Nemos Reef Revival - Open Source recreation project
Hi All,
Some of you will remember the game Nemo's Reef, which unfortunately shut down back in 2017.
I loved the game at the time and was sad to see today that you could no longer play the game. It looks to be due to the closure of Tapulous Games, which is where the original game calls to, being:http://nemo.pragueweb.tapulous.com/nemo/
So.. I reverse-engineered the APK and restored the game!
I understand this is probably pretty niche, but there seems to be demand out there with a petition to bring it back on change.org. I also selfishly sort of just wanted to play the game myself again, to re-experience it from all that time ago, but decided I wanted to share with the community.
At the moment, you have to self-host the backend. As a result, you will not be able to play with friends unless they are connected to your server. I’ve chosen this approach to reduce potential issues with Disney and avoid collecting or storing players’ personal data for a project based on Disney’s intellectual property. We might avoid a C&D, which would be a real shame if we did.
Background work includes completely decompiling the APK to make it Open Source and run on Windows and Linux. Which again, will help with any C&D issues. That project is about 70% of the way there. We have a countdown for the launch on our website.
Would love for some testers to join our Discord, as there's still a long way to go in finding bugs and improving the gameplay.
The current stage is to improve the economy, due to the now lack of Micro Transactions. (Which I will not be capitalising on at all, this is a non-profit Open Source project. This section will be completely reworked to make the game more enjoyable without it.)
Pearls are now easier to earn, with daily rewards etc.
You can also purchase more Algae with Sand Dollars.
This is the part that needs a lot of testing to see if the new system works, doesn't break the game, or advance you too far ahead, story-wise, to then make the game too easy. It still needs to feel like a challenge and... well.. a game!
Next, there will be improvements to the constant tapping of fast-generating but low-growth Algae and Sand Dollar plants. I'm thinking to change them to no longer generate every few seconds and only show after an extended period. (A bit more like Godus, if you've played that?) This then allows you to customise the reef and play the game, not tap the screen to collect so often.
Ideas welcome.

Lots of new open source games for Linux are being built now – are there videos presenting newly released Linux games?
I'd like to see which kind of games people are building now with the novel AI tools, especially the ones that previously would have taken too much time an/or skills and/or effort and/or financial budgets to ever be done.
Generally, I'm interested in the open source gaming world in terms of new Linux-native releases, especially games whose game mechanics or other ideas are truly novel, whose world is interesting in some ways, or high-resolution 3D games.
Does anybody know some video channel or specific videos that are about presenting multiple new/recent open source Linux games?
Specifically, it should be lots of video games that are presented in the same video, not just one – there's lots of compilation videos like 'New SciFi Windows games 2026' on YouTube with roughly a minute or so per game – are there any such for open source Linux ones only?
Maybe somebody here could start making such videos if no or just very few of such exist, I think many would be interested and it would be a great boost to open source & Linux gaming.

I built a modern, ad-free web version of 3D Pinball Space Cadet with online leaderboards out of pure nostalgia
Hello there !
For three years straight, my coworkers and I spent way too many hours at work playing this absolute classic. Out of pure nostalgia and a desire to see how far I could push it, I decided to build a clean, modern web port of it complete with online leaderboards so we could finally settle the scores properly.
It is a 100 percent free, non-commercial fan tribute to 3D Pinball Space Cadet (along with Dragon's Keep and Skulduggery via DOS emulation from the FullTilt! original game), with zero ads, no tracking, and no monetization.
You can play right in the browser with keyboard remapping, custom CRT filters, and a few visual themes including a full Windows XP and 95 retro style.
Down the road, I would love to dig deeper into the source code of the other two tables to integrate them as smoothly as Space Cadet, but that is a massive undertaking. If you end up giving it a spin, I would love to hear your feedback, bug reports, or tips on how to make it better.
I coded it with gemini's help (i know people prefer claude but i have premium so...)
You can check it out here: webcadet.pages.dev
And here is the github :
https://github.com/ryukhtml/webcadet
I don’t have the money right now to buy a domain but I'll keep you updated !
I'm adding features when i'm off work. It’s still a WIP but it’s going great.
Thanks for the reading !

