I played New World during all three betas.
Back then, I was single, had plenty of free time, and was really excited about the game.
When it finally launched, I played all the way to max level, but eventually quit because of all the issues it had.
Fast forward to 2025.
I'm married now, and in July, my first daughter was born.
As any new parent knows, those first few months can be pretty exhausting. My wife and I started taking turns staying awake with our daughter so the other could get some sleep.
I usually stayed up until around 3 AM.
One night, I started wondering what I could play on my PS5 to help me stay awake and pass the time.
That's when I decided to give New World another shot.
And man, the game had changed so much.
There were people everywhere, the game felt alive again, and I remember seeing peaks of around 40k concurrent players. It really felt like things were going well.
I was genuinely enjoying it.
Night after night, I'd be sitting on the couch with my daughter sleeping in my arms, playing New World while my wife got some much-needed rest.
Sometimes I'd be gathering, sometimes doing quests, sometimes just running around Aeternum.
Nothing crazy, really. Just enjoying the game while my little girl slept and my wife got some rest.
Then, after what I thought was one of the best updates the game had received, we suddenly got the news that New World was shutting down.
I was honestly surprised. The game seemed to be doing so well again.
After that, I decided to stop playing.
By then, a few months had passed. My daughter was sleeping more regularly, and those long nights were slowly becoming a thing of the past.
And now, knowing that Aeternum will eventually disappear, I can't help but feel a little sad.
Someday my daughter will grow up, and she probably won't even know what New World was.
She won't remember those nights, but I will.
I'll remember sitting on the couch at 2 AM, with the TV on and my daughter sleeping in my arms, just wandering around Aeternum.
It's funny how a game can become part of such a specific time in your life.
Thanks for the memories, New World.
I'll miss this game...
