is it mostly about getting comfortable in the water? We're not expecting to become expert swimmers, but we'd love to at least be able to float and do some basic swimming on our own.

Has anyone taken these lessons starting from absolutely zero? Were the instructors patient, supportive, and non-judgmental, especially toward adults who are genuinely afraid of water?

Also, would you recommend Lakewood, Lawson, or another City pool for complete beginners?

Would really appreciate hearing your experiences. Thanks! :)

Question ❔ House builders

My sister just lost her house to a fire. She’s just started working with the insurance adjuster and will make a decision on rebuilding on the same lot vs cashing out and buying a house elsewhere in the city.

If she was to rebuild, who are reputable house builders she should be considering (or which ones should she stay away from)?

Not looking for developers who throw up multiple houses in new neighbourhoods, as those are likely focused on slapping cookie cutter projects up quickly and moving on to the next “phase”. Would prefer recommendations on what will likely be a custom home builder.

Question ❔ Issues with Sasktel this morning?

• Upvotes

Just wondering, anyone else having issues with there Sasktel wireless this morning. I was having issues with an app and then opened a different app to test if it was just the app and it wasn't working. Then I tried to send a couple of text messages and it wouldn't sent them. It says I had service but nothing was working. I'm on wifi at work now, that's how I'm sending this because my internet and service aren't working again. It's been really spotty/ in and out all morning. There is nothing about it on Sasktels pages so just wondering if it was just me and my phone or if a lot of people were having problems this am.

PSA 📢 Do you know how much the province is providing for the Affordable Rental Development Program?

For those that don't know, the Rental Development Program (RDP) provides one-time capital funding to assist in the development of affordable rental housing units for households with low incomes.

5 million. For the whole province. To build capital projects in affordable housing.

5 million. For Regina, Saskatoon, NB, PA, La Ronge, Yorkton, Swift Current, Melville, La Loche, Sandy bay, Cumberland House, etc. etc. etc.

So everyone knows we have an affordable housing crisis and this is the money that they are putting towards affordable housing developments??

Putting into perspective they spent 135 million on expanding a remand centre in Saskatoon.

Question ❔ Looking for eletronics for an Scholarship

I am participating in the Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) - 2026 Scholarship Competition. For this I have to collect phone, laptops, computer, printers, ect, but not TV, and holdhouse appliances. They can be of any age, or broken. I've posted in FB groups, emailed companies, repair shops, and have an instagram for this. But kinda come to stop with collecting items. I was wonder if there are any other place that will donate/recycle eletronics for this project.

Question ❔ Vintage camera sales

I have a rather large collection of old cameras and photography equipment that I no longer use and am thinking of selling. Is there anywhere in Saskatoon that might be a good place to try selling them or find people who are interested in buying such things?

All I’ve really thought of so far is listing them on marketplace (which can be a pain), Don’s photo has/had a little consignment area, or sending them to auction.

Question ❔ Haircut for someone with autism

Hello friends! I’m looking for recommendations for a hairdresser who would be comfortable cutting my 6 year olds hair. He has non verbal profound autism and can be a bit wiggly, so someone who is patient and willing to work with his sensory needs would be amazing!
A family member has always cut his hair, but they’ve since moved away. He generally does pretty well with haircuts, especially with his sensory tools, so I’m hoping to find someone who has experience with kids who have additional needs.
If you know of anyone in Saskatoon or the surrounding area, please let me know! We’re happy to travel a bit out of the city if needed. Thanks so much!
