Use this thread when you are selling, trading, giving away, or looking for any items and/or services. Please be descriptive, post any relevant photos of the item you're selling or looking for, and list the price or budget.
Pro-tip: there are many "buy nothing" and neighborhood-specific groups on Facebook and Nextdoor that can be used to give away or find free items near you. You may find more luck on those social networks than here on Reddit and are more likely to deal with actual local users.
BE AUTHENTIC AND SAFE: Falsely leading on another Redditor is grounds for being permanently banned from this subreddit. Please remember not to post personal information about yourself or others and exercise caution when privately messaging with anyone you do not personally know or trust. Consider a neutral, public location if you plan on meeting to exchange an item in person.
HIGH RISK OF EVENT TICKET SCAMS: Users seeking to sell or purchase tickets of local events are seeing a significantly-increased risk of being scammed. If you receive a private message from a user who hasn't interacted in this subreddit before, you are very likely speaking with a scammer.
NO PROHIBITED TRANSACTIONS: The posting of prohibited goods or services is strictly against Reddit's TOS and are subject to removal by our moderators and/or Reddit's admins. Please report any comments that appear to violate this policy for further review.

Reddit, what did you do to my boy, Jim?
I wandered into the "clock shop on Patterson," and ended up speaking with the owner, Jim, for a while. Clockworks is the shop name. During our conversation, Jim kept bringing up a Reddit post. It upset him.
I dug deeper and it turns out the reddit post was about a customer interaction he had with a "wallnoodle." They were puzzled by Jim's style of business and asked others to share their experiences. As is with reddit it led to stories from more people talking about Jim.
Jim KNOWS clocks.
Jim KNOWS watches.
Jim does not know the Internet.
It didn't seem fair that there's a conversation about Jim where Jim can't respond. So, here's a video where Jim responds. In his own words. We went through every comment and he responded to each one.
Jim wants to review everything before I post it so this video is only a response to that specific interaction. I'll edit the rest of the responses, follow-up with Jim, and post the each later for you all to feel included.
My thoughts: If you've ever met Jim, you know he is a genuine person with a passion for his craft. The post seemed pretty one-sided, except for one beautiful Redditor. If anybody has any good stories about Jim, I'd be more than happy to read him back your replies. Better yet, visit his shop and tell him in person.

With the popularity of cocktails like the Last Word and Verdant Lady and those freaks in Chicago that drink it straight Chartreuse has been nearly impossible to find consistently.
That's why I'm thankful for Trial and Error (Bombolini's distillery) for helping fill that void. Is it as good as the OG? No. Do you have to call and visit all the ABC stores in a 25-mile radius every day for a chance to get it? No.
How does it stack up? It's a little more alcohol forward, less sweet, and has a different herb/spice profile. I feel like they've tweaked the recipe since they started making it and it only gets closer to the original.
So, if you want to make a Last Word at home and need a substitute in a pinch this is my go-to. As long as its in a cocktail it's basically the same thing.

Everybody loves a good vampire story in October.
But this particular tale doesn’t begin in Victorian London or New Orleans. It began in 1925, with the collapse of a train tunnel beneath Richmond’s historic Church Hill neighborhood.
Beth Houlihan, Haunts of Richmond president, shares the tale countless times with tours every Halloween season.
“The story basically goes, the collapse happens, a group of people hear the collapse happen because it would have rumbled through Shockoe Bottom,” Houlihan says.
The tunnel collapses on a work train and steam locomotive with people inside. Witnesses run toward the tunnel to lend aid, and they reportedly find two men outside.
“One is laying on the ground, absolutely filthy,” Houlihan says. “It looks like he’s just crawled out. Another gentleman is very impeccably dressed, he’s bending over the gentleman on the ground, it looks like he’s giving medical attention.”
According to the story, the man stands and turns to the group slowly, giving them a toothy smile.
“And they notice his teeth are a little pointy, and there’s some blood coming down the corner of his mouth,” Houlihan says.
They scream “vampire!” And the well-dressed man takes off, running across town to Hollywood Cemetery in Oregon Hill where they see him flit into a mausoleum.
As the story goes, the vampire enters the tomb of William Waltham Pool, a man who had already been dead for a decade. Pool had feared being buried alive.
“So when he had his tomb commissioned over at Hollywood Cemetery, he had a trick door put on it — so if he were to wake up in his tomb he could let himself out without a problem,” Houlihan explains.

