Rant/vent Rant

It’s such a disappointing feeling to be waitlisted after an interview where they said they really liked you, and would love to see you attend their program 🤥

You would think interviewers would avoid that type of language as to not get peoples' hopes up

Ya and some people got rejected after being told they were liked too.

It blows my mind how interviewers can say stuff like that, then that SAME program won’t offer any individual feedback. What a joke

Did that 1 interviewer like you or did all of them tell you they liked you and that they all wanted you to attend?

My interviewer was just a one-on-one. And she said that unprompted. If she hadn’t of said anything I wouldn’t be as disappointed as I am right now.

I get rejected after I spent money applying , money flying out, money staying at a hotel, money getting a rent a car.

Really made me feel great.

i’m sorry. i know how much that hurts… there was another post similar to this. sometimes it’s not up to the interviewer but other outside factors, higher ups, competition. wl still means you have a solid chance tho! it looks like u got admitted to another program so thats amazing!

That’s true. And thank you! I’m so happy and lucky to be accepted elsewhere. This wl program was one of my top choices so I guess it just stings a little more.

It's definitely not up to just one interviewer too. I was told this in an interview and even after. I talked to them and they told me how the decisions are made, and gave me like an insider view on it. They really wanted me in and tried their best. It was great learning what happens on the other side.

I know exactly how you feel. I know it’s easier said than done, but they weren’t just gassing you up for no reason with the intent of not offering you a seat.

I got told by 3 out 5 faculty members at my dream program that I was “doing great and to keep it up.” The director even complemented my experiences ans said that people like me always excelled in their program. I thought for sure I was in until I got my waitlist email 3 days later. I was distraught, like cried for a week straight.

Around a month later I got my acceptance call, and they even told me I was at the top of the waitlist. I realized they weren’t lying, there were just SUCH competitive applicants in my interview pool that they loved as well and they just didn’t have a seat for me. They wouldn’t waitlist you if they didn’t really want you in their program. I know how dumb it sounds, I didn’t believe it either, but it’s true.

Something I also was two weeks later I sent them a follow up email and thanked them for interviewing me and that I was grateful to still be considered, and would absolutely accept my seat and attend if offered one since they are my top choice. This might be controversial but at the end of the day they want people who want THEIR program over anyone else’s 🤷‍♀️

Hang in there!! It’s truly not over even if it feels like it. And above all, remember that you will never miss out on what’s meant for you. Good luck OP, I hope that next open seat is yours!!🫶🏻

Also I forgot to mention, in my email I updated them on my PCE since I had gained 500-600 hours since submitting my app. I think that helped considering I only had 1000 at submission. They sent me a confirmation saying they updated my app the next day

Sometimes we get to interview applicants we wish we saw earlier, when there were still seats open.
Reapply, be persistent. Mention the previous year when you apply next year (if you need to).
Super common not to get in first year..
