RE: the Posters

1.7k Upvotes

Hey folks, we hear you. These posters are expensive and we completely fumbled their release. Can we restart the loop and try again?

We realize we didn't do a good job explaining the quality and process behind Cook & Becker’s posters. The artwork for these posters were inspired by the vintage Rob Decker National Park posters. We were excited to rerelease our artwork with a printing style similar to how those original posters would have been printed in the 70s. As some folks have pointed out, yes, these posters are all individually hand-printed using a screen printing technique that requires a real human person to load up each color layer, press it onto the paper, and set and align the next color layer. Cook & Becker use a very high quality, 100% cotton material and high quality inks for the prints, which provides unmatched print quality and color fastness, making these screenprints “museum quality” and ready to last a lifetime. We'll be posting more info and videos of the process and handmade nature of the posters so you can see exactly what goes into making each one.

But we also understand this means they’re expensive and out of budget for most people. To let you into our merchandising process a little bit, we were also surprised by how expensive Cook & Becker’s artworks can be when we were first introduced to them. The folks at Cook & Becker were gracious enough to work with us to keep the price of the whole collection of posters as low as possible without compromising on the quality of the artworks. One of the reasons we haven’t rereleased the postcard version of these artworks is because the variance in print color and quality between printing runs has been disappointing and frustrating. Cook & Becker’s meticulous process and expertise gave us a lot of reassurance that we would not have the same issues for these prints. We want to provide you all with the best quality merchandise we can, but in this case, we understand this led to us producing something highly desired but too expensive for the majority of our fans. And without an affordable option available for purchase, that’s a really bad look. We hope you will forgive us.

If it helps at all, we’ve decided to look into restocking the classic printed cardstock postcards for the future, despite our past issues with them, for those who aren’t interested in these new premium fine art prints. Now also feels like an appropriate time to reveal that we have been working on a couple more standard merch projects: a re-release of our popular Echoes of the Eye Metal T-shirt and a new set of Traveler pins created by our excellent artist, Lara Colson. After hearing your concerns, we’ve decided to release the shirts as a pre-order so no one misses out on getting one. This means it’ll be several weeks before they’ll ship out because we’ll wait to screenprint them until we have your orders. As for the pins, they will only be a limited quantity right now since we ordered them awhile ago and have been waiting for the shirt to be ready so we could release and ship them together. Keep an eye out for their release soon!

We’re all hard at work on our next game, which as you all know is still a secret and still a few years away from any announcements. In the meantime, we don’t have a lot of capacity for designing new merchandise made by our team directly, so new merch will be made by external artists at partners like Fangamer or Youtooz. And occasionally, as resources allow, we’ll rerelease merch like the Metal T-Shirt. As long as there are new fans of Outer Wilds, we want to keep releasing merch with our various merch partners for you all to enjoy.

As always, you all have been such wonderful fans and we really appreciate all the love and support, the fan art, the discussions and feedback, the mods, and the excitement for our next game. Our next game is our top priority and we hope you all love it even half as much as Outer Wilds.

Hello Travelers,

Mobius here. New limited-edition Outer Wilds posters are now available!

You might be saying “Hey, these look familiar.” And you’d be right! We worked closely with the folks at Cook & Becker to bring you bigger versions of the national park-themed posters based on the solar system’s major planets. These are those very same illustrations by our artist Ian Jacobson.

The first few hundred orders come with a Certificate of Authenticity hand-signed by artist Ian, while supplies last. As indicated on the order form: "Artist-signed Certificate of Authenticity." Once those run out, subsequent orders will come with an autopen-signed CoA.

These time-limited prints are ONLY available until August 25th, with the final edition size being determined then, and cost $79.95 each. However, there is a one-week deal where you can get all six for $299 as a set instead of $480!

Each poster measures 21 x 29cm, or 8.2 x 11.4 inches

Head on over to Cook and Becker's website to check them out: https://www.cookandbecker.com/en/catalog/videogame/outer-wilds

Thanks again for all your support. Keep on exploring!

-The Mobius Digital Team

Edit: Whoops, looks like we did a terrible job communicating what these actually are: handmade fine art prints. These posters/prints are all individually hand-printed using a screen printing technique that requires a real human person to load up each color layer, press it onto the paper, and set and align the next color layer. Cook & Becker use a very high quality, 100% cotton material and high quality inks for the prints, which provides unmatched print quality and color fastness, making these screenprints “museum quality” and ready to last a lifetime. These are not normal prints, they are quite special.

