Hey r/RunningShoeGeeks — I'm Stephan Scholten, VP of Product for Running at adidas. Footwear and apparel both sit in my world, so a lot of what you obsess over here is what I spend my days on.

Long-time lurker, occasional poster. I come here to see what you're loving, what's frustrating you, and — honestly — for the odd gear tip too. Some of you know these shoes better than the spec sheets.

I'm German, and running is my biggest love right after my wife and kids — so this isn't a job I fell into, it's the one I wanted. 13 years at adidas, the last 10 of them in Running. Best brief in the building.

I'll be here for the next hour — 17:00–18:00 CEST (16:00–17:00 BST / 11:00–12:00 ET) — to answer everything I can on our running footwear, the Adizero range especially. Fire away. If I don't know something, I'll pull in the person who does, and we'll group similar questions to move faster. Let's go.

Unreleased/Prototype Megablast 2: First Impressions

Upper same volumne mostly, so width issues may persist for some, the upper material is better in the front so I lease your toes can actually try and move upwards unlike the OG. Material feels closer to the SB3.

Ride is softer for sure, noticeably so. Stability still quite good, traction seems the exact same as the og, the weight is probably going to be a little bit lighter, but feels pretty similar on the foot.

The rear solar flare is going to be interesting. I’m going to see how it feels on a longer run, but I might be able to provide some extra support to heel strike, although I never found the OG to be unstable.

News Adidas set to make changes to Adios Pro 5

In case you didn't see, the Men's health review of the Adios Pro 5, claims Adidas confirmed they will extend the outsole coverage to mitigate the wear some people experienced with the model.

"We’ve made some small changes to the latest Pro 5 model to address an issue with cosmetic color wear that has been affecting a small number of runners,” a rep shared. “Runners can expect the same high performance and experience, but with an extended outsole for extra durability to keep the shoe looking its best. In terms of what the change was, the rep specified that there have been “some minor modifications to the LIGHTTRAXION outsole to provide more coverage and therefore reduce any risk of cosmetic color abrasion."

The thing that stood out for me is that they’re still not admitting that in some cases it was more than cosmetic wear. I also wonder how much this controversy will affect the shoes popularity.

First Run Karhu Fusion 5.0 first impression

About me: 28M, 5'11, 155 pounds, 70-80 miles per week, 1:23 half PR. Easy pace is around 7:30-45 per mile right now. I’ve always been interested in trying Karhu since I work at Fleet Feet and we’re the only store in the US that physically carries their shoes. Finally got the Fusion to add to my already way-too-crowded trainer rotation (Novablast 5, 1080 v15, Launch 12, Mach X 2, Mizuno Sky Prime, UFO, Sonicblast and an Alphafly and Vaporfly I don’t use for races anymore). Did 8 miles in them today. I’ll organize my thoughts below (TLDR, loved them.)

Fit is pretty much true to size in men's 8.5. Toebox is quite roomy, which I enjoyed. Lockdown was secure all throughout the run, laces were flat and nicely textured. I walked around in them for a couple hours at work to get used to them and I thought the tongue and instep were a bit shallow at the time, but had no issues on the run, didn't feel cramped at all. Could feel my left big toe rubbing against the end of the shoe for the second half of the run. Not enough to reeeaaaalllllyyyyy annoy me and I was wearing pretty thin socks anyway. And honestly, with how big my rotation is, I'm only gonna be wearing these once or twice a week, so I can't ever see it becoming a problem.

They're already some of my favorite shoes aesthetically (come on, there's a bear on the heel tab). Heel and tongue have plenty of padding, nothing to complain about as far as upper comfort. I did read a couple reviews online that mentioned they warm up pretty easily. It's only 60 degrees where I live right now so this wasn't an issue tonight, but I see what those people meant. There are no ventilation holes at all. And considering the color way I got, I doubt I'll be using these much in the summer.

