Watch PPF
I just got my hands on this 40mm rhodium yachtmaster, it has a few scratches but nothing to major and it’s still in a very good condition, should I do the watch PPF or should I just wear it as is, getting scratches and dings along the way?
I want to keep looking as new and fresh for as long as possible

it will stop the bezel getting scratched while you’re being pegged.
Please don’t put ppf on it

Please do not get watch PPF for such a beautiful watch. Just wear your damn watch.

PPF is plastic covers on grammas couch. No. It’s a Rolex, it will look good for a long time because it’s well made. The dings you get is life lived.
If you want a new looking watch in 10 years, buy a new watch.

Don’t as all the scratches will be cleaned up during the service anyways for $80. It is a little price to not enjoy the watch as is for 5-7 years.

That dial looks so clean, the dark face with the steel bracelet is a classic combo. I would say just wear it and let it get the small marks, a watch like this tells a story with every scratch. The PPF thing feels like putting plastic on a couch, yeah it protects but you never enjoy the real texture. My dad had a watch he kept perfect in a box for years and when he finally wore it daily he said he wished he started sooner. The date window at 21 is crisp too, enjoy it.

I used ppf before. Look good for abt 1 to 2 yrs. Then u need to replace it. But as first timers, u can try it. Experience it first. No harm anyways. I removed the ppf off my ap and i didnt look back. We starr somewhere

JFC. I am a bit anal about my watches but this takes the cake. Buy a G-Shock beater and wear your nice watches with care.

What is PPF?

Paint Protection Film. It’s a transparent thermoplastic urethane film, normally used on vehicles and applied to a car’s exterior.

I have PPF applied on mine. Looks like most folks here diss PPF but I prefer to keep my YM looking as clean and polished as possible. Not to mention the Platinum bezel being more susceptible to scratches compared to the ceramic ones of the Subs or GMTs. Just Google images of well worn YMs and you’ll see the state of some beaten up bezels.
Just choose one that is of precise cut and of good quality. You won’t even notice it unless you look very closely. I have shown it to ADs who did not spot the PPF at all.

If you’d like to get PPF, you should get it done for your peace of mind. Don’t listen to salty folks that are against it in this subreddit.

PPF is like driving a flatbed with a Ferrari on it, and bragging to everyone that you own a Ferrari. All it does is scream “I can afford to pay for it, but I can’t afford to drive it.” I don’t wear watches to impress others but if you do, PPF signals the opposite of what you want it to.
Watch wear is part of the cost of ownership. If you cant stomach the wear, you can’t afford to own the watch. You’re better off getting a watch you actually enjoy wearing without a cheap tacky condom on it.
PPF can also cause strange looking wear, as the trapped debris causes wear on the edges, so parts of it will look scratched but the other parts will look pristine. This calls more attention than a watch that was just used normally.
