Thanksgiving dinner from the Farm
Every year we scramble to find a local, fresh turkey, and by the time I remember, half the farms have sold out. So this year I put it all in one place: where to buy every course of Thanksgiving dinner from farms, butchers and bakers in western NJ - Sussex, Warren, Morris, Hunterdon and Somerset counties.
It's organized the way you'd actually plan the meal (appetizers, main course, sides, stuffing and gravy, dessert, drinks), with up to three picks per course in each county. Where a farm has posted this year's order deadline or pickup days, it's on there. A few that are coming up fast:
• Maddalena's (Ringoes): Thanksgiving dinner and pies, order by Nov 10
• Arctic Foods (Washington): prepared dinners, order by Nov 17
• Sussex Meat Packing (Wantage): complete turkey dinners, order by Nov 18
• Kingspring Farm (Stockton): pasture-raised turkeys, said it had 7 left as of last week
You can tap "Add to my table" on the places you want and it builds a Google Maps route for your shopping run.
https://skylandsfood.com/thanksgiving-table/
Full disclosure: it's my site, Skylands Food, an independent guide to local food in NW Jersey. Nobody pays to be on it. Picks are ranked by a few simple rules that are listed on the page: farms that raise their own birds, businesses that have posted 2026 details, and owners who've confirmed their
info.

Best vegetarian/gluten free meals
Hi all haven’t seen a post like this in awhile, sorry if I missed one!
Wondering if anyone has a best restaurant recommendation that can accommodate a gluten free/vegetarian person. Higher end especially appreciated more casual also appreciated. With a group of folks so non vegan/gf dedicated appreciated! Happy to make a resy or anything if difficult to get into.

My husband and I are spending the weekend in NYC for our one year anniversary! We want to go somewhere special for dinner Saturday night (Nov 14). Hoping to get a Lartusi res, but want to make sure we have back ups in case. Here’s what we are looking for:
- budget $500
- we love steak and seafood
- love pasta and good bread
- tasting menu or à la carte
- nothing too artsy fartsy
- looking for romantic vibe
- excellent service
Any recommendations? Thank you! 🙏

Charle’s Pan Fried Chicken is so damn good.
Was in the city yesterday to see ‘The Only Living PickPocket in New York’ (it was excellent btw) at the AMC Lincoln Square and afterwards I walked up to 72nd and got some Charle’s Pan Fried Chicken. Love this place as they really do make killer fried chicken and sides.

Best restaurants to visit during the holidays?
I am visiting in December and am looking for some recommendations on good places to eat around the holidays… Hopefully some places that don’t cost an arm and a leg!!! I do not have a set budget but i’m hoping for places that don’t exceed beyond $100 for two people. I’m not familiar with NYC at all so any recommendations would be very helpful.
Edit - Not sure why i didn’t add this originally…
I am not necessarily a picky eater but these are my top 5 favorites
Ramen/Hotpot
ANY italian food, pizza, pasta, etc.
Steakhouses or seafood (if we were to spend a large amount of money it would be on either of these things)
Mexican
Brunch

debating between a few restaurants to try on a monday trip to NYC.
osteria nonnino - short rib stuffed tortellini
la pizza & la pasta - ragu alla bolognese
patrizia’s - short rib ragu
mason jar nyc - short rib grilled cheese
i am open to other recommendations also.
if you can think of better options that would be on the way from CT to NYC (since that’s where i’m coming from), im open to hearing those too!
as far as dessert - it’ll be around 10:45 at night and i’ll be coming from irving plaza. any recs for dessert nearby other than Levain bakery for some iconic NY cookies? i do love me some dubai chocolate, or cakes/cupcakes/baked goods in general. thanks!

Got a day’s layover and will be staying near JFK. Keen to avoid venturing into central NYC, but I’d love to get some great food. Where would you recommend?
