Mid-level “TypeScript” devs out-earn senior “JavaScript” devs - remote contract rates by stack, seniority and region (Q3 2026)

Disclosure: I work at Lemon IO, a contract dev marketplace. We publish anonymized rates from our active contracts, and I pulled the JS-ecosystem numbers into one table because the stack gaps surprised me.

These are developer hourly rates (what devs earn, not what clients pay), juniors excluded, Q3 2026 snapshot.

What jumped out:

The label matters more than I expected. A mid-level TS dev’s median beats a senior “JS” dev’s. Some of that is probably who tags themselves as plain JS rather than a pure skill premium, but if your profile still says “JavaScript developer,” it’s worth a look.

Node has the highest ceiling: $60 for strong seniors, vs about $50 almost everywhere else.

Angular and Vue seniors sit about $10/hr below React, Node and TS seniors.

Location beats seniority by a mile. A US senior React dev’s median is $79 vs $44 in Europe/UK, while going from senior to strong senior in React only adds about $5.

Caveats, because they matter: this is one network, weighted toward Eastern Europe and LatAm, so the global medians will look low if you’re US-based, and the US figures come from a smaller pool. One contract can count under several stacks. Strong-senior samples are small (Angular’s is about 14 contracts). Treat it as one data point, not the market.

Does this match what you’re seeing? Curious whether Vue/Angular folks see the same gap outside marketplaces.

I'm a 19-year-old backend developer from Nigeria, and I'm currently trying to find a way to start earning through remote work while continuing my education.

My main focus is backend development. I've been learning and building projects using technologies such as JavaScript, Node.js, Express.js, and PostgreSQL. I'm working to improve my skills, build real-world projects, and become a better developer.

My goal is to work with international clients or a company where I can contribute, gain real-world experience, and grow as a developer.

However, I'm finding it difficult to figure out where to start. Many remote jobs require years of professional experience, and it can be discouraging when you're trying to get your first opportunity.

I got fed up with being rejected from AI training/annotating jobs, so I made a site that aims to make the search easier

Hello, due to having trouble finding the right places to apply and not really knowing how to pass and do an assessment in the AI Training/Annotating Space I decided to build with a site with loveable that is supposed to make the process easier.

I list job offers with a relatively high hiring volume from multiple companies, so would it therefore be easier do diversify the places to apply at and actually get accepted.
My idea behind that was to help with finding the right places to work but also help with the application process. I therefore upload company reviews and also guides on how to pass assesments.
The job listings include entry work positions such as normal generalist work but also expert work positions (Software engineer, PhD, etc.).

Backend developer (Node, NestJS, AWS) looking for a remote role, C2 English

I work with Node.js, NestJS and TypeScript. On AWS I use Lambda, SQS, SNS and S3, and for data PostgreSQL with Prisma. I've also used Redis, RabbitMQ and Docker.

In my projects I built async payment processing, Stripe, Mercado Pago and PIX integrations, webhook signature verification, and protection against double charges. I also have a marketplace with checkout built with React, Next.js and NestJS.

Hello, I have gotten really annoyed by constantly getting rejected after literally spending hours applying, doing assessments, and verifying my identity and then getting rejected or not even hearing back. I therefore decided to make my own site where I list job offers from multiple companies.

I also post tips on how to pass assessments and reviews of different companies in that space. No sign-up or anything like that required.