LeTrain — a procedural train tycoon that lives in your terminal: infinite ASCII world, 100% keyboard, and the rail network is a plain-text file
Free & open source (Apache-2.0) train simulator that runs entirely in your terminal. Character-based world, no mouse, infinite procedural map. Your whole rail network saves as a small text recipe you can commit and share. sudo snap install letrain → letrain-terminal, or build from source with one Maven command.
What it is
LeTrain started as a tiny C++ ASCII experiment back in 2006 and has grown into a Java project (JDK 17+). The terminal client (LeTrain2D) is the classic soul of the game: a railway tycoon built out of letters, numbers and color — and it tries to be honest about what "terminal-native" means:
Terminal-native — renders with Lanterna, no GUI, no browser, happy over SSH. Pure keyboard flow, zero mouse: arrow keys or vim keys (h j k l), mode-based UI (Rails / Add / Drive / Forks / Semaphores / Trains / Programming / Stations…).
Infinite procedural world — lakes, forests and mountains from Perlin noise; every new game drops you at a random coordinate. Full day/night cycle with headlights after dark.
Your network is text — scenarios (.ltr) export your entire network as a small text recipe. The same seed rebuilds the same world, so a scenario travels as a plain file: commit it, diff it, share it.
Scripting + automation — a built-in DSL (ANTLR4) for itineraries, timetables and autopilot:
create itinerary "a" {
add station 1, arrival 9:30, departure 9:35
add station 2, arrival 9:55, departure 9:50
}
assign itinerary "a" to train 1;
train 1 set autopilot true;
Honest trains — real blocks/cantons and semaphores: trains reserve track segments, brake before occupied blocks, and will absolutely crash if you get braking distance wrong. No toys that play by themselves.
Economy — start at $0 (Zero-to-Hero) and haul GOLD / COAL / RUBY between producers and consumers; revenue scales with distance.
Headless validator — letrain-check scenario.ltr checks scenario files and prints file:line:col diagnostics. CI-friendly.
Console — :time set 9:30;, :undo; / :redo;, :save mynet — deterministic undo/redo for construction and state changes.
(There's also a 3D client with the same world and seed if you ever want to see your ASCII empire in perspective — but the terminal is where it started, and in this project the 2D and 3D views are equals.)
Try it
Linux: sudo snap install letrain then run letrain-terminal (the snap also ships the 3D client as letrain).
From source (JDK 17+ and Maven):
git clone https://github.com/antoniovazquezaraujo/LeTrain.git
cd LeTrain
mvn clean package -DskipTests
./output/LeTrain2D/bin/LeTrain2D
Windows / other: grab the zip from Releases (https://github.com/antoniovazquezaraujo/LeTrain/releases) — the launchers are self-contained (runtime included).

If you like building defensive walls and towers, I am looking for gamers to playtest my strategy game on Steam (also source available)
Hi, I am the solo developer of "Virtualord, The Virtual Conqueror" an isometric Turn Based Strategy game with a strong attention to base/defense building and strategy.
In this playtest you will be playing a preview version of the upcoming demo, which basically it's the full thing, minus a few minor features and some stability fixes.
If you are willing to help testing at least the first mission (5-10 minutes) and submitting some feedback (Discord or online form) you can sign up on this Steam page.
If you prefer a more polished and stable experience you can wait until the 6th of November, when I will (hopefully) release the full demo.
Source code of the latest version (0.6.15.1) is available on GitHub.

PlayWeld: an Apache-2.0 workspace for game development — Windows/Linux prerelease
I’m PlayWeld’s creator. It’s a desktop workspace built on Eclipse Theia that keeps game files, design notes, project knowledge, and optional AI-assisted tasks together.
I’d value feedback from people maintaining open-source games: are the notes and task history useful, and where does setup become unclear?
Current Windows/Linux builds are testing prereleases, so please use a disposable project. Engines are installed separately. AI providers need their own setup and may charge for usage or send data off-machine.

Pocket Circle: an open-source, ad free collection of local multiplayer party games
Hey everyone!
I wanted to share Pocket Circle, a free and open-source project I originally started for game nights with friends.
It currently includes four party games, all designed around sharing one phone in the same room.
There are no accounts, ads, analytics, tracking, or gameplay network requests. Player profiles and statistics are stored locally in the browser.
The code is released under AGPL-3.0-or-later.

I'd love to see more small, genuinely free games that don't depend on advertising or subscriptions.
