Looking for old wattpad book

Looking for an old Wattpad romance (before 2020) — former sniper × bubbly computer genius

I'm trying to find a Wattpad book I read before 2020.

The female lead was a petite, white, quirky girl, similar in personality to Azalea from Lilah. The male lead was Black-and-white biracial, grumpy, and I think a former sniper/hitman who worked with a group of men and possibly ran a private security company.

I remember that she was hiding in a room when he found her. At some point, they were staying together somewhere, possibly on vacation or hiding from danger.

The scene I remember most clearly: His computer had a problem, and she secretly fixed it. He only discovered that she was exceptionally good with computers when he watched surveillance-camera footage of her repairing it.

I believe it was a standalone romance, not a series. Does anyone remember the title or author?

Help finding a horror short story about a (class?) pet

I remember reading a short story years ago that ends with a little girl killing a pet (maybe a class pet) but I can’t find it again or remember what it’s called. I think the title was a number, like the number of bones she breaks, but I’m not sure.

Help Identifying a Lost Piece of Short Horror Fiction

As it says in the title, im trying to track down a piece of short horror fiction i read in an anthology I no longer own. The story would have been from the 90s. Can't recall the name, the author or the anthology, I'm afraid, and AI has made searching for an obscure piece of genre literature nearly impossible.

The story is about a rain maker in a world stricken by supernatural drought. He is in pursuit of a rogue apprentice who has been making it rain unnatural things. He comes to a desolate town, gets attacked by desperate locals, and resorts to a canteen or "black water" whose properties are never fully explained, but is apparently vile. He eventually tracks his apprentice down to the town hall which is crawling with tortured ghosts.

If anyone has any idea what this could be, I'd be in your debt.

Unsolved Horror short story with demons inside pages of books/mags/newspapers et al.

Hullo all, and happy spooky season! The short story I'm searching for is probably from the last 30 years or so, and I think I read it in one of the terrific (and much missed) annual anthologies called The Year's Best Fantasy and Horror, edited by Terri Windling and Ellen Datlow. In the story, a woman can see some kind of evil entities whenever she reads anything, even advertisements. So she hides in her apartment, and blocks out the windows so she can't read billboards or bumper stickers or the ads on commercial vehicles. I seem to recall that she pays a boy to read the newspaper to her. Does this ring any bells? Thanks!

Unsolved Magical FBI Agent Wakes Up Next to a Woman's Corpse, Can't Remember Night Before. Read in 2010s, I believe.

I don't think he was technically part of the FBI, but he was part of a secret organization that filled a similar role in the supernatural underworld and used the FBI as a cover. It may have had the word paranormal in the name.

He was specifically described as a "witch," not a wizard, and I believe he was of Latino descent. There was also something about sensing magic through his nose, unlike most witches, which he thinks is embarrassing because it sometimes makes him sneeze.

It's an occult detective action story, so he ends up accused of the murder, so he runs off, and looks for a necromancer or possibly medium, who can question the corpse for him, and the plot twist is that he actually did kill the woman. The second plot twist is that he killed her because she was a hit woman sent after him by a local incubus who he'd pissed off on a previous case.

I also remember there being a secret street in the city (which I want to say is Los Angeles, but I could easily be wrong) which witches had allied with a demon lord or so forth to make invisible to normal people.

My memories of the cover or vague, but I think it was him holding a gun (possibly cocked or at the viewer?) on a blue background.

Unsolved Urban fantasy novel from the 2000s about fire or lava elementals emerging from the ground

Was a fiction book. Was about two teens, one male and one female (There may have been third major character who would have been a friend of the other male character), in a modern setting. The main plot revolved around these fire elementals coming up from the ground and causing havoc. Pretty sure it followed the standard plot of no one else being aware and/or able to do something.

I remember that there were two books in the series at the time, but i feel like it had been several years since the second book released, that the story ended on a cliffhanger after they discovered the tunnels where the elemental fire creatures were coming from. Book cover for one of them I feel like it featured that underground fire tunnel.

Definitely took it out from the library in Canada in between 2008 and 2010. Also, fairly sure they weren't older than early 2000s.

"Edventure" Children's Picture Book Series

I've read a few books from this series as a child, where school kids go on a trip to this learning centre/experience park. I could've sworn it was called "Edventure Land" or "Edventure Park" (a play on Education + Adventure), but when I google it nothing comes up. It's definitely not The Magic School Bus, which everyone I've asked has suggested.

