My partner had his reversal today after 3 years of pain

He got the vasectomy at 30, and noticed a little bit of ball pain after sex very early on. It wasn't severe, but he was worried (thinking torsion, cancer, infection, etc). Coincidentally due to atrocious luck, around that same time he got a fungal infection to the head of his penis. It ached for about a year, and was the focus of our concerns. His dick hurt so much from the infection that he rarely ejaculated, and since the ball pain was a result of ejaculating, it wasn't quite so relevant for awhile. His urologist repeatedly brushed off the fungal infection pain, and the testicle pain.

It took us about 1.5 years post vas to realize that the testicle pain was vasectomy related. His urologist continued to act like it was nothing and offer zero solutions. During one appt we were nearly in tears, explaining that he hasn't been able to have sex due to pain, and the doctor shrugged, made a face as if to say "duh", and left the room.

My partner went through phases of being severely depressed, to doing his best to ignore the pain and keep ejaculating anyway, to trying to have great sex while not involving his penis at all. He learned that if he waits a couple weeks between orgasms, the pain isn't as bad. The more often he cums, the worse his ball hurts. The man went from ejaculating at least once a day pre vas, to going weeks to even months without an orgasm due to pain. Side note, if any of you are open to prostate play, it's been the only way for him to have an orgasm pain free. There was a huge learning curve, but well worth it.

Around the forth appointment begging his urologist for help, he got a referral for pelvic floor PT, because "you have back pain, that's why your testicle hurts. It's not the vasectomy." PT was fantastic and fixed his back pain, but did literally nothing for his testicle.

Around this time, he successfully quit nicotine. His erections were stronger than ever, and so was the pain. My theory is that because things are flowing better all around, more is also backflowing into the granuloma. It genuinely has felt like he was punished for quitting vaping. At this point the congestive epidytimis pain became so serious that after every orgasm he goes pale and nearly vomits, then become practically paralyzed by pain for multiple hours. The pain lasts a few days, and then a week or so later he gets horny and tries again., with the same painful result.

His PCP tried prescribing gabapentin. It did nothing. A second opinion urologist put him on a 3 week course of antibiotics, which also did nothing. How shocking to learn that nearly 3 years of localized pain during sex wasn't caused by an infection...

A few months ago, I found this subreddit, found a PVPS specialist, and we drove 1000 miles to see her. He was finally diagnosed with congestive epidytimis and PVPS. $6000 and another 1000 miles later, he had his surgery this morning. We're both so anxious to find out over the coming weeks/months if he can have sex with less pain.

Anyway, thanks to all of you for sharing your stories. If the reversal worked, it's truly all thanks to you guys. I'm so sorry to all of you who have dealt with this. It's fucking infuriating that so many of you weren't properly warned of the risks of the procedure. I guarantee my bf wouldn't have done it if he knew there was a chance of losing his sex life.
