Java Edition Help w build please

Im making a dropdown base w the new sulfur and only want it to be 1 block hole. cause its a drop i cover up the geyser and add water so i dont take dmg but i wanna use a target block for it, what am i missing?? why is it a dubble activation

The observer us detecting the dust getting powered and unpowered. Not sure why you need an observer there in the first place but if you do, you have to put the signal through a monostable first

its to turn any ''permanent'' redstone change into a temporary one, basically so no matter what way the lever gets pulled it works

In that case you can just replace the observer with a monostable circuit