Some other things I remember:

  1. One of the books was about the nose, where the kids could climb into an oversized model of a nose and then slide down through the nostril with cushions? resembling red blood cells.
  2. The other one had a heated "Sahara" room with sand and a cold "Arctic" one with snow.
  3. The last "experience" I remember the kids went to was "mother of pearl" where they had to wear these special garments? that became shiny in the end, like a pearl.
  4. The kids used special tokens to pay for the experiences. I think they were also called some variant of "Edvent tokens" or something.

I would love to finally remember what this was. It's been driving me crazy. Thank you in advance!

YA novel about a very bad kids baseball team, but one of the kids starts printing baseball cards of fake players that then join their team and are very good at baseball

I read this book in the mid to late 2000s, basically a bunch of friends are on a team but suck at baseball. Once one of them starts printing baseball cards for really good players, they start joining the team and the team becomes really good, but then all the friends who suck at baseball aren't playing anymore and it stops being fun. Ultimately it becomes a question about whether winning is actually the point of sports, or whether it's about enjoying time with your friends.

I feel like it was called the Newton Nobodies or something like that, although searching that hasn't yielded any results. Maybe the team was the Newts?

What is the name of this book?

There is a book about a male realtor who is fired and dumped and he is willed a “body guard“ basically. The body guard has some sort of magical powers, and in all of this, he is protecting him because he is a good guy and some people are trying to take him out. There is a girl in the story who the main character develops a crush on. There is also some background on the main characters school…it was some sort of special school as well!
Any help would be appreciated!!! Thank you it is boggling my mind because I can’t think of it.

Unsolved Help me please! Plane Crash start.

A woman gets dropped off to the airport by her friends and she boards the plane. There is a man sitting next to her on the plane who explains that he has a wife and a child on the way back in London. (The main character may have been leaving on a work trip. Before they get far on takeoff, the plane crashes onto the motorway right near the airport. Conveniently, her friends were on that highway. MC survives but has to go through significant therapy as she now has a phobia of planes. She and her friends eventually take a road trip to go stay in an Airbnb in the town where her therapist is living, coincidentally it’s the same town where MC grew up (could have either been Scotland or Ireland). Throughout the book she faces troubles on having to go visit her mother as they had ended on bad terms. I do remember at one point her friends take a monster truck with huge wheels to a party. Throughout the whole time she’s there, there’s a grumpy painter man who lived next door. This is relevant because at the very end of the book, after slowly warming up to each other over however long she’s there, they fall in love.

Please help me find this book! I borrowed it from my Aunt in 2022 and I cannot for the life of me remember what the title is. She has way too many book and lives in a different state so asking her is out of the question. I’ve tried to look it up online and have found books similar but not this. Please! It would be very much appreciated!

Unsolved Historical fiction - girl gets a paintbox from anonymous giftgiver

[x-posted!] Unfortunately, I don't remember a lot about this book, but here's what I know:

* written in the late 20th century (I read it in the 90s but it may have been older)
* possibly YA fiction
* historical fiction with a romance plot; there may have been a mystery plot too
* may have been set in 19th century America
* the main character was a girl/young lady who received a box of paints (watercolor, maybe?) as an anonymous gift.
* the MC assumed or hoped that the gift came from one potential love interest, but it was actually from someone else - a guy she didn't like as much, who ended up being endgame

I don't remember ANYTHING about the larger plot. But the incident of a young artist receiving a paintbox as a present and being wrong about who gave it to her has stuck in my head!

Book about captive teen who was abducted

I read this book when I was about 14 years ago so I can BARELY remember details, But I remember a young child (female) is abducted and held captive in a basement for YEARS, dad never stops looking (he may have been a cop/detective, Im unsure), the title of the book was one word and I'm pretty a3ure a male writer. The cover of the book had a side profile of a car. I believe it was set in midwest. I believe a fiction book. I remember a scene where the girl is in a car, but compliant with the kidnapper. I can't remember much more, but I can't seem to find it no matter how I word my google searches. 😅 thanks in advance if anyone can solve my dilemma! Edit to add: it was arpund 2012-2013 and I'm located in USA.

Romance(?) book about a movie actress who gets lost in the wilderness/snowed in with a guy?

I read this book at least 10 years ago and I would love to reread if I could find it. It was about a movie actress/producer/writer who gets snowed in/lost in the wilderness with her guide/bodyguard. I think she was a red head. If I remember correctly it had a white cover and pink binding. It was also steamy

YA supernatural fantasy about a rebellious girl who is washed onto an island where time doesn't exist

Hi everyone, I'd appreciate some help finding this book I read as a child back in early 2000s. I cannot recall a publishing year.

