Discussion The new B42.22 update has some other great QOL features that aren't just ladders!
Haven't seen many people talk about the bugfixes and QOL mentioned outside of the ladders, so I wanted to point out a few big ones!
- Crowbars can open windows/doors (some differences compared to the Common Sense mod and other similar ones)
- Can push zombies away when carrying stuff in both hands
- You can now walk while ripping clothing/sheets, opening boxes of bullets, removing/inserting batteries, and taking cigarettes from a pack (plus others)
- Funnels now have an actual use!
- "Cut Down Tree" action grants Strength XP again (was bugged)
- Finally, one that perplexed me for a long time, pillows now grant good sleep comfort when on a SE bed corner (again, bugged)
Highly recommend reading the full list, there's some really great stuff here.

Discussion Found a few skill books decluttering our basement!
Cleaning out some nooks and crannies at my mother in law’s house and found these gems from her father. He was an engineer and avid home improvement guy, so lots of shelves and things all around, including a very sweet workbench.

Discussion NPC mods made me realize how much Project Zomboid is missing
I’ve been playing with NPC mods lately and I genuinely think it’s one of the best things I’ve added to my game.
I used to spend days building a base, collecting weapons, food and everything I could find, only to get bored once I had enough supplies. There wasn’t really much to worry about anymore.
Now I’m actually thinking about protecting my base. I don’t just build walls to keep zombies out, I want to be ready in case other survivors show up. Even things like forged armor and bulletproof vests finally feel worth using.
It’s still pretty rough sometimes, especially the AI, but I can overlook that because of how much it changes the experience.
I love PZ, but I’ve always felt like something was missing from its world. Knowing you’re not alone out there makes such a difference.
I really hope Indie Stone delivers on NPCs because the potential is huge. Even these unfinished mods already make me want to play longer than usual.

Can't throw molotovs downstairs
so I made myself the molotov and threw me down the the ladder since I set myself on fire anyway.
Thought you could use the ladders to throw molotovs off buildings now. But you either hit the tiny walls surrounding the buildings, since zomboid counts every little wall as full wall, but even throwing molotovs from the part where the ladder is didn't work. Set myself on fire trying and threw myself into the horde - even the house alarm was going off. I regret nothing!

My longest game for a while and the longest I've ever gone without finding one, I am in hell.
My new hobby is driving around praying for a roadside sledgehammer because every building, construction site, and garage is picked clean.

Modded I made a girlfriend mod (in the spirit of Kate)
Playing alone always felt too scary to me, so I made Emily, an NPC companion for Build 42.
She follows you, fights zombies with you and carries up to 20 kg of materials. When you drive a car she gets in the passenger seat and you talk with each other.
If you mark a place as home and leave her there, she drags away bodies, cleans up the blood, keeps the fire going and cooks. When her chores are done she reads, knits or sits by the fire, and she comes over to chat when you are home.
She has over a thousand lines of dialogue that change with how things are going. Her menu is on K, or D-pad up on a controller.
I balanced her for Insane population. Feedback and bug reports are welcome.

Edit: Wow, this post got way more attention than I expected, thank you all! I made this mod for myself, so it's really nice to see it resonate with other people too.
A few things kept coming up in the comments, so I made an update for them. You can now change her look, name and gender in the sandbox options, so it works as a boyfriend mod too if that's what you want. In game you can change her name, look and clothes from the radial menu. If you put clothes in her inventory she'll wear them, and you can also take off what she's wearing.

Discussion Just lost my longest run ever (3 months). Try and guess what killed me.
Here's a hint: It wasn't a zombie
Edit: No one's got it yet, in a hour or so I'll update this with what actually killed me. I'm still pissed off
Edit 2: A couple people got it: Fucking ram. Was fixing my car, pretty overloaded, and literally out of nowhere a ram runs up and just tackles me, killing me instantly. I might need to take a break from this game

Discussion A complete tier-list of advanced recipes
Advanced recipes all provide the same nutrition boosts, they only differ by the ingredients they will accept. Here's my exhaustive tier-list!
Stew tier
Highest diversity of ingredients in the game, can turn a dead rat, a can of dog food and rain water into a full meal, you can split it into bowls to share with your friends, reduce the cooking time and even eat with a spoon to maintain the illusion of civilization.
A tier
Soup - Very similar to stew, doesn't accept some forms of meat (bacon, beef, dog food), but does accept fish roe and a few plants.
Fruit salad - Niche recipe, the only one which accepts berries, fruits and canned fruits. Can be made with a bowl while foraging
B tier
Salad - Niche recipe, a limited list of ingredients. Can be made without a fire, but you lose the +30% nutrition bonus from cooking, and many ingredients need to be cooked before being used in a salad anyway
Stir fry - The favorite of beginners, an inferior stew but without the need for water. Also you are forced to eat out of the pan like a savage since plates aren't real.
Roasted vegetables - Identical to stir fry
Cool tier
Sandwich, pizzas, cake, tacos - Mostly impractical imho, but very cool for roleplay/special occasions!

Discussion Carzone 1 misinformation
On VHS tape Carzone 1 Jimmy is saying you gotta jack it up before you play with your nuts but on my knowledge you remove the nuts then jack up the car so the wheel dont turn when you're trying to unscrew.

Gameplay 1000h+ in, i finally got a broken rib, by hitting a traffic sign I could barely see
Okay guys. This's what happened. Drove into a nearly invisible traffic sign and got a fracture upper torso. Turn out you can't splint a torso fracture, so now i'm stuck bandaged up and waiting 13+ in-game days to recover
1000+ hours of fighting zombie, and now taken down by a pole. Has anyone else been humbled by something this dumb?

Question Tailoring sucks
Is there actually any faster way to level tailoring other than adding and removing patches? I need one thread per patch, and one thread costs one rag. and i get maybe 2 per clothing item i rip up. I've gone the calculations but for Tailoring level 5 (after reading all the available skill book) I need 800 THREAD. WHAT?!? I cleared out rosewood and got maybe 1000 rags. How is this possible to players to do? I'm confused

Discussion I think cars' headlights should illuminate at least some of the vehicle's body
I understand it looks better but it makes it unnecessarily hard to even be sure of where the car is pointing to. When you're driving you kinda always know where you're going to and somewhat what the car's dimensions are even if they're not directly illuminated.
For reference, one picture is the regular headlights and the other is the headlights plus a flashlight. You really shouldn't be expected to keep a flashlight on while driving just to make a turn or just to alight the car with the road.
