support needed Mo/Di twins size difference

Hello, I had my first of biweekly scans at 16 weeks and 4 days.
One twin was measuring 16 weeks and 1 days and the other was measuring 15 weeks and 1 days.
Has anyone else had this and continued to have a healthy pregnancy?
The doctor said one was slightly smaller but that seems like quite a big gap to me? They’ve now booked me in with the main FTM consultant at the hospital but that’s not until a week on Friday.
They saidblood flow and fluid looks fine, but of course you start googling read how quickly things can change with twins who share a placenta.
Just feeling very anxious about everything and would love to hear some positive stories 🙏🏻

I was diagnosed at 16 weeks with fetal growth restriction on baby b, with the placenta split being estimated st 60/40. I had my boys 2 weeks ago at 36.3 weeks. They are small boys, 2.5kg and 1.8kg and the placenta split was likely more 75/25. As long as the smaller baby stays on their growth chart and their dopplers look good and your happy with the level of monitoring your being provided, a very healthy and happy pregnancy is still very possible.

my sister had mo/di twins and her smaller one was always behind. they came at 35 weeks, 2.1kg and 3kg. the smaller one needed a little nicu time but now theyre 4 and you cant even tell who was the tiny one

the wait for the consultant is the worst part, i know. try not to google too much before then, it just makes everything feel more scary

This is reassuring to hear, thank you! Yes it’s just the wait between appointments causes some anxiety

Aww that’s great to hear. They didn’t mention anything about growth restriction which I guess is good, although I do wish I asked for a copy of the scan report as all I could see was the difference in gestation which just really stuck out to me. I also found out I’m having boys at this scan.
Glad everything went well for you and yours baby’s 😊

Yeah our smaller one had measured small from about 10 weeks, so we knew there was a size difference from the begining. I will keep my fingers crossed for you and your babes! Congratulations on your boys, im sure everything will be fine 🩵🩵

Did they know why you had growth restriction? We just got diagnosed with the same thing at 17 weeks :( it sounds like you did the procedure where they separate the placenta?

They do not know why it occurs, but we were placed in a case study during the pregnancy and will continue to have our twins measured and studied as they grow. We had zero surgeries, but were closely monitored at a specialised hospital for mo-di twins

8lb and 6lb at birth. 6lb is now at least 2 lbs heavier than his brother.

Wow 8lb! Were they Mo/Di too?

Aw, I've been there and was also worried. For us everything turned out fine, we had to have weekly check-ups for a few weeks and then back to 'normal' every other week. The difference between our girls stayed almost the same throughout the whole pregnancy, and also now they are born (11mo now) but they are both healthy. When they were born they could see the difference in blood flow/nutrition was 90/10. Absolutely bonkers - I was happy that we had them at 36 weeks (scheduled by the hospital).

I would try to focus on what the doctors are saying, because they can see so much but also so little at the same time. And if you need more reassurance to feel safe, don't hesitate to ask - that's so important as well!

Edit: they were born at 2.5kg and 2kg 😊

That’s great, I’m glad your girls are all good! How much did they weigh at birth if you don’t mind me asking?

They were 2.5kg and 2kg. This was also the difference they had in my pregnancy, so it turned out to just be part of them.

Mine always measured between 15-20% discordant. Never any TTTS, born healthy at 34+4 due to my severe preE

That’s amazing 😊

Dont google. Listen to your doctor. If they say its a slight difference why do you think it 'seems' big? My twins were hard to measure every scan except the first 2. The measurements are very accurate but not perfect and there's also lots of room for user error on the technicians behalf. My boy also measured larger than my girl every scan, which is consistent with gender growth rates.

I just didn’t realise a weeks difference would be a slight difference. But I also didn’t see the scan report so didn’t see any percentages or anything. Mine are both boys as they are identical. I just worry with them sharing a placenta

Let me just add that they misread my oldest by 2kg/4 pounds on his scans. And our twins were supposed to be 2,5kg around 3 weeks before they were born and guess what, one was hardly 2,5kg and the other 2,3kg. I don't think they lost weight in utero..

Those ultrasounds are wild.

Oh wow! Yeah I guess the ultrasound measurements can’t be totally accurate 😅

From my experience the discordance % is what they focused on most and there was zero concern as long as it was under 20%. My boys fluctuated with A always being a little smaller and got close to 20% discordance but was less on the next scan. Born at 34w3d A was 6lbs 4oz, B was 6lbs 14oz. B lost more weight after birth and A weighed more when we discharged from NICU

My sister had a 1.5 lb birth difference. Mono/di twins. In the end we grew up fine, I'm just 2 inches shorter than her. I was always smaller than her but can't stress otherwise we are both healthy smart adults!