The plot is as follows - a young teen girl (our protagonist) is annoyed with the adults constantly restricting her freedoms. She wishes to find a place where kids run the society where she can be free. She lives on a coast and has heard rumours of a place beyond the fog, where a long lost older relative was once supposedly lost to sea. One day she ends up taking the boat by herself, gets caught in a freak storm and ends up on the island where kids run the island, nobody ages, and everybody parties all the time. She's initially happy, but eventually gets tired of it and wants to go home. The secret of the island is that if anyone leaves, it gets destroyed. The others therefore don't want her to leave. A slightly older boy helps her escape and she figured out he was the long lost older relative, thereby leading to the destruction of the island and the demise of all the inhabiting "kids". When she's back to her worried parents, not much time has passed in the real world, despite her spending a long time on the island. The fog disappears and the island is nowhere to be found again.

I think it wasn't illustrated, just a long ish (200 pages +) novel, but written for young adults. It did contain chilling descriptions of deep blue waters and such that gave me thalassophibia as a kid.

Adult mystery, main character is a woman who is a Vietnam vet (nurse). Got it from the public library circa 2000, but felt it was fairly old / had been published years before. It was a series but not Echo Company.

I remember it being set in the southern part of the US (though I could be wrong). Lots of 1970's vernacular was used in the dialogue. She had a bunch of empathy for fellow vietnam vets struggling with PTSD since she had it herself, though she had a job and could function normally. Can't remember the exact mystery but think one of the vets she knew was being accused of murder or else a murderer was stalking the vets.

Looking for older romantic thriller

Looking for older romantic thriller. I remember some of the plot lines, but no names.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Female main character is an (ER) doctor who is an avid rider and owns a horse barn.
She falls in love with an (FBI)? agent who is tasked with secretly observing her.
They break up after she finds out about his spying on her. The agent gets stabbed (with a screwdriver?) and she saves his life by doing emergency surgery.
The female character is a doctor, the male is an agent. AI reverses the jobs and completely different books show up.
Thanks for your help!

Unsolved Children's books I read in the 80s (UK)

UK children's book, probably 1980s, heard as a library audiobook cassette.I remeber an old man gives a boy a lucky charm and dies shortly afterwards. The charm has rules: while you keep it you have good luck, if you lose it your luck turns bad, and if you give it away your luck goes back to normal. The boy crosses a river, I think as part of a bet or dare with another boy, who was injured trying a similar crossing. Is just a glimpse of a memory but I remember enjoying I so much and I'd love to read it again!

Unsolved Young adult book read in very early 2000s. Boy travels back in time to rescue teenagers from a hay-bale fire and later revisits the day his father died in a car crash and his sibling died or was injured.

I think it was a trilogy series. He’s dad and sibling were in a car accident and dad died and the sibling either died or was badly injured. I think he used a watch to time travel and only had a certain amount of time. He would go back in time and save people but he wasn’t allowed to change too much. I remember that he went back to save two teens who were camping and accidentally lit a hay bail on fire. The last book he goes back to the day of the accident and he can’t save his dad but he does save the sibling. It might have been an Australian book.

Unsolved Short sci-fi story- Alien medic visits a farm on earth, father rejects help for his neurodevelopmentally delayed child.

This was a story in a sci fi magazine, possibly Asimov, some time in the 80s or 90s. (It was definitely one of those transcribed for the blind, as that's how my friend originally read it)

The main detail is that the girl has a cat. The alien medic, after being rebuffed by the farmer, decides to give the cure to the cat instead, giving it intelligence.

I've been looking for this for a friend for some time now- don't ask Gemini, it could only find my old search for the story.

Any help would be great. Thanks!

Political thriller from the 1940s/50?

I remember reading this paperback on my parents' shelves when I was in grade school, mid 1960s. The paperback was already yellowed.

A resistance fighter in a vaguely American/European country under fascist rule proves his loyalty after watching his comrades being shot in prison. It turns out Goebbels villain is actually the leader of the resistance as well, determined to make everything so terrible that the people must rise up against their fascist government.

I remember being particularly moved when our hero learns that Goebbels character was assassinated just after the successful uprising and he realizes no one else will ever know what he did for his people.

I've been looking for this for decades!

PS it is not Heinlein's If This Goes On.
