Information If you have been buying hot dogs at the Philadelphia Insurance Club, you’ve been being scammed.

Hello all,

I am a very lucky man and attend many Phillies games, primarily at the Diamond Club (now insurance club, changes every year for some shitty sponsor yay consumerism)

Every game I get the same order. Hot dogs and fries. Overpriced, sure, but I’m not paying for any of the other up charged slop they serve there. I’ve been getting this for years.

Notably, the price of a hot dog (at least at the insurance club) is $4.63. (For a notable HR maybe? I always thought schwarber second deck) I have always noticed that the ending total for my order of a hot dog and fries has been a bit high compared to my basic addition, and have brought it up multiple times to staff, to which it has been attributed to “taxes and fees”.

Well, on Thursday against the Mets, I wasn’t feeling fries, so I bought one (1) hotdog. When I went to check out, I was surprised to see this dog costed me nearly 7 bucks!!! I again asked the employee, who said, “taxes and fees”. I couldn’t shake that this was horseshit, but the game was starting. I left and immediately thought “what tax causes a near 50 percent markup??”

The next game I went to, as an experiment, I purchased a singular dog. Again; nearly 7 bucks. So I asked for an itemized receipt. To my vindication (and anger) - the price for the dog was $6!!!! I alerted staff. They didn’t give a shit.

Now I’m a huge consumer protection advocate and hopeful future antitrust litigator. Idk about anyone else, but this kind of brazen consumer protection violation pisses me off. How many hot dogs have been bought under this fake price? That’s nearly a 40 percent markup (more including tax and tip) on every dog sold!!! I know it’s been at least since the beginning of this year, and I remember the 4.63 list price at least coming in to effect at the beginning of last season or so.

Has anyone else been scammed by this? Is this just the diamond club or do other stands do this as well? Am I the only one who cares (I hope not or I’ll look stupid) - what can we do?? CBP is already one of the most expensive ballparks and has the most advertisements by volume of any stadium. This scam pushes their greed over the top for me. And they don’t seem to give a single shit.

How do I get to Citizens Bank Park?

Citizens Bank Park is located in South Philadelphia's sports complex. The easiest way to get there is unfortunately driving, as the stadium is surrounded by an ocean of parking lots. SEPTA's Broad Street Line stops at NRG Station, which is a short walk from the park. Attractions near the stadium include a casino, and the Navy Yard. The Navy Yard also has free street parking if you don't mind a small walk to Citizens Bank Park.

Information If We’re Gonna Play The Blame Game

Post image
197 Upvotes

With the massive slide, and uninspiring team we’ve been able to watch so far this season, it’s very natural for fans to start looking for people to blame. I’m not here to tell you Thomson is the best Manager in the MLB, or that Dave Dombrowski is a genius, or that Middleton opened up his pocketbook at the right time. I think there’s good arguments as to why those deserve blame.

Truthfully, I think there’s an elephant in the room we refuse to talk about. Player development. This organization seems completely unable to develop home grown talent (besides pitchers). To see guys like Kingery, Moniak, Stott, Bohm, (not yet realized Crawford, Nori, Miller), O’hoppe, even Marsh (not drafted but young) fail to be real impact players at the plate. It’s akin to the Sixers. And could’ve been said about the Flyers, too. (Nolan Patrick believers unite).

The Eagles have been able to find tremendous value out of a 2nd round QB, drafted 2 elite CBs in 1 draft, difference makers in the trenches, even further back in the draft. Etc.

It’s kind of lame we don’t have any home grown superstars to root for. Guys who are so good, them alone really gives us a chance. I know it’s not as common in baseball, but even look at Skenes, Mcgonigle, Delauter, Murakami, etc. Why can’t we draft a Giannis, Jokic, Burrow, Myles Garrett, Kon Knueppel, Cooper Flagg, Luka Doncic, Lamar Jackson, Wemby, etc.

Here’s a list of Phillies 1st round draft picks.

Gage Wood (TBD)

Dante Nori (TBD)

Aiden Miller (Injured, TBD)

Justin Crawford (On Roster)

Andrew Painter (On Roster)

Mick Abel (Traded)

Bryson Stott (On Roster)

Alec Bohm (On Roster, 3rd overall)

Adam Hasely (Out of league)

Mickey Moniak (1st overall, traded for Noah Syndergaard)

Cornelius Randolph (10th overall, never played in MLB)

Aaron Nola (On Roster)

J.P. Crawford (2 years on Phillies, traded for Jean Segura)

Some randoms

Chase Utley & Cole Hamels, both drafted in 00/02, and on the 08 team.

So in 18 years, we haven’t been able to draft and develop a single hitter. That’s terrible. I think you’d be hard pressed to find any other MLB team who have been that unsuccessful at drafting and developing. One of the biggest reasons drafting & developing is so important, is because of cost. While baseball doesn’t currently have a salary cap, it’s still important.

This is a big reason why the Phillies payroll is so high, yet they’re not as good as we’d hope.

Edit: Do you guys think Martone could swing a bat?

Information [Jen Ramose] I don't know who needs to hear this, but an MLB lockout will not affect Minor League Baseball games next season, separate CBAs. It will only affect the guys who are on the 40 man and they would not be playing but otherwise the 2027 MiLB season will go on as planned.

Information Don Mattingly benched Chase Utley in the playoffs

In 2015, Chase Utley was the top pinch hitter for the LA Dodgers. They faced the Mets in the NLDS round of the playoffs that year. In Game 1, Utley was the first pinch hitter off the bench (this was before DH, so opportunities were plenty). He struck out that game, and the Dodgers lost the series opener.

In Game 2, the Dodgers were trailing by one run in the 7th inning when Utley pinch hit with a runner on first and one out. He singled, making it first and third. The next batter hit a ground ball to second base, Utley broke up the double play with a violent (but legal) slide, and everyone was correctly ruled safe on the play. The Dodgers scored four runs in the inning, and they tied the series at one before heading to NYC for games 3 and 4.

Utley was initially suspended for two games after the slide, but this suspension was immediately appealed during the off day before Game 3, because it was not an illegal slide. The suspension was overturned, AND the act of the appeal made Utley available for games 3 and 4 in New York.

Utley did NOT appear in either game in NYC despite being Don Mattingly’s top left handed option off the bench that season. They split these two games, with no Utley appearances despite many opportunities for Mattingly to use him against a righty pitcher.

Mattingly was scared to use his hall of fame lefty bat because this would have made his press conference slightly more difficult after the game in his BELOVED New York home.

But when the series went back to LA for a deciding game 5? Suddenly Mattingly had the courage to use Utley as a pinch hitter in the last inning. He flied out to the warning track — maybe he would’ve hit it over the fence if he wasn’t iced the previous four days.

We still hired this coward as manager, and he blew another playoff series 11 years later.

I love that he owns this trivia answer. I was there and it was the moment I knew we would win the whole thing.

Ohtani might be the only person that could change this any time soon. But not this year... and only if he's the pitcher of record at the time of the HR!

Mods I ask that you keep this up. PSTH make sure you claim your refund. This team doesn’t deserve to keep your money. Middleton doesn’t deserve an interest free loan.
