WeightLifting Why is Olympic weightlifting being cut down so severely?

I'm confused about the situation with weightlifting. The number of weight classes and athlete quotas has been drastically reduced since the past 20 years.

The most common reason I hear is the sport's massive and systemic doping problem. I understand that, but it leads to a bigger question: athletics (track & field) has also been plagued by huge doping scandals for decades. However, Athletics doesn't seem to have been affected much. Why the different treatment?

Edit: I’m checking out for the day y’all! Thanks for taking the time to ask questions and learn more about weightlifting, love the support always 🇺🇸

Hey guys! I’m Kate Nye and I’m super excited to answer any questions you may have for me. I’m the reigning junior and senior world champion in weightlifting and hold every american record in my weight class. I’ve been weightlifting for about 4 years and can’t believe that the Olympics is a big possibility this year! In addition to weightlifting, I attend Oakland University and would like to pursue a career in the medical field post-weightlifting. I also love hanging out with my husband and my GSD pup, Theo. Excited to talk with y’all about anything you want to know, AMA! Instagram: katherineenye

WeightLifting LA28 - has anyone seen any weightlifting tickets?

In both 1st and 2nd drop, there have been zero weightlifting tickets listed when I have looked. No sessions at all. This seems really odd to me because I know it's not as popular as other sports and so I wouldn't have expected them to sell out.

Has anyone been able to buy tickets to any weightlifting sessions?

Or have they not listed any for sale for some reason?

WeightLifting In sports like Olympic weightlifting is everyone at the top on PEDs?

A friend of a friend who competed at the Olympics told me that almost everyone who performs well in any sport is on some kind of PEDs that just can’t be detected yet. It sounds logical in a way, but I can’t really wrap my head around it. How can I fact-check something like that? It makes more sense for sports like weightlifting, but I’m not sure where to even start learning about this stuff.

How come there's no leakers or whistle blowers if this was the case?

WeightLifting why is weightlifting so underrated? it must be in the same league as sprinting.

The weightlifting podium is much more exciting, and they are the fastest, strongest, and most skillful people on the planet.
