I’m a pathetic fraud and my flesh has betrayed me
I’ve lived a lie. Drank my milk, looked down on the brittle, prevailed in all things physical with what I believed to be a superior skellington. I was dreadfully, unimpeachably wrong.
Attempting to make a soccer save last week, my fingertip met ground. The tendon took its opportunity to finally steal a victory in the eternal flesh vs. bone struggle - rather than succumbing and snapping as it should have, the blasted thread pulled a piece of bone away with it (avulsion fracture).
I am disgusted, ashamed, and set adrift. My identity is in tatters, my existence an attestation to the infinite unknowable of one’s own ignorance. I refused to see the X-ray imagery, revolted to even picture the brittle calcium that has always been within me. That I so foolishly found confidence in.
How will I go on? What can I trust? Why have my genetics forsaken me?
It is not for this community to ponder, let alone worry. I am not worthy. I yearn for your certainty, but heed my warning as I depart: the flesh cannot be trusted.
