PnP Game Design CAR-D Racing (Prototype)

I worked lately a lot on my first retail release via a publisher 🎉 Now that all the game data has been delivered to the publisher, I felt like working on something small and quick again.

I wanted a small, simple, and family-friendly racing game, and after two evenings of work, the first prototype was ready.
The working title is CAR-D Racing.
The gear determines the number of dice. There are special maneuvers like afterburners, braking, and slipstream. There’s also a simple damage model.

First testplay with my 7yo daughter and she beat me with 2 spaces at the end of the race.

PnP Links Yes, Master is out. A free solo roll-and-write about digging up bodies, just in time for Halloween

Two weeks ago I asked for playtesters here, and around 20 of you said yes. Thank you. The game is much better because of you.

Your Master wants bodies before dawn. Each turn you roll two dice: one decides how you dig, the other how far. Over five nights you dig a trail through the cemetery and snatch the bodies he orders.

After playtesting, the rules are rewritten and clearer, and there are two new graveyards: Mirewater, with a lake to tunnel under, and Cripplegate, with a wall down the middle.

You need a printer, two dice and a pen. A game takes 15 to 20 minutes.

How Do You Convert a Game You Own to PnP

• Upvotes

I have a card game that I am launching on Kickstarter with fulfillment available in US only. I've decided to make a print and play version of the game for the rest of the world (or people who don't want to pay shipping for a card game), but I'd like to know what differences I should expect to make to create the print and play version?

Do PnPers like to have the full art card images that they can print out, or is it better to make a version that is more at home printer friendly? Or maybe include files for both?

I've never played a PnP game, so any advice on converting the game is appreciated.

PnP Links Grim Gauntlet Free to play 18 card Dungeon Crawler

Hello everyone! I wanted to share a solo development project I worked on for the past couple years. It is an 18 card dungeon crawler called Grim Gauntlet.

I originally designed the game as part of a game design contest but wasn't able to complete it in time. So, I worked on it over a couple of years to submit to the publisher. Unfortunately I never heard back to have it picked up.

The game was intended to be a physical game small enough to fit in a wallet, however I created a digital version for playtesting etc. The game is a bit more work to play as a digital version but is still completely playable. I did make a Print and Play version as suggested by another redditor, luckily I had files to print and play for the publisher to playtest so I uploaded them to itch!

Do to issues with depression and anxiety I have been having problems with motivation and drive to pursue other publishers.

I wanted to make it available and known for anyone who is interested in playing it. Hopefully at least a few people can get some joy from it.

I created this by myself with playtest help from a couple of friends and my brother. I am by no means an artists but all art was done by myself. I was hoping to get the art commissioned but I was never near close to having the funds for it so please excuse the sorry excuse for art on the cards, I tried my hardest lol.

I did put a lot of time, effort and passion into this game. It isn't perfect by any means but I really hope some find enjoyment from it if you give it a chance.

It's completely free so please consider giving is a try if you have the time. If you do, I would love to hear your thoughts and feedback. I am unsure if I will be able to find that passion again but if I do I will try to implement any feedback in the future.

PnP Links MercaTiny: a completely free print-and-play board game for 2–4 players, also free to play online

Thumbnail

Hi everyone! I’m the designer of MercaTiny, and I’d like to share my completely free print-and-play board game.

In MercaTiny, you compete as merchants in a changing town market. You open stalls, stock them with goods and attract customers, trying to steer their spending towards your businesses rather than your opponents’.

Location matters: customers follow specific routes around the stalls and carry their own shopping lists. Having the right goods isn’t enough, you also need to be in the right place along their route. Changing prices, competing merchants and special characters add further decisions to the mix.

This is a board game you can print and play at your table:

  • For 2..4 players.
  • Component PDFs, rulebooks and player aids are free to download, with no account required.
  • Rulebooks and player aids are available in English, Italian, German, French and Spanish.

Free print-and-play files:

https://mercatiny.com/print-and-play

I’ve also built a browser version, which is completely free too, for anyone who would like to try the game before printing it or play with friends remotely. Online games use asynchronous turns, so you don’t need to be online at the same time.

Play online:

https://mercatiny.com

I’d love to hear your thoughts, particularly on the clarity of the rules and the print-and-play preparation. And if you get it to the table, I’d be delighted to hear how your market turned out!

