Images & GIFs in comments, plus iPhone Duo support!

Many of you have been waiting a long time for this one. If you'd rather keep your comments text-only, new settings let you set up Narwhal exactly the way you like.

New:

• Images & GIFs in comments - Images and GIFs now appear inline with comment text, so you don't have to open links to see them. Tap any image to view it full screen.
• Added a setting to disable images in comments if you prefer to keep things text-only in Settings > Comments
• Control whether you would like GIFs to autoplay in comments via a new option in Settings > Comments
• iPhone Duo support - Narwhal now supports iPhone Duo. I don't have a device to test on, so please report any bugs you find on r/narwhalapp!
• Flair images - Images in user flairs now appear inline too. Shoutout to r/hockey and r/nfl for repping your teams!
• Added a setting to disable images in flairs in Settings > Comments

Improved:

• Share Comment as Image now has an option to include the post's self text.

Fixed:

• Fixed text getting cut off in some shared comment images.
• Fixed two long-standing crashes that were especially tricky to track down.
• Fixed YouTube videos not loading in the native video player.

This happens randomly, instead of loading in the dedicated player it loads the browser page and fails to load the video. If I open the page in my full browser the video works.

Does anyone know how to fix this? It's been going on for a few weeks now. Thanks!

Not sure if this is a bug report or a functionality clarifier, but I've just recently started using Narwhal the past few days (your Reddit ad of "you wouldn't be seeing this on Narwhal!" got me) and for the most part it's been great! But I've noticed my Messages section seems to be really unusual - the icon's always displaying as lit and orange, whether I have any new messages or not. And the sorting for it seems to be defaulting to comments from several months ago rather than the actual most recent ones.

Not sure if there's a setting somewhere I'm missing, if there's a bug, or if that's just how that section works on Narwhal.

I just updated the app and it shifted the post/comment jump button to the right side of the screen. Is there a way to put it back in the middle of the screen? I’m not a lefty, but I use my phone with my left hand. This kills the usability of the app for me…

For reference, I’ve tried several things in settings but the jump button stays on the right side. I’m hoping I’m just missing an obvious setting.

Can you not save images directly from the screen where you see all the posts? Seems like a pretty basic feature… I subscribed to Narwhal after Multitab closed down and missing this basic feature has me considering canceling my subscription.

If not, does anyone know of a reddit app that will do this? I did notice somebody else ask this three months ago, but their post was wholly ignored.

Api issue? Running the latest update and have internet connection

This has happened before but today it seems relentless - text entry of comments seems to disregard line breaks entirely. Everything I submit becomes a wall of text no matter what I do or how many times I edit. Is this something anyone else has experienced? I’m on iOS 26.6.1.

I've been customising Narwhal to make it feel more like a traditional news reader, and I'm actually getting pretty close. There are a few things I'd love to see added, though:

1. Custom line spacing. Being able to adjust line height for post titles and comments would make a big difference to readability, especially when using larger fonts.

2. Text previews without images. I'd love to see the first few lines of a text post directly in the Home feed, without having to use Big Preview Mode and its large media previews. Ideally, we could choose how many lines to display.

3. Filtering by post type. An option to completely exclude image, GIF, video and gallery posts from the Home feed would be great. I know thumbnails can already be hidden, but I'd like to filter out the actual posts, preferably with separate toggles for each media type.

4. Comment filtering. Something similar to the existing post-title filters, but for comments. For example, being able to automatically hide comments containing specific keywords or placeholders like [removed] and [deleted].

I mostly use Reddit for reading rather than interacting, so I'm trying to get a clean, text-first experience with as little visual clutter as possible.

Not sure if any of these are already planned, or technically difficult to implement, but I thought I'd put them out there. Thanks!

It could easily go on the bar with all the other formatting options. It’s quite difficult to type yourself especially on a phone. A shortcut would be super helpful.

Basically the title. R/baseball and r/nfl should be filled with highlight videos today, but I only see text posts (like post-game threads).

Weirdly, r/soccer is showing highlight videos.

Is this a narwhal issue, a Reddit issue, or a me issue?

Is there a way to get to the TestFlight? Just got the duo and would love to try the duo optimised beta of narwhal

This build includes initial support for the iPhone Duo. It should have a two column layout when the Duo is expanded. Please let me know if you find any bugs.

What do you guys think of basically making the iPhone Duo work exactly as if it’s the iPad app?

So if you look through the screen grab that I just did, several of the screenshots that I posted in my other post, now open up properly and some don’t. It’s weird what it’s doing

Some video posts open the Reddit website. Eventually the post can't be interacted with because it tells you to use the Reddit app. Anyone know what is causing this or how to stop it?
