I did a thing! My favorite painting after 2 months of learning
I’ve been teaching myself how to oil paint for two months, and in the process, I created this painting, the one I’m proudest of. Even though I’m new to oil painting, I used to color and draw a lot when I was a kid. Something in me had always wanted to paint, and I finally pulled the trigger.

question? Is classic art dead to people?
I’m trying to understand if something is wrong with me works? Are they generally not interesting, or am I promising them wrong. I’m nearly 60 and never in my life did i use social media for anything except of reading news. Now I’m in TikTok because My daughter says it should work but I’m not getting views except of 2 videos…. Or anything else really.
Any advice is appreciated.

UNKIND critique plz Help me finish this please
This is just a small painting under 10x8", painted super quickly. I've had a long break and feel like I've lost my skills and am just trying to get back into it 🥲 I like certain elements of this painting. It's very loose. I would like to refine it a bit further though, and really welcome any advice?
The water seems a bit off, not sure if it's too blue or too flat or both?!

Art question? How do people get this style of “whispy”paintings?
I don’t know what style this called or how to create it? I really love this style but I’m not to sure where to start with it or if it’s in the brushes used or how to navigate it? I’ve attempted in the past to try to blend the lines of where painting and its background touch but it usually just leads it to looking muddy and not the same?
The first artist specifically of the portraits is Tina Figarelli, and her style specially is the one I’m really drawn to I just can’t seem to get a similar “whispy” effect. (The other pictures I found on Pinterest as something similar ish but after posting was informed those are AI so ignore those because it won’t let me delete and the portraits are mainly what I’m interested in)

question? Can I use cooking oil in between colours?
So I basically use them to wash off previous colour then wipe off excess oil/paint before using a new colour. Then I'll leave my brushes dipped in it after I'm done painting for the day.
I can't use solvents atm due to my current living condition and other semi/ fully drying oils are not very affordable where I live.
Will it effect my painting/brushes? I try to wipe them thoroughly in between colours so I don't think I get them on my canvas much. Regardless, lmk if it could be a problem/not suitable

Materials? Was this a good deal for oil paints?
This art store near me was closing and was clearing out all their stuff. I got these four tubes for $122 CAD, wondering if it was a good deal or not because I can’t seem to find some of these exact colours possibly because they are older (Im not sure if w&n makes the permanent sap green in oil anymore?)

question? Interesting paint mixes
I like the greens I get mixing lamp black with ochre or other yellows. I get why this works, but are there any other mixes that don’t align with basic color theory like this?

Art question? Varnishing portrait
Hello everyone. I want to varnish my oil portrait but it’s the first time I will do this I read that Gamblin Gamvar (Gloss) varnish is a good choice? Do any of you guys and any knowledge on varnishing and what I should use? Thanks!

I did a thing! These are some 3 hour portraits, Alla Prima.
All done pretty quickly with a limited palette and interesting lighting.
Hopefully the start of a larger series of small portraits.