Outer Wilds Creator's Dad commented in my interview with them (Wholesome Warning)

This is so wholesome. I interviewed Alex and Kelsey Beachum about their childhood of creativity together and their dad left this lovely comment. These chats I think of as being for players, but it's so cool that it gave a parent an insight to their kids.

Achievement Help DLC achievements are gone

Noticed today that the DLC achievements aren't listed anymore, not on my profile page, nor the library or store page. Anyone know why or what's going on?

EDIT: A day later and they seem to be back. And they kept their completion status and timestamps somehow, so that's a relief.

Base Game Help - NO spoilers please! First Playthrough Burnout

Really enjoyed my first playthrough so far, the game is living up to the level people say it does. However I'm feeling a bit burnt out and don't want to keep playing for the time being, the problem is I've had this in the past with other games and I've almost never finished them. Is there a way I can see how close to the "end" of the game (if there is one) so I know if I should just commit or not? No spoilers as well please :D

Base Game Appreciation/Discussion About a month ago, my 10 y.o. daughter said she wanted to watch me play through a game again... Spoiler

She had only vague memories of me playing Outer Wilds for the first time about four years ago.

We "played" like this through many of my (and hers in a process) favorite titles - Chrono Trigger/Cross, Final Fantasy IX, Tunic, Undertale...

I've played and she is watched, but sometimes i've passed the controller to her so she can explore the worlds by herself, usually just kidding around.

So, I smiled and said that this time she would be the one playing. And she happily agreed.

And i was quite surprised how well she managed the task!

To not ruin all the fun of exploration I deliberately avoided any spoilers or direct hints, offering only the occasional nudge as to which stones she might want to turn over in order to move forward when she didn't knew how to progress.

What surprised me the most was the confidence with which she set off on each new voyage through the space. During my own playthrough, I often died simply because I’d forgotten to put on my spacesuit - a mistake she made only once during whole journey (and that was because she was in such a rush to reach Black Hole Forge switch on Hollow Brittle)!

After every significant step forward, she would always check in with the members of Outer Wilds Ventures to see if they had any comments on her achievements (with the exception of Feldspar - for obvious reasons, Dark Bramble was her least favorite location).

It was a wonderful experience to watch her progress through the story and to see how she realise and understands all the rules by which this little universe operates. Black/White holes, quantum objects, time travel loop mechanics... Seems like she unreaveled whole new world of therms and phenomena in a process of playing :D

little by little there were no stones left unturned... And only one final task remained: to bring the Advanced Warp Core to the Vessel. That was the first and only time when i've directly helped her out with travelling through Dark Brumble - cause even if she knew that we still can load the save and try again, she felt like the stakes were to high to fail.

Afterward, she navigated all the trials of the Eye quite confidently; even in instances where I needed time to think - such as with the Nomai ruins - she would simply flick on her flashlight right away, as if she knew exactly what she was doing.

And then, as the credits began to roll across the screen, she said something that I both expected and didn’t expect to hear from her: "How sad that I won’t be able to play through it again..."

I almost cried...

Well, after everything she has accomplished and discovered she just wants more.

Stranger, here we go!

(Here is a little fanart she made during her playthrough after she met Solanum for the first time :D )

Base and DLC Appreciation/Discussion Nomai Homeworld Spoiler

I had a once a thought on why Nomai are a nomads, and I think that can somewhat stem from their lives on their homeworld. Perhaps it was a world full of steppe biome, similiar to Syberia or Mongolia, and it forced the Nomai to be nomadic. And perhaps it could be why they are split into multiple clans, that meet eachother from time to time.

It's just a little thought, It doesn't need to be canon.

DLC Help - NO Spoilers Please! Looking for advice about the DLC Spoiler

So I know this is going to be very hard to help with my issue with no spoilers, Apologies 😅

So I finished the base game. Fully achievement hunted it and everything. I am a scaredy cat. It took me ages to even work up the courage to do the bramble. I have thalassophobia that kinda overlaps a bit with the fear of space and the bramble was so hard to get over.

That being said, I have the DLC and never got to the point where I felt comfortable to do the scary parts. I quit the DLC a few months back and still think about it every so often (hence this post)

Is there anything people can reccomend to try and get through the DLC without quitting from fear? Or any reassurances about it that its not that bad? 😭 I appreciate any help or feedback 🙏

Base Game Appreciation/Discussion Thoughts about the "The Finale" Spoiler

question: would the ending sequence be triggered if an observer entered the eye before the collapsing of the galaxies which illuminated the ancient glade.

when you first arrive at the ancient glade it is illuminated by galaxies which begin to burst much like our own sun does at the end of every loop. Much like every star bursts in the universe if the time is taken to observe them on the deck of the vessel or the north pole of the eye.

