Reading pattern

Post image

Hello, I am a beginner and this is my first big project. I am reading the pattern and I just have some questions. On row 9 column 98 and 99 there are no double stitches but there is on column 97 but they are all the same color. The same thing happens on row 19 column 100 and 101. I am wondering if this could be a typo or if this is normal and will look fine in the end.

Do you mind sharing what it's supposed to look like when it's done or maybe where you purchased it? This doesn't look like it makes any sense to me. Wondering if it could be AI. Nonsensical AI patterns are unfortunately a huge problem right now.

It's mountains with trees.l, I got it off Etsy. I was wondering it was AI and I didn't really want to start it, if it is going to have problems.

There's definitely more rows where an x was missed, rows 25, 11, 15 on top of the ones you mentioned. Two same colored boxes on top of one another are technically impossible in mosaic, but worked as written those will just come out at as a single row of white instead of two, like that little white box on rows 7 and 8. You could definitely try, it might turn out kinda okay, but there will be some troubleshooting along the way.

Row 18 every single stitch is in the dark color you never ever switch to white. You’re doing it incorrectly

Just because the box is white the WHOLE row is color B, every stitch

That box is light IF you wanted to add a 3 rd color you know where to stop and end it.

It’s simply 2 SC on top of each other. Row 18 is one color and row 19 is the other, they are NOT the same color

Girl, if one row is colour A and the other is colour B, how tf do you end up with white SCs on top of each other.

I was mostly looking at the places that have two white boxes stacked up, like row 8, but the white stitches will clearly end up the dark color on those rows, but now I'm realizing that that is consistent throughout, at least on this section of the pattern. Maybe it's just the way this designer writes their patterns, but it's weird. I've never seen that before.

You are not doing this correctly. Each row is a color, so row 1 is color A, the whole row is color A. The X is where you double crochet and the blank ones are a single crochet. Same color the whole row. You go right to left and cut off at each end, then you start the second color row 2, at the end you cut off. Then row 3 is back to color A

Make sense?

Yeah, I get that. I just felt like some of the single crochets should be double crochets, like some were missed being marked

What are they doing incorrectly? They bought the pattern off Etsy. My guess is that its AI because the two boxes of white on top of each other without a DC doesn't work in standard mosaic.

There is no 2 white on top of each other, I’m not sure you understand how to use this graph.
You’re not looking at the color in the graph look at the color by the row numbers the color alternates. Each row says A or B
Look at row 17… stitch 4 that is color A single crochet. Then row 18… stitch 4 that is color B single crochet

I know there's alternating rows. I've made quite a few mosaic projects. But there are currently two rows of white SC on top of each other. The only way that normally works is if there is another row of white on top of it with an X to dictate a DC. As the graph currently reads, row 18 (the grey row) has white SCs that aren't possible (because there is no white X above it). I suggest you try to make these couple of rows and tell us how you do.

Yes, I see theres a grey X two rows above the white in row 18. But that means if you make row 18 grey, no matter what you do, your finished product is gonna end up looking extremely different from what the pattern portrays.

I beg of you, try to make this with just like 10-15 rows horizontally. Because a row of colour A is ALWAYS gonna be a colour A single crochet, a colour A double crochet or a colour B with an X in colour B above it. Same thing the other way around.

Good catch! That definitely looks like a typo. I would write in Xs there to remember it. The way it’s written, those squares would be the darker color, not white.

The coloring on the pattern gives you a visual of what your overall picture will look like. Your row color is often different. That will be indicated at the beginning of the row. The instructions should say this in the beginning pages of the pattern.

If things start to look weird, contact the designer and ask. Most of the time patterns are accurate. But I’ve recently had to re-chart an entire pattern because the chart was all kinds of messed up. Luckily I was able to do it, because I really wanted this pattern. If I didn’t want it so much I would have chucked it and talked to the designer about how awful it was. Hopefully this works out for you 😊

Yeah, there are quite a few missed X's. The pattern doesn't make a lot of sense. It might be AI.

This is most likely an AI pattern. The only way you can have two rows of the same colour with no double crochets is by doing two white rows in a row. But, for the pattern to work you do need to alternate your colours each row. This is gonna be the same for all the other moments where there's only two squares of white instead of three.

There are several places in this pattern where the coloring is impossible as shown. It’s not as simple as a couple missed X’s. I would choose a different pattern from a reputable designer.

That pattern doesn't work. Not only are Xs misding, row 22 is in dark colour, column 92 and 93 can't be light unless you'd have a dc there in row 23, but 23 is dark and no X, so no dc. Same happens in row 32 and row 8. Maybe the colouring of this graph is just off, but this really looks like AI-slob.