Specs: Karhu claims 9.8 oz and a 33-27 mm drop. I didn't feel much reason to dispute those, though they felt slightly thicker+taller than 33 mm. Midsole is beaded ATPU with a fulcrum located near the midfoot that's meant to be more propulsive than supportive like it is in other Karhu models. This is not a soft shoe. I'd probably compare it to a less-aggressive Azura or a lower-profile Hyperboost Edge. The rocker is there but much more subtle, and the ATPU + fulcrum provides a ton of pop. I felt like the shoe wanted me to keep increasing my turnover the deeper I got into my run. They're probably too heavy to use for track sessions but they're basically as fast as I ever need from a daily trainer. If you like ground feel, you'll probably hate this shoe because there is pretty much none. But I enjoyed the strong energy return, shock absorption and never bottomed out like I might in a softer shoe. Their thickness/firmness makes me optimistic that I'll get a pretty long life out of them. My arch felt nicely cradled as well.

I ..... think it's appropriately priced at $170? It feels like it sits somewhere in between a standard daily trainer and a premium trainer. If you love a fast, rolling sensation but think the Fuelcell Rebel is too soft/the Azura is too unforgiving/anything like that, definitely worth checking out.

First Run Endorphin Speed 6

Endorphin Speed 6

YOWANA IS A HATER! (jk, but now that I have your attention)

Reviewer profile: 28M, 175 lbs, flat-ish wide-ish feet, mild pronator, loves long walks on the beach

Other shoes: Li Ning RH9U, Dynafish, Azura, Sonicblast 1, SC Rebel, Vomero Plus, Endorphin Trainer, Endo Pro 4, Evo SL

First run thoughts on the Saucony Endorphin Speed 6

Fit: I tend to gravitate toward Saucony as they seem to have the fit dialed for my foot type. This shoe is no different. However, the fit is different than the Azura. This is maybe *slightly* wider than the Azura, but definitely shorter. My issue is usually shoes squeezing the outer knuckle of my midfoot opposed to being too short. The ES6 was the first time I put on a shoe and felt like width was fine, but internal length was on the short side. It’s definitely shorter than Azura, but I’m happy with the fit overall.

Upper: The upper to me feels like if the Azura were made out of more spandex type material. Maybe more snug but also more conforming which is nice for a speed oriented shoe. I prefer this over something like the dynafish that is more anatomical, where I feel like my forefoot is sliding around the forefoot of the shoe in corners. Heel lockdown was great here also.

Midsole and feel under foot: I was instantly surprised and pleased with this. Yowana blasted this for being a brick. That’s not my experience at all. PBX seemingly delivers what Saucony said. A bouncier PB. I’m sensitive to impact absorption under the balls of my feet, and I noticed immediately that this had a much more substantial underfoot feel than the stack might suggest. Underfoot, this feels closer to a 6mm drop, while the Azura feels closer to a 10 to me. My most similar feeling shoe in the forefoot was surprisingly the Dynafish. The Dynafish feels slightly spongier and more airy, while the ES6 feels more dense and bouncy. Versus the New Balance SC rebel, this is significantly firmer in the heel, but much more substantial and bouncier in the forefoot. The SC rebel to me feels significantly more than its stated 4MM drop. Overall I would say this is softer and more responsive than the Azura, if the Azura was too firm for you.

Geometry and Stability: I think this is where Saucony shines, and why the Azura has become a cult classic despite its “firm” foam. I think the ES6 provides a similar geometry to the Azura, but starts the forefoot rocker later (which I prefer). Shoes with very early forefoot rockers (NB SC rebel) are not my cup of tea. The shoe feels very stable but non-intrusive. Dynafish has been touted as a stable evo sl, and I can see that. But on occasion the Dynafish feels a little sloppy to me as the upper can feel unstructured and, while the medial midsole does have some upper flare to it, doesn’t have much foam filled in. This leads me to feeling like I sometimes spill over the shoe inwardly. The ES6 doesn’t have as much height on the medial sidewall, but does feel like it has a wider base. The Dynafish feels like I’m on the shoe, where the ES6 feels more like I’m in it.

TLDR - it’s nice. Powerrun PBX is a nice upgrade, but it’s not a totally new experience. It’s substantial feeling in the forefoot if you’re sensitive to that. Slightly shorter fit than the Azura. Upper is nice and locked in.
