Avon Frustration with Midgett
We were supposed to be in Avon last week but due to the storm, were unable to go. This was the first time in 25 years, so it was bound to happen eventually. We always rent through Midgett and always buy the insurance. Since the entire week was a bust, the policy says we are entitled to a full reimbursement. I called the insurance and started a claim, but the problem is the insurance company is asking for Midgett to provide:
- Proof of Cancellation/Refund. A letter or statement from the travel supplier showing the cancellation date, amount forfeited and amount refunded. If no refunds, the document should indicate the amount paid is nonrefundable.
None of that seems unreasonable to me. I've made two phone calls and an email requesting this, and they seem to be completely caught off-guard. At first they said they can't cancel because it would cancel the insurance policy as well. Then they claimed to be compiling all the information in the background for all their affected customers to provide directly to the insurance. This doesn't make sense to me because they have no idea what the customer's insurance claim numbers are nor would it help those who buy policies on their own.
My last communication with them was via email on Thursday clearly requesting they provide exactly as above. Their response was, they have "forwarded this to our accounting department."
Having to wait is not a problem -- it's the sense of them being confused that has me a bit concerned.
I'm going to give them a few more days before reaching out again.
Is it naive of me to assume Midgett, who has been a rental agency on Cape Hatteras for years, should have a process to easily produce the documentation required for the insurance they resell?
