PharmD student graduating in 2027 considering law school. Am I crazy?

Hi everyone!

I'm currently a pharmacy student graduating with my Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree in May 2027. I know some people might think I'm crazy for wanting to go back to school after spending so many years pursuing my PharmD, but I've developed a really strong interest in law and am seriously considering attending law school after graduation.

Ideally, I'd love to find a career that combines my background in healthcare/pharmacy with law. I'm currently attending a well-known pharmacy school in Los Angeles, but I see myself eventually moving to San Diego and hopefully attending law school there, specifically the University of San Diego (USD).

I have so many questions and honestly don't even know where to start.

  • Has anyone here transitioned from healthcare (especially pharmacy, medicine, or another doctoral-level healthcare profession) into law?
  • How difficult was the transition? Did you find that your healthcare background gave you an advantage?
  • What types of legal careers would allow me to combine my PharmD with a JD?
  • Would you advise me against this?
  • How realistic is getting a full-ride scholarship to USD School of Law? What kind of GPA and LSAT score would make me competitive considering Ill also have a doctorate?
  • How long should I realistically study for the LSAT, especially while finishing pharmacy school?

I know many may think this isn't the smartest decision, but I don't want to look back years from now and regret not pursuing something I'm genuinely interested in.

Part of me wishes I had realized my interest in law earlier, but I'm also hoping that having a PharmD could open doors in areas of law that I wouldn't have considered otherwise.

I'd really appreciate any advice, personal experiences, or even brutally honest opinions. If you've made a similar career change, was it worth it? Would you do it again?

Thanks in advance!
