We would like to formally introduce you to our brand new Minerals Discord Server!

This community has been months in the making and was created for the passionate members of r/Minerals and our sister Subreddits to have a dedicated space for discussions that go beyond what is allowed in our Subreddits.

Here, you can:

  • request IDs for minerals (this includes polished minerals and gemstones).
  • share memes.
  • share and get tips for displaying your collections.
  • dive into in-depth discussions about all things minerals.
  • showcase artwork inspired by minerals.
  • discuss pricing and value of minerals.
  • advertise or discover vendors.
  • participate in giveaways.
  • and more!

This Discord Server is not meant to replace r/Minerals or any of our sister Subreddits, but to empower and grow our community. Sometimes it's just nice to have a place to chat.

Our ultimate goal is to build a comprehensive database and an active, welcoming community for mineral enthusiasts of all kinds. Our moderators have spent countless hours researching minerals in order to provide you with educational content.

This server is still a work in progress, and we’re excited to finally share it with you. Please bear with us as we continue to grow and refine this space. Your feedback, contributions, and patience are invaluable as we develop this server into something truly special.

✨💎Featuring: A smoky quartz cluster (one of my fave pieces from these hauls!) and black tourmaline (schorl) with mica; velvet malachite, pyrite, amethyst, red aventurine (red quartzite with iron-rich inclusions), tumbled moss 'agate' (chalcedony) and a small smoky quartz with lovely iridescence ("rainbows", but actually colour interference patterns); and ruby zoisite, tumbled fluorite and Hawk's Eye (blue Tiger's Eye, here mixed with the gold variation), alongside lapis-lazuli, tourmalinated quartz and garnet bracelets.

So so green so so gorgeous and so so dusty? New hobby is looking outside my geology building in the specimen waste pile for cool shit. Thought it was copper but seems weird for it to still be so vibrant after being outside for so long and suspect it may be something far more sinister. Ive found a concerning amount of asbestos there so nuclear waste wouldn't be that much of a reach. Anyways i really want it so Imk if it|l kill me or whatever

Picture/Video My finds from the Munich Gem Show!

My no. 1 goal to find - Garnet in matrix from Tirol, Austria. I've recently moved to Tirol and have found plenty of garnet here whilst hiking, but nothing of notable size or quality. This is about the size of a phone.
Fluorite from China - I saw this type with the purple edges for the first time on this sub, and knew I'd have to grab one if I saw it!
Fluorite from the Okorusu Mine, Namibia - I've seen so many beautiful pieces from this mine and whilst I hope to one day have a cranberry coloured piece, I thought this colour combination was so interesting.
There's also small clear and purple cubes on the underside.
Vivianite from Brazil - my other major goal of this trip. This gorgeous piece has green and blue throughout, but was *very* hard to photograph. And of course, she's had her 20 seconds in the sun and is now tucked away in the dark.

Picture/Video Galena (PbS) from Lavrion, Greece — 142 g specimen

A 142 g galena specimen from the historic Lavrion mining district in Attica, Greece.

It features shiny, silver-gray metallic crystals embedded in a white crystalline matrix.

Galena is the main ore of lead, but Lavrion is also famous for its silver-bearing lead ores. The ancient mines played an important role in Athens' economy, helping finance its powerful navy during the 5th century BC.

A fascinating connection between mineralogy and ancient Greek history!

ID Request Any ideas what this might be? Fake?

Picked this up at a rock show a little while back. The label said mordenite + stilbite. It says its from Maharashtra, India. The matrix does look to be stilbite, but mordenite is not something I've encountered much in the past, and pictures online show it to be more rough appearing. Does this specimen look authentic or does it tampered with? Appreciate any input!