Because the universe is dying we can see these galaxies burst just like our sun and the ancient glade which was illuminated with galaxies goes completely dark.

At this time of complete darkness every galaxy has been snuffed out. The only observer left in the entire universe is the hatchling and at that point the ancient glade starts acting as if we are the only ones observing it as the forest collapses into a more personal like observation incorporating our lost friends and memories and such.

Hypothesis: if someone were to enter the eye of the universe then the ancient glade without the deceased galaxies which would contain innumerable observers then the ancient glade would not have gone dark. It would have stayed illuminated with galaxies like when we first arrive to the ancient glade and maybe the ending sequence could not have transpired.

Hypothesis: we arrived at the eye of the universe at the exact right time. We can deduce this because the first being we encounter in the ancient glade is ourselves maybe somehow split by the polarity of the eye. What is certain is that we are the only ones there as it goes dark with the bursting of the galaxies that illuminate the ancient glade. It is only in this darkness that the light can be found and the eye starts interacting with the hatchling specifically. If the galaxies never burst the ancient glade would stay illuminated thus stunting the darkness set onto the ancient glade which would have prevented the observation of ourselves and sparking the ending sequence which triggered the big bang.

I'm so thoroughly impressed with almost literally every aspect of this game and idk if a game has ever sparked my curiosity the way this game has. Thanks for reading, devs - thanks for staying true to your vision and clearly having fun along the way. Can't wait to see what is next for mobius digital. Congrats on your success and to every hatchling out there who enjoyed outer wilds as much as I did. I know i'm late to the party but I sure enjoyed the time spent. Hatchling out

Base Game Help - NO spoilers please! Question about the SS Spoiler

I've been to the Sun Station once. Died pretty quickly due to lack of oxygen.

So im looking for a simple yes or no answer here.

Are you really meant to be able to jetpack over the cacti, round the corners and into the blue thing that takes you up to the warp? Ive managed to so this exactly once, and I regret not heading back to my ship to refuel before using the warp. So is this the intended way to get to the sun station?

If the OW timeline continued, what would the next species to arrive to the solar system have looked like? Other than five eyes, of course, that much is obvious :⋅:)

Base Game Help - NO spoilers please! Can I play this game as a dyslexic?

I’ve been wanting to try this game for forever, but I know that it is mostly about reading text and I also know that there is some kind of time constraint.

Im dyslexic so it takes me a really really long time to read short paragraphs. Is there any way to mitigate the time constraint so that I can read freely?

(I know this is something I can just search up but I was warned to not search anything up under any circumstances so I’m not taking any chances)

DLC Help - NO Spoilers Please! I'm going to play DLC a year later

I opened the game again today and I know where the DLC starts but honestly I don't feel like playing it right now. I've had this experience for the witcher dlcs before, i played them in heat and ended up rushing them. But I think this game will really benefit from this.

In the mean time, I've gathered a few other games SOMA and Obra Dinn, which would be a better one to get started with? Im looking for story rich experience, casual gameplay and horror elements.

Edit: Thanks for replying everyone, i think SOMA is a better game to start for me as I'm really in the mood of horror. And sorry if this wasn't an Outer Wilds related post.

Tech Help How well can Outerwilds run on Macbook?

I really want to play Outerwilds but the problem is that i'm on macbook, specifaclly macbook air m4. Good news is that i have crossover so i'm able to play it. I've played games like deadlock on my macbook and get decent fps, averaging 110fps, but that's with a config i had to download.

I'm just wondering how well it can run, or how well you guys think it could run?

Humor - Base Spoilers My notes from my playthrough Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
46 Upvotes

Heres my notes from my first playthrough!

It's quite funny to look back on and see myself figuring it out over the 12 hours it took me.

I seemed fixated on the forge, thinking I had to bring the core there and repair it in some way. I also spent a full hour trying to align the gravity cannon with the quantum moon haha.

The fast entry to the forge was a red herring for me, making me think it was a bigger part of the picture. The sun station was the biggest difficulty for me, I simply jotted it down as 'door is broke' 😅.

Anyway it was a fun learning experience and by my notes you can see me piece it together towards the end.

I still have the DLC to complete!
