Mini Aussie Monday Mini Aussie Monday Feature: Matilda Mother

Today we're excited to showcase Matilda Mother, submitted by u/DynaBella

Matilda Mother, aka Maya, is a 6yo MAS.

Her pawrent describes her as a "wild card" and her favorite food is Baklava.

Her favorite toys are sticks and any treat stashed in a hidden box. She loves tearing through the house frantically searching and ripping that box open.

Her pawrent says she's a huge Pink Floyd fan. I'm guessing her favorite album is Bark Side of the Moon.

Big thanks again to their pet parent for submitting them! Matilda is our featured Mini Aussie of the week representing our sub.

Mini Aussie Monday Mini Aussie Monday Feature: Fable

Post image

Today we're excited to showcase Fable, submitted by u/articulateantagonist

Fable is a one year old MAS who also answers to BEAN! 🫘

Fable is their first mini Aussie and has totally defied their expectations. She's mild-mannered, gentle, calm, collected. This is pretty normal from what I understand, but she's also extremely affectionate and wants to go everywhere with me. She's not destructive, she loves people, and she loves hiking, camping, and hanging out at breweries. 🏞️

Fable's pawrent is an author, and Fable attends all of their book signings (as long as dogs are allowed in the store). Fable's favorite food is pumpkin. 🎃

Until recently, she adored a little fox toy that unfortunately met its end, so she's moved on to a tiger. She is best friends with their Brittany Spaniel, Obi. 🐯

Big thanks again to their pet parent for submitting them! Fable is our featured Mini Aussie of the week representing our sub.

Any suggestions on getting him to potty outside when it's raining? It's going to be a long winter if we can't figure this out!

This gal’s turning into a bit of a diva. She doesn’t like the cold/wet, so she got herself a puff jacket!
So far she’s been pretty pleased with her purchase.

Seeking Advice Help/ Advice weird scabs on my dog

My girl nova has developed a few of these weird scabs on her side near her belly and hind quarter. They kind of start as a hard scabs maybe 1/2" in size and eventually flake off into a red patch. She is very active outdoors playing in grass and rolling around. She had a similar patch before on her back and the vet said it was most likely a hot spot reccomend us to clean it with douxoS3 wipes. So I've been doing the same with these little spots aswell but being a worried dog dad im taking her to the vet again tomorrow to have these looked at, just wondering if anyone else has have seen this before, thank you for any help !

boyfriend found a new reason to get his professional camera back out.

ETA: We thought she was much smaller in person than we expected, so we did some research. She’s either on the lower end of the mini Aussie weight scale or she’s actually a toy Aussie. She’s exactly three months and only 6 pounds (also completely healthy). Either way: 😍

A walk by the brook

Post image
85 Upvotes

Here is my boy (15/16wk) on a 30/45 minutes walk on a greenway. We have been going to parking lots and asphalt sidewalks since 2 vax as advised by our vet. He is a lucky boy who probably won’t be neutered as our vet says last research are against it except for specific reasons.

Tomorrow he will get his third shot.

He is very clever, he knows: sit, down, paw, high five, touch, roll, stay and drop it. He is a vocal boy since third day and we are slowly improving. He is a shark and hurt our feet and hands but without making us bleed…

We are always home with him but if we take him for a walk then we can leave him alone without fuss (we have not gone beyond 1h:30m as that’s the time we need to take groceries but we will work on it)

Teeth cleaning

We have an MAS that’s almost 4 and we’ve done our best to clean his teeth. Our vet hasn’t mentioned cleanings at yearly checkups and we’ll ask her about it directly, but we our pup’s breath gas been pretty bad for ~6 months so we are considering whether he might need his teeth cleaned.

I guess I’m wondering if anybody has advice/experience with having a professional teeth cleaning with these dogs that they might share.

Lucario clearly had a rough day yesterday: walking my little sister to school with me, playing with his husky sisters and pug brother, and a fierce game of tug of war before bed. Oh, he "stole" a pillow I was going to use. Yeah, he has the hardest life out there. Wish I could sleep that hard after such a rough day.

Seeking Advice Need some advice

My 7-month-old Mini Aussie is overly enthusiastic. On walks, he tries to jump into the arms of everyone we pass, and it’s even worse when he sees other dogs. I’ve tried to redirect his attention using treats, toys, and so on, but nothing seems to help. He isn’t being aggressive—he just jumps around, pulls, and whines out of pure excitement.

I would also like to start agility with him, but I’m afraid he won’t be able to focus if we join a beginner’s course.

Tips on teaching her to howl?

Thumbnail
gallery
277 Upvotes

I’ve taught her everything else!

She can bark, woof (softer bark), and growl on command.

She is VERY vocal in general, and loves to grumble, growl, boof, whine, groan and grunt to communicate.

She knows all the basics - sit, down, shake, spin around, roll over, and even dance and play dead and “gimme kiss.”

(She also knows “come” but she decides herself whether she actually wants to or not lmao)

But I CANNOT, for the LIFE of me, get her to howl.

She CAN howl - she’s done it 3 times - always when I have just left the house and she’s upset about it. The first time was when she was still a baby and the dryer was also running and we think the noise and me leaving made her sad hehehe

All the other “talking” I’ve taught her, I did it by doing the noise myself like 50 times until she does it too, and then rewarding her like crazy. They each only took a day or 2 for her to pick up.

But no matter how much we howl at her, or show her howlies videos on YouTube,

She. Will. Not. Howl. On command.

So - any tips for my stubborn girl? We’ve been trying for over a year.

This is the hill I’m gonna die on lol

Discussion Herding balls?

So, I want to get my MAS, Lucario, a herding ball, but I can't find one that's not, like, $50 or more, or cheap that has awful reviews. Any suggestions?

Best renal support food that she'll actually eat?

Can anyone recommend a good renal support food that their dog actually liked enough to eat? Our girl was just diagnosed with kidney disease. She's been vomiting and had diarrhea for the past week. We thought it was a bug she picked up when we boarded her for a few days, but it wasn't getting better.

She was also diagnosed with pancreatitis and Lyme disease. The technician said the Lyme disease caused the kidney disease. We're hoping her numbers get better when she's properly hydrated. She's on her third day of IV fluids today and one more tomorrow. The pancreatitis is the big problem right now because she's nauseous and no food is appealing to her. We ordered a couple of the renal support options on Chewy - Hills and Forza. We'll see if any of it works.

The vet put her on Azodyl, Vetoquinol Epakitin, Metronidazole, and Doxycycline. And of course the last two have to be taken with food, which she has no interest in. They also suggested Panoquell at $220/shot for three shots for the pancreatitis if the oral medications don't work. We'll do that if the vomiting continues.

This is a dog that was running and chasing balls on the beach just 12 days ago with no symptoms.
