Help First paludarium (enclosed, multiple fans): will these plants survive?

Thumbnail

Total noob here, setting up my first enclosed paludarium with good airflow from multiple fans. Before I plant anything, are these suitable?

  • Fittonia (red and white)
  • Red prayer plant (Maranta)
  • Begonias (polka-dot and rex types)
  • Watermelon peperomia
  • Neoregelia bromeliad
  • Selaginella and maidenhair fern
  • Anthurium (velvet types)
  • Syngonium
  • Piper (quilted leaf)

I also plan to grow a Monstera in the water along with Chinese evergreens.

Questions:

  1. Which of these will thrive in high humidity, and which will rot or struggle?
  2. Is a Monstera okay long-term with its roots in water inside an enclosure?
  3. Where should each go: water edge, mid-level, or raised land?

Any plants you’d add or skip? Thanks!

I’m in the process of building my vampire crabs a new tank, I’m running into the issue of the water whicking into the substrate so much that the water pump for the waterfall is not working. Would I be able to fill a cup or Tupperware with water and some holes and set it in the water portion so has a larger amount to pull from?

Help What plants to stock this tank?

Post image

This tank is 60x45x60cm which will house some vampire crabs (purple haze) i woyld like to know what are some plants you guys could recommend for the tank.

There will be a water section and the right side is a waterfall with many leaks(accident) so it’s quite wet.what are plants that lovesss moisture that could grow there?

For the middle and left side i was thinking of adding creeping plants but have no idea of what is a good plant(other than ficus pumilla).will also be adding nepenthes ampullaria and bromeliads

Same with the ground floor i was thinking of foxtail moss leaf litter and fittonia

That's my doc for notes and what I'm planning on adding!!

It's still a work in progress, but is there anything else I could keep in mind of?

This will be my first paludarium, so I want to start off on the right foot. I do have some experience in keeping aquariums, though.

is this paludarium suitable for vampire crabs? I live in a dry climate so I taped the top of the screen lid to retain the moisture. I have a heating pad under the water and a heat lamp above pointing at the ground because my room is very cold 60 degrees usually. I have isopods and springtails (which I haven’t seen much of at all in 2 weeks). I mist it twice a day. I want to add plants to the water if possible. the water is a little cloudy because I just added the sand. planning to get 6.

Video What is this little mushroom looking plant next to my turtle’s basking spot?

This recently popped up in my paludarium. I also would like to figure out a plant for that spot right in the middle. It has soil that drains out but stays pretty moist. You can see I have an Anubia, the pothos, moss (some good some not so good), and there is a fern barely holding on next to the pothos.

Any suggestions on how to secure the hose so it’s securely tucked under the inside lip? And how to get rid of the suction cup mister support so it’s a little cleaner looking?

Help Will this affect anything?

Just finished spraying my palu wall and completed the background.I decided to test the water fall feature and turns out theres holes that water builds up in. Will this affect the background?

And also the water fall is leaking in places it shouldnt be so i was wondering how i could prevent the substrate from getting too wet.

Should i try adding a mini pond or something else?

Help Connecting two tanks

Post image

I bought 4 Vietnamese mossy frogs along with their established paludarium, which left the tall tank I'd originally bought for them sitting empty.

I want to flip the tall tank upside down and set it on top of the paludarium, offset to one side (see photo), to create an L-shape and add vertical space. I'll cut the lower tank's mesh lid to open up the overlap.

The bottom tank is 36x18x18" and the other is 18x18x24"

What can be used as a removable gasket between two tanks? I want it non-permanent so I can separate them to move later, and I'll scape with that in mind. Ideally I can have water drop from the highest point so this gasket would need to be water resistant at least.

Inverted, the tall tank has no top vents. How would you handle airflow and humidity? I'm thinking 2 small fans in the mid section blowing air up and down to circulate

Has anyone done something similar?

Made some progress today. Dang this part is messy!! lol

I have a lot of carving still left to do but it’s really starting to take shape.

Hopefully it will be ready for coating next week. Still trying to decide between Drylock or Smooth On Habitat Black. Smooth On is quite a bit more expensive but seems like it may be a better long term option.

Saving the right side, water fall side, for last. Still trying to decide if I’m even doing one or not.

Any tips or suggestions are welcomed!

Help Looking for advice/ ideas

I’m not even sure if this technically classifies as a paludarium but this is what I got so far, I’m looking for some plant recommendations if anyone has some. I also wanna include an atomizer to have a layer of fog at the waters surface, would that be enough moisture for moss to grow on the outer portion of the rocks?

It still needs leaf litter. It’s going to house green tree frogs in a few months, once established. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions?

Help Help with planning setup for daughter

So my daughter (5 years old) is obsessed with animals and wants a paludarium (literally had no clue that word existed until she said it lol) for Christmas. I'm a single father and I don't make a ton of money. I've been doing some research, but figured I'd ask the reddit community for their insights. Obviously I'll be doing most of the upkeep on it as she's 5, though she will definitely be doing what she can to take care of the animals too. Basically I'm just looking for advice on low cost setups, reputable suppliers for the animals and what to expect as far as upkeep. I was thinking either vampire crabs or fire belly toads as the main attraction so to speak but I'm open to other suggestions too.

Over the last couple weeks I’ve started seeing small balck flies around the lights at the top of the paludarium. I googled it and came across fungus flies though I’m not sure if that’s what they are. Does anyone know how to get rid of/prevent them?

Decided to start small for my first ever paludarium! I’ve got some experience keeping reefs, and thought this would be an interesting project to take on. It’s a Exo Terra Pro Terrarium Small Wide (5 Gal) and I’m planning to keep a pair of female vampire crabs in it, for the whole Javan theme and all. I wanted to get your thoughts on how it looks!

I think those three stuff are snails right? But what about these worms should I be worried? I also caught two very fast thin white worms but I searched and they're harmless I'm confused at this point.

Help Any tips?

Just finished foaming and adding some wood and stones to my tank and i would like some feedback in what i could change in the build.

The large wood and cork barks are built into the background while smaller wood and rocks are all removable.

I would like to know if i should change the places of the stones or wood.

And maybe some plants recommendations like creeping plants etc for vampire crabs

Should i also add cocopeat and sphagnum to the background or let it be and wait for plants to cover the back
