🤔Misc. Inquiry/Request Am an attention seeking piano enthusiast, is this bad?

I’m a middle level player. I feel frisson when playing sad songs, it’s stronger when I play for people. Pretty sure it’s the attention, even if it’s from the demented elderly. Used to, but no longer fear playing publicly. I play at over a dozen local senior homes regularly. When the opportunity arises I will play at airports, subway stops, churches where I do blood donations and hotels. Now when I travel I will seek out venues(typically senior homes) to play at. Before going to my out of town uncle’s wake, after dropping my daughter and her friends at the mall and before going to an out of town college football game I zeroed in on a senior home to play. Most of times the front desk will look at me funny. Those who let me play inevitably will ask me when I can come back to play. Sorry, it was a one night stand. I really don’t care if others enjoy it as boosts my own internal ego. Am an old middle aged guy, but feel like if you PET scanned my brain, it’d look like a pretty girl seeking attention from men, not because she likes men but because she wants attention.

🧑‍🏫Question/Help (Intermed./Advanced) I kinda wanna learn a show off piece or a Chopin etude but idk what to do that’s not too hard

I have small hands (can reach an octave but not a ninth and gets very tired for long stretching) Last piece I played was moonlight sonata 3rd movement and I have tried Hungarian Rhapsody no.2, halfway through Friska and finished lassan but not neatly. I want to play Ballade no.1 eventually. What am I actually good enough at to play?

🧑‍🏫Question/Help (Intermed./Advanced) 6 months with 30 minutes a day at the piano. You’re not allowed to learn any new pieces. What’s your regimen?

What would be your go to regimen to keep your playing well sustained while advancing your technique however little it may progress?

For me:

Sight reading: ~10 minutes

Ascending and descending scales : 10 minutes

Trills and 4th/5th finger exercises: 5 minutes

Existential crisis: Last 5 minutes

🎼Useful Resource (learning aid, score, etc.) First time giving lessons next week… any YouTube videos, podcasts, or pedagogy resources that will make me less nervous?

I have about 8 students booked next week (few kids, young adults, and two seniors), and I’m just a bit nervous on how I should approach developing lesson plans and methods for students of all ages. I bought a bunch of Faber Adventures books to look over, but I don’t want to just sit down a student and meticulously go through the books, but instead would like to use it as a supplement. I’m a 32 year old pianist / multi-instrumentalist who’s been self taught for 20 years, and part of a family with a heavy musical background. I taught myself in probably unconventional ways, so I’m just unfamiliar with the approach of teaching in a very traditional way. Just looking for tips and advice, and maybe any anecdotes of other teachers feeling nervous at first but who quickly got the groove of things. Thanks!

🙋Question/Help (Beginner) Wrist and Forearm Pain; Technique Issue?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Recently picked piano back up after a 5 or 6 year hiatus, basically started over. In the last 3 or 4 days I've been learning and practicing Mozart's Turkish March. I've always been self-taught, save a year of keyboarding class in middle school, so I've never been taught healthy form.

In practicing this piece. My left hand, wrist and forearm fatigue dramatically throughout practice sessions. I can only imagine this is a technique issue and I'd love to hear input on my playing.

All critique is welcome! Obviously there's some missed notes in here, go ahead and flame me for those. But on addition to form, any articulation I'm missing or even tasteful suggestions absent from the original I'm very open to! TIA!

ETA: my forearm pain really only gets bad when practicing the B theme with the big rolling chords that i seem to have neglected to record here.

🔌Digital Piano Question new to Keyboards 🎹 New to music What's the best approach if classes aren't an option

• Upvotes

I thought self learning would be rather direct path but after searching YouTube and other pages I just don't see a strong enough answer as a decent approach

I have a Casio Cts300

I am open to any "methods" to try And the only traditional way which feels continent is Method books

so question is which one would you say you recommend and is "worth" it

Yt has helped me with finding C and all the other letters just don't know how to move forward just learning a song seems like "learn and forget" I kinda wanna connect to the emotional more than being in loop of dopamine

sorry for long message it is 2 am and I got overstimulated

I am open to Dms as well Thank you

PS my goals are to be able to understand a song and replay it in Piano

current goal has been Congratulations by Mac miller

and future goal is to join friends into the long awaiting band idea

thank you

If no why, if yes why… I am a beginner composer.

Here is the Free Full Score: https://musescore.com/user/98567428/scores/39608771?share=copy_link

This is the first piano piece where i tried to not put random ideas/motifs into a score (see some of my previous works), but instead to structure everything like a story, to use music theory and to shape the music in interesting ways… I hope I composed something decent!

🎶Other I made a colour notation for piano where you only learn 7 positions once, and they repeat in every octave

I’ve always found that reading sheet music is the hardest part of learning piano. You have two clefs, ledger lines, and key signatures to keep in your head. So I built my own system.

How it works:

  • Each octave gets its own small block of 3 lines. The 7 notes sit in the same place in every block (B on the top line, G on the middle line, E on the bottom line, C just below).
  • Every note name has its own colour (C yellow, D blue, E green, F purple, G brown, A red, B orange).
  • The octave starting at middle C has thicker lines. That’s your anchor, and you count up or down from it.
  • There’s no key signature. Each sharp or flat is written right next to its note, so you always see which key to press.
  • Horizontal spacing shows time, and gaps show rests.

Once you can read one octave, you can read all of them.

I wrote a converter that turns any MusicXML file (e.g. exported from MuseScore) into this notation. It runs in the browser, and your file isn’t uploaded anywhere.

Use it: https://practicalengineering.github.io/Easy-Piano-Note-System/
Video explanation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cIgx6MGYXXs
Discord if you want to try it or give feedback: https://discord.gg/cp6sneRdC

I’d really like honest feedback, especially from teachers and from people who gave up on reading regular sheet music. What would make this easier or harder for you?

🔌Digital Piano Question Piano numérique chaleur/froid ? (English below)

Bonjour,

Merci d'avance !

____

Hello,

I’ve been a pianist (not professionally) for over 20 years and am thinking of buying a digital piano. My concern is spending a lot of money on an instrument that might get damaged quickly: I live in a top-floor flat in Paris, and it gets very cold in winter and very (very) hot in summer. Are there any risks, or are digital pianos robust? Many thanks!

Hi everyone!

Would a hero be able to decode the trumpet/organ play of the Intro just after Kain destabilises the pillars of Nosgoth? And the soundtrack for the chaper: House of my enemy?

I love these two!

Can anybody guide me through my keyboard, C1-B1 to C4-B4?

A big, thank you!

🗣️Let's Discuss This I don't understand the fourth movement of Chopin's second sonata

I have listened to the full sonata probably more than a hundred times and I can usually understand the musicality of Chopin's pieces very quickly. Some are very straightforward like his nocturnes and some take a few listens like the fourth ballade coda.

But until now, every time it plays the fourth movement, I just listen with fascination. I can't hear any particular melody, it's just an overwhelming chaotic rush of notes that ends the sonata in a bit of a scary way. Makes me feel a little evil.

Is there something deeper to this movement that I'm missing? or is it meant to simply be chaotic and overwhelm you as the final sendoff for the sonata?