I just started learning left handed guitar this summer but had to stop lessons bc of the economy. I would love to meet like minded peeps and try and cover a song with a group of other beginner/nice-to-beginner musicians.
I’m into all types of music, probably start with a Tom Petty song bc they’re so good/simple. But also open to suggestions!
Heads up, we are gonna sound terrible for a little bit but it would be a fun adventure.
Feel free to comment or direct message if interested. Let me know what instrument you play and contact info. Thanks!! 🤘 🎸 🔄

Apparently I missed the memo this was going into effect. There's no other option to add money to her account online, except with a card. So dumb.
"Parents can avoid fees by delivering a check or cash directly to the School District."
This is a combo post for me to complain, but also a heads up to any other parents who have their account on auto pay (which is how I found out about the fee) and want to avoid it.
I'm gonna find somewhere/someone to submit a request to at least have an ACH option online.

TIL that quite a few garages in Richmond do not have security cameras. This is phenomenal news for thieves and vandals. But this is also news that residents should be aware of. This particular one is on South Colonial Ave (behind the Byrd Theater). There are security cameras all over Carytown (ring cameras, businesses, etc.) but in the parking garages, most of them have none.

Get cozy this fall with Skip the Small Talk - it’s a chill, sincere event focused on connection! We will be at Triple Crossing (Fulton).
It’s a guided conversation event—think speed-friending vibes, but calmer and more intentional.
You rotate through short conversations with prompts that skip past surface-level small talk. It’s structured enough to make it easy, but relaxed enough to feel natural.
Most people come alone. The crowd tends to be thoughtful, open, and just… normal humans who want more community.
Here’s the link if you’re curious:

They're looking for a business to take over their existing lease. Sad day for Northside 😭 Can't say I'm too surprised though, compared to Spotty Dog or Scoops I always felt the service and execution was lacking.

I have a neighbor (in Highland Springs) who is in her mid 60s. She is a smoker but she has COPD and is on oxygen. Are there any good local resources to help her stop smoking? It’s such an expensive habit and each cigarette she smokes is taking weeks off her life
Also she can’t find work. She has some dings in her past record that make employers reluctant to take a chance on her. And her health isn’t great so she can’t do anything strenuous.
She is living off a very small disability payment and has 3 other adult relatives living rent free in her house (which she owns but it isn’t paid off yet). She tries to sell stuff to make ends meet but what she really needs is a job. But nobody wants to hire a disabled 60+ year old with a criminal record.
I’m trying to help her as best I can but I have already sent her $70 and spent $50 on dog food for her just this past week and my husband is gonna be pissed if I send her any more. I’m sending her links to local organizations that may be able to help her but I’m not sure if she will actually reach out to them or if she does idk if they can actually help her. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks!

The property in question, at 5706 York Rd. (Libbie and Gove) currently offers $950 for a two-bedroom apartment...
Center Creek Homes has sought to buy the property in order to build eight high-end townhouses that would be marketed for over $1 million each.
Any buyer would have the option to include a small accessory dwelling unit in the footprint.
Initially, the developer said including the ADUs could help incorporate some affordability into the plans, although CEO Dan Magder last week conceded “it may have been a little too cute” to characterize them that way.

Hey YOU 🫵🏻
Yes YOU!
Go do your best today. You’ve got a brand new day to do something good.
Your assignments, should you choose to accept them:
1) Wear something that makes you feel good.
2) Pay someone a compliment.
3) Drink some water.
4) Create something today, even if it’s in your mind, in the clouds, on a post it, or a haiku.
5) Thank someone you feel doesn’t get enough thanks—a barista, the office admin, a toll booth attendant, your partner, heck, reach out to the person who helped you in school with your homework.
6) Look for beauty in an unexpected place. Flowers in cracks in the pavement, fall leaves in a parking lot, the color of a car next to you in traffic could all be beautiful!
7) Eat something you enjoy.
8) When it’s time to rest, do so thoroughly. Don’t half ass it.
9) As you let your body relax, remind yourself you did your very best.
10) Take a deep, deep breath… and release!
You are loved, RVA! 💙

Omw to work this morning (6am) there were at least 5-10 police cars by Carolina Ave and Young St; was curious if anyone knows what was up? The street wasn’t blocked but two police cars were haphazardly in the road making it a little difficult to get by.

My understanding from the various designs that balance cars/bikes/pedestrians in many of these situations, not just a major bridge reconstruction, is emergency vehicle transport systems of speed is a key factor/constraint in design. Am I wrong to assume that emergency vehicle transport systems of speed will be affected as the Mayo Bridge is reconstructed? I'm curious how these emergency transport systems function during long-term construction. Definitely not trying to reduce emergency response time, but genuinely concerned if long term master plans of emergency response is a variable in this decades-long project with regards to having a physical barrier between people and giant machines. Basically asking how often fire trucks and ambulances need to go around traffic across rivers in the age of 2030-2040 vs how often people might get hit by a machine while biking, skating or walking across the bridge. The advantage people in cars have is a built-in protection layer. I wish people not in cars had that layer. anD not trying to be a smartass but fire trucks and ambulances can be redesigned to suit the needs of the where people are. We are discussing a bridge for the 2030's.