PnP Question Using a Print Shop for printing

Oddly enough I just found out about Print and Play gaming, and it is really interesting. However I do not have a color printer as I've never saw the need for one (just got a b/w a year ago).

So I decided at first to try using a print shop to print my stuff. But I was wondering if there are any things that I should be aware of, or anything that would be a drawback over other things. I already know that cutting and laminating is probably out of the question due to costs. But for example, is the dualsided printing spot on, or what?

just generally interested in what others think regarding using a print shop (Fedex/Kinko's/Staples, etc) over buying their own color printer

Texas Expansion Progress & Design Choices - Journal Entry Week 12

100 Downloads Milestone!

I have gotten to 100 downloads across all the places it is available! THAT IS SO FREAKIN COOL!! Thank you to everyone who downloaded the test version.

Expansion Planning & Writing

This week I finished selecting the cities and drafting ideas for missions for the expansions. These cities are 9 for Texas, 6 for New Mexico, and 7 for Arizona.

For what I wanted to get done was to finish up the map, but not quite ready. I think I need to wait until I get the mission count setup so I can put it in the description. So, this will be put on hold until I get the main cities done at least.

What I did manage to finish was a lot of writing. I finished writing and researching all of the 9 Texas cities. The bummer part was that I was going to add 64 more missions to Texas.

BUT….

some of them did not work out for one reason or another. What I ended up with for adding to Texas was…

drum roll……

47 more missions making a total of 50 for Texas.

Now remember my goal is to make these fast brutal and beer and pretzel type of missions. Trying to keep the mission under an hour of play.  Main but I am sure for a solo persona it could take about 30 minutes for these.

For these missions I now need to come up with about 75 drawing assets and new art.  Which is gonna take me a while.

Art & Color Theory Exploration

And since I am tired of writing, I am going to do the drawing until I am sick of drawing and going back to the writing. It seems to be a good system.

I manage to start and try to do completely digital drawing to see if it speeds it up. I think it can but I need to check to see how to make it more efficient.  And I am trying to expand the value balance for the deeper sepia look on the color.

Speaking of the color I am at a crossroads. I have been watching some color theory and the accent color I have is not the best choice sort of say. So, I am thinking of using a magenta that is very neon and hot. Which I love because of the heat vibe it gives, really emphasizing the vibe I am trying to go with.

Now the other choice is the opposite color of these browns. And this happens to be like a teal turquoise look. And I have played around with using that as the accent and it does pop but I am not sure yet.  I think I need to toy around with more. Maybe in the next update I will have some samples.

Texas Mission Ideas

I want to finish this update with some of the ideas I have come up with for Texas missions.

Here are some of the titles I have for the missions to give you an idea;

  • The Beast of Trinity Bottoms
  • Spring Palace Fire!
  • The Doctor Needs Some Pepper
  • The Jealous Chef
  • The Birth of Tex-Mex Cuisine.
  • The Beasts in Franklin Mountains
  • The Priest Stand off
  • Spa Day!
  • The Unplayed Piano of Ashton Villa
  • Boggy Creek Beast
  • The Row of Fire
  • Can’t be a good guy all the time
  • The purple pearl
  • Goodnight’s Cattle experiment gone wrong

Also, I have 16 ideas for new Uglies (abominations), a couple of historical NPC and characters, and some cool items like a dr pepper (maybe).

Let me know what you think of these titles for the missions. Do any standout?

If you are interested in checking out the campaign supplement, please check it out on Itch, RPGtrader, Drive Thru RPG as the “Smash List”.

Seeking Playtesters [Free PnP] A short detective mystery set in 1950s Rome – our first case, would love feedback

Hi everyone! We're Atelier Alibi, a tiny atelier that just opened and makes printable mysteries set in mid-century Italy: real-looking letters, statements, timetables and floor plans you spread on the table and solve like an actual detective.

To say hello, we made a short one completely free: Case Nº 0: The Scooter in the Courtyard. Rome, a sunny Sunday in May 1956: a brand-new scooter disappears from a courtyard while the street gate is locked. Six papers, one clock that runs slow, and one person who isn't telling the truth.

If you try it, we'd love to hear how it went: was it too easy, too hard, where did you get stuck? We're just starting out and every bit of feedback helps us make the next cases better.

And if you enjoy it, our full cases (Lake Como, Trieste, Venice, an ocean liner on New Year's Eve...) are here: https://atelieralibi.etsy.com

Thank you, and happy sleuthing!
