Why the difference in Epic build access for pharmacy and nursing teams?

• Upvotes

For those of you on Epic-Pharmacy informaticists are often Willow-certified with build access. Nursing informaticists usually aren't, and the build goes through IS analysts.

Why the difference? Do your nursing informaticists have certification or build access? Just a general inquiry as to how/why are two disciplines are treated so differently?

NI-BC Experience

Just recently took the NI-BC exam and wanted to share what helped me in preparation for the exam and answer any questions you may have (because I know reading other people's reddit posts helped me A LOT).

The main sources for studying I used was the mometrix NI-BC book from amazon, the NI scope and standards of practice book, and using claude to help generate questions. I used ANCC's practice questions and the exam outline to ask claude to generate 150 questions at a time to help me prepare. I will say the mometrix book goes way more into depth than necessary for the exam (and I found myself asking claude to help explain certain concepts because the way mometrix would describe it would confuse me); however I do feel that the mometrix book overprepared me for the exam (and I would rather be overprepared than under!!). For the scope and standards book I only highlighted and read through the book once, I mainly focused my time on using the mometrix book and asking claude to help me generate questions. As someone who learns best from doing practice questions, I highly recommend using claude or chatgpt to help you prepare. It not only helped me reinforce concepts I needed to focus on, but it allowed me to mentally be prepared to sit down and answer 150 questions in one sitting.

In the exam, you are able to take breaks however the timer continues, so for me I didn't bother with taking any breaks. I finished answering all questions with 20 minutes to spare and used the remaining time to go over questions I was still unsure about. The thing I like about this format was that the exam allows you to strikethrough, highlight, and flag any question you're unsure about or may want to revisit. DEFINITELY use these tools!! As a huge overthinker these tools allowed me to focus on important parts of the question and minimize overthinking or doubting my choices!

Wishing anyone who plans to take the NI-BC soon the best of luck :)

Practicum Guidance

Hey everyone!

I am about to start my practicum and need some help picking a topic for my project. My preceptor handles case management workflows and insurance authorizations for things like SNFs. What are some good things I can bring to the table that are feasible to complete in the practicum experience?? I have some ideas but I don’t want to go over my head when I’m still a novice.

Thank you in advanced.

P.S. EHR is Epic for reference

Interview Request Need to interview a nurse informaticist!

Hello! I need to interview a nurse informaticist for an assignment for my MSN class. However, I don't know any nurse informaticists around, so I'm hoping someone can answer some interview questions about what it's like to be a nurse informaticist. It does not need to be over the phone or via video, and can be through pm or email. If any nurse informaticist is interested in helping me out, please let me know 🥺

Transitioning from PT to informatics

Are there any PTs out there who transitioned to informatics? It so, what has been your experience? Is this a good idea? What roles should I be looking for? Something like Epic/EHR Analyst? Any advice is appreciated!

EHR/Systems I built an educational NICU nursing documentation prototype using Python and Streamlit

I'm trying to develop my skills at the intersection of nursing practice, clinical informatics, Python, and digital health.

I've been building the Today Nurse NICU Monitoring System, an educational prototype exploring how digital tools can organize neonatal nursing documentation and monitoring workflows.

The project is part of my broader TODAY NURSE initiative, focused on empowering nursing through technology and data.

What I'm exploring:

Structured neonatal documentation

Digital nursing workflows

Python-based healthcare applications

The security and clinical validation requirements of digital health systems

🔗 Live demo: https://today-nurse-nicu-monitor-pgyr3gntfvjyqpqwk6ptcr.streamlit.app/

💻 Source and portfolio:

https://github.com/chanieofficial/

I'm still developing the project and learning what a safer, more reliable healthcare application requires. Constructive technical feedback is welcome.

Disclaimer: This is an educational prototype, not a clinically validated EHR. It must not be used for real patient care or identifiable patient data.

Project Manager interview

Hello all,

I am currently a grad student pursuing nursing informatics, and I would like to interview someone who is currently a project manager in their role. Trying to get a better understanding of the job and the pathway to get there.

Is anyone here a Project Manager and willing to spend some time in the next few days to be interviewed virtually?

Thank you!

RNs needed for burnout research

Hello everybody! I am a current nursing student conducting research on nursing burnout that I plan on presenting at a conference. I would appreciate if any RNs could fill out my quick survey. It only takes about 5-10 mins to complete.

How many nurses / RNs / LVNs / NPs, etc. have moved from the bedside to an informatics or digital health tech role? What were your biggest challenges in making the switch?

Clinical Informatics Nurse

I’m curious about a career in CI. I think I’m done with bedside nursing. Who can tell me what a CI nurse does, what is the biggest challenge? What is the biggest mistake you made or could make? What makes you feel full and what leaves you empty? Do you ever look back?

Career Manager & org denied Epic Self-Study/Proficiency approval. How did you break into Health IT after a flat-out "No"?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I’m currently in a clinical role at a large health system and actively preparing for a transition into Health IT / Epic Analyst roles. I recently tried to request access to complete Epic Proficiency via self-study on UserWeb during my own time.

My org’s training admin initially rejected it, so I appealed directly to my manager to see if he would sign off—and he gave me a firm "no."

Since internal sponsorship for self-study is off the table:

Has anyone else faced a hard refusal from their management team for self-study access?

How did you build a competitive resume for an entry-level analyst position without UserWeb access?

Did you focus on external technical skills (SQL, database fundamentals, system workflows, Excel) to land a role at an org that would sponsor your certification upon hire?

I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who took the scenic route into Health IT when their current employer wouldn't support their learning path.

Healthcare workers: How have EHRs affected communication and workload? (3-5 min)

Hi everyone!

I am a Leaving Certificate student in Ireland currently completing my Business Additional Assessment Component (AAC).

I'm researching how the implementation of Electronic Health Records (EHRs) has affected communication and workload among healthcare workers in hospitals.

I'm looking for healthcare workers who have experience using an EHR/ERP system to complete my anonymous survey.

It should take between 3-5 minutes to complete

Survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/66DKKYJ

The survey focuses on your experience with EHRs and doesn't ask for any patient or confidential information.

Thank you!
