Egg retrieval day 😱🥹
My wife’s egg retrieval is tomorrow morning (Australia)!
So incredibly nervous, anxious and excited all rolled into one. She’s at a risk of OHSS so they’re doing a freeze-all cycle (which lowkey sucks because we wanted to do a fresh transfer but can’t now, but also glad they’re taking the steps to look after us - another dip in the rollercoaster that news was).
What are some things that helped you post retrieval? Any tips??
Anyone else doing egg retrieval tomorrow and going through the same timing?
Xx

I also did a freeze all because of OHSS risk and ended up feeling ok with the slight delay. We were able to start stims on my next cycle and did an FET with no complications!
I basically just took 2 days off work and rested the whole time. It was nice to not have to worry about anything else. Salty snacks and hydration are key. I had a large number of eggs retrieved and not the best reaction to the general anesthesia, so having plenty of time and some pampering from my wife was amazing.
Best of luck to you!

My wife was also at high risk for OHSS and was given some post meds to help with it (ask about it if they haven’t said anything). Lots of patience because hormones can be all over the place so suddenly, heat packs/plug in heating pad, and warm baths can help a lot!

Laxatives! I was so constipated and bloated, it was incredibly painful in combination with the cramps, like my entire abdomen was rocks. Laxatives helped a lot, also appreciated hydralyte, coconut water, heat pack, snacks. Ended up taking 4 days off work.

Best wishes to you and your wife! I did a retrieval in August and also had to do a freeze all due to OHSS risk. I was so disappointed about not doing a fresh transfer. We’re finally able to proceed next week but it’s felt like a lifetime!
I was a bit bloated for a couple of days but my recovery was really easy considering I had a lot of eggs retrieved. Keep hydrated, lots of salty, nutrient dense food (I had lots of soup) and take it easy for a couple days. I hope all goes well!
